    You have a beautiful swing. Many golf instruction is geared for the younger player, and at 66, I cannot make many of the body torquing required. I am going to try this right knee move, hoping it will help me. I appreciate your time in releasing these videos.

    Having taken 20 years to figure out what Craig explained in one video All I can say Is Thank You! Back in the day I read every book and hit 1000's of range balls to get that feel. Now after a long layoff I stepped out back and was compressing balls over the barn roof within a few minutes. A picture worth a 1000 swings, I believe Bryon Nelson said he couldn't have a pocket watch on the right side because his downswing would wear his trousers out... now I see why, thanks again for the effort.

    Once again, great vid, Craig. Esp including more specific drills and feels. One thing that occurred to me watching the legs, knees and feet, is that I might actually have too wide of a stance (not a ton, but 1 or 2 inches may make it more difficult to get right knee and foot to move dtl-ish instead of toward ball). I just roughly measured my shoulders and hips widths and marked it on an alignment stick. Will experiment on range.

    Interesting video. At 2:20 you show a band pulling them to where they need to be, and in order to train this position most efficiently, pulling from the opposite direction will trigger them to reflexively get into that position. In essence, whatever they are doing wrong you try to make them do it worse to create a reactive training effect in the desired direction . This technique is called reflexive neuromuscular stabilization. It can speed up improvement by many times. Alan

    • @CraigHansonGolf

      I have done both. But the other direction doesn’t help them get into the finish position. And doesn’t supply the essential feels through the follow through.

I had a coach that had me hit so many punch shots, I forgot how to swing full lol. Played some good golf like that too. Had trouble with the driver for a bit but was line driving my 3 wood so didn’t really need it too much. Good times. Also, wouldn’t the band work better with u on the other side of the student because it’s forces him to work against the resistance vs u pulling him through? Never seen it done either way so I have no clue but looks like a great idea. Thanks for the great video.

      Thanks mate yeah still have the speed I’m in the gym 3 times week for the last 20 years and stretch a lot. I’m lucky to have lots of lag so that helps hit it a long way for a long time if you keep power in your arms.
      The drill is better from the front I like to move the player into into the correct position so they can really feel that. From the other side it just restricts all the movement forwards and leaves them in a awkward position.

The first time I heard of Mac O’Grady I had just started playing golf in the early 90’s and this old pro at the local driving range was giving me lessons and he pulled out a lamenated pic or poster of Mac’s swing sequence both left and right handed and said Mac could shoot within 3-4 strokes of his regular right handed swing playing lefty. Great video Craig, as usual. One thing I'm not catching - is the release active (using wrist muscles) or passive (loose)? The old pros like Henry Cotton favoured the former, but most coaches now argue the latter - that the hands release a reaction to the body. It looks like you're arguing for more active wrists??

    • @CraigHansonGolf
      @CraigHansonGolf  2 роки тому +1

      I think it’s pretty much all in the video. I don’t really know what else I can write about when comparing it to slow motion clips and examples.
      Club players have wooden stiff wrists.
      I measure hand and wrist extension and flexion numbers with bio mechanic sensors.
      In the the follow through …
      Club players
      20 degrees lead wrist extension
      Professional
      35-45 Lead wrist extension

      Thank you for replying, Craig I agree it's clear from your video that club players need much more lead wrist extension.
      What is unclear to me from the video is whether that should be achieved by keeping wrists very loose so they are moved into extension by forces (like centrifugal or clubhead weight or similar).
      Or whether the extension is achieved by engaging the wrist muscles forcibly at the right time.
      In other words, is the wrist extension something that I need to do deliberately (as you do when you show us in slow motion), or will happen automatically if I have loose wrists and a firm left side?
      Yes, I film my swing

I spent my first two months of golf on the range with our club pro drilling the correct positions and building good habits , the 18 handicaps want to outdrive Rory in 10mins with the how do I hit it miles question as if I can turn a 180yrd total distance 50yrd slice into a 340 power draw with a few tips 😂

    This is great advise! But I think there are causes of why some people get too wide on the downswing and can't get that compression. And the main culprit is people are swinging the clubhead and not half of the shaft. Meaning the weight they feel is too far out and chasing the face. They need to feel that the clubhead is 1/3 or 1/2 of the shaft. Once students feel that they are swinging down at P3 the weight should be half the shaft and not the clubhead. This actually fixes a lot of swing issues right away. Once the student understands this concept you can work on other things like grip, alignment, etc. Still love your teaching!

    • @CraigHansonGolf
      @CraigHansonGolf  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your opinion. Casting the club comes the inability to square the face. It’s a subconscious move.
      It’s lack of skill unfortunately. It’s a talent level. I have released countess videos and series in this topic over the years. Interesting is actually looking at club golfer’s with sensors on their wrists and comparing this to more skilled and advanced players.
      Are you a professional instructor?

