I'm not a doctor, but the lady lying on the couch should definitely buy socks without elastic bands. She has water in her legs and the elastic bands are constricting her lymph nodes. She should also make an appointment with a vascular surgeon and have manual lymphatic drainage prescribed. There are 3 stages of lymphoedema and at first glance this is stage 1. The source would only be in German, but I think there will also be something like this in English. P.s.: I have the same problem, but it is more pronounced in my case.