      @@CraigHansonGolf I am not Craig. I'm a 3 hdc at the moment. 48 years old but played baseball for a lot of years and understanding on how to swing a bat and translating that to a golf swing. I've spent years analyzing swings of pros.
      I believe in snapshots of positions is a no go. The pros might look great and you want the students there but when you have them stop at lets say shaft lean then they lose fluidity. Or don't know how to release the clubhead after shaft lean. The right "position" or snapshot is is the byproduct of the correct swing. It so hard to get someone to do something like shaft lean when they think they need to throw the clubhead at the ball. But using or feeling the weight of the club on the downswing is not in the head. That even goes for other sports ie baseball hockey ect.
      And you are right Craig they still need some skill to be athletic enough to swing the club. I've helped a lot of my friends with that one swing thought. Then they can work on other things after that simple feel. Like directing the force in the right direction.
      Maybe you can test out my theory and make a video on it one day. Thanks for the reply. I still love your teaching and you have a great channel!

    Its easy to see shaft lean on vid but what does the ball flight tell you from say 12 deg against only 6 for example. More lean less loft so lower flight, more distance or more compression means more backspin so higher flight??

    • @CraigHansonGolf
      @CraigHansonGolf  2 роки тому

      More consistent contact ball contact. A penetrating ball flight. The ability to improve your distance control. It’s like when you have to hit it over a tree you have to to hit it high - ball left - get under it. These shots are often easier to hit it fat or thin . Mote risk.
      Shaft lean and being consistent with it. Delivering the same amount is one of the keys to repetition.

      @@CraigHansonGolf Thanks for response. Im hitting off a mat at the moment as our courses are flooded here in Sydney so compression is easy. I feel I have to hit thin on soft waterlogged ground or end up eating dirt...

    • @CraigHansonGolf

      @@midlifebiker7424 I work teach a lot in Europe. In March the growing is so wet. I literally have to hit down more on rigid ground more weight left bigger divots ball goes lower otherwise it’s to risky.
      But trying to pick it thin off that type of ground so so risky. Because the thin shot and fat shot are close to identical actually. The thin is almost a subconscious flinge to stop the fat.
      Golf is so hard 😊👍

    Great vid. I been trying this for years and it's just so hard to get the lower body & (weight) to move forward while keeping your head stationary or behind the ball at impact.

      Yes it is.. Separation!
      It’s great to be able to get it in there m. To be brutally honest it takes about 12 weeks if you work on it properly…
      The separation series on WorldClassGolf.com will help you tremendously.
      Invest in your golf 👍 get the right information apply it effectively - it’s nit all in UA-cam and there’s no short cuts.

    Enjoyed your video you covered lateral move through the ball 46 inches four - six right foot r roles in right need to ball before hands position of left wrist club face control etc. my question is what factor gives you compression of the ball alsoWhat about lag

    • @CraigHansonGolf
      @CraigHansonGolf  2 роки тому

      The Elbow into the ribs will improve your lag angles but it’s only one video…
      On WorldClassGolf.com there’s 1300 videos 75 separate Master Class Series
      One of them is the Lag and Compression series. It’s not all in UA-cam that’s for sure. UA-cam is a mess really no structure. Just video after video try this try try that.

    Havent watched video yet but Agree most golfers dont get to their left side and even fewer use their left side! This is caused by copying the tour pros forward ball position but lacking their athletic ability to get to it and through it! Maybe they should put the ball back and hit low running draws with whippy shafts like the golfers of old! I can see why u want them to set up more on their left side but is this a fault to cure a fault!
    If u have limited athletic/sporting skill and you deloft/foward lean at impact? you will probably hit low duffs.
    im an old 4 hcper not a teacher but most golfers put ball forward, Set up badly ie open and tilted left and then hit down/at the ball with their right side.
    I set up for a high shot(this is hard and unnatural to do for most golfers due to right eye dominance) its taken me 10 yrs to set up properly! my right side helps load my left side going back (feel) then the left side explodes past the ball But if youve been no good at sports and cant bounce (or be bothered to learn) a ball on a wedge forget it.

    How do you stop the chicken wing? I can’t seem to stop doing that, but it only happens with my driver and 4 iron. Not wimpy higher irons. I don’t feel like I’m doing it but when I film it, I can see that I am doing it. The tell tale sign are my hooks.

    This is all great and seen a lot of vids like this but you tube coaches never consider the average mid to high hcp player over 40 hrs old as well does not have the body of flexibility to do this. We can’t keep head behind ball whilst sliding then opening hips separately from upper body. This advice is not realistic for recreational golfers. Your example guy had a turn like a pro. Arm competed straight whole time. Us normal folk can’t do that. You tube coaches should try to do vids for average bodied occasions golfers for a change

    The way you start your downswing is amazing. Your hips are turning toward the target way before the club even starts to come down. That's a move that even the best can't master. 👍🏌️‍♂️
