The entire "Satanist" album is Nergal's response to people's comments claiming that he would pray to God for help as he battled cancer, which he obviously did not do.
I agree. It’s one of my favorite metal songs ever, and one of my favorite videos, even when separated from the music. And I’m not even a huge Behemoth (redundant lol) fan, though I like them well enough.
I blasted "Christians to the Lions" before visiting the Colosseum in Rome last week. Being raised Christian, these kinds of things were difficult for me to get past originally as well. This song is beautiful to me, it makes me headbang and feel empowered but also emotional. Behemoth are the masters of this.
Dude that's perfect!! I blasted that when I went to pick up my kids from my in laws church. They were babies at the time, I told the in laws the kids would stop going once they got old enough to be indoctrinated. I let my kids decide if they want to go and I'll support them what ever they decide
The symbolism is interesting, the person in the beginning surrounded by the birds most likely is Prometheus from Greek mythology and I think the person in black with the raven who's missing an eye could possible be referencing Odin. The lyrics in the spoken part are mostly taken from the Lesser Key of Solomon.
Ah finally, some more Behemoth. Love it. This song especially, I'll have that stuck in my head for days again. Also, all their videos are pure art. Akephalos, shine through me! #OrdoBlasfemia Saw them live on the first tour after Nergal's leukaemia treatment. Had goosebumps the entire evening!
The first time i encounter this song & by the same time Behemoth; i just decided to put the whole album from start to finish. Like you said, the experience of listening only to the audio was🔥🔥. I couldn't believe how they came to make music that is so Dark & Beautiful, so Extreme & Relieving; all at the same time. And finally it happened last year, seeing one of the best Blackened Death Metal act live; was a total blast. With a history of tussles with religious authorities in Poland and an image that cannot help but engender either cynicism or mirth among mainstream critics. Adam "Nergal" Darski make is case for the artistic validity of their music. Nergal interview by the Guardian: “For me personally, I’ve always related to antiheroes," he says. "In most cases they were scapegoats, martyrs and negative archetypes, tools that were used in order to make other people into slaves. To me, Satan stands for everything that is dear to me. I’ve always been very fond of independence and autonomy and freethinking and freedom and intelligence. Satan has always been a very strong symbol of all those values, so for me it’s very natural to take his side.”
Thanks for watching my dudes. It may not be your pace but I also recommend Immortal - Withstand the Fall of Time and Dimmu Borgir - Kings of the Carnival Creation.
This is my favorite behemoth song, this whole album woth the grand orchestra and choir arrangements just sounds so huge and epic, esp for black metal and i love it
titular phrase in O Father, O Satan, O Sun lyrics meaning is directly lifted from the Bornless One ritual. The ritual is capable of conjuring both Good and Evil beings based on the rendition of verses. The substantial change Nergal has made is highlighting words that become the ultimate appeal to Satan, the supreme being that presides over all things in the universe. His worshippers become the children of Satan.
The thing you have to remember about Behemoth above all else is that they are Polish. Before the Russian/German occupation of the country the prime identifier of the country was that they were the last catholic bastion between protestantism and orthodoxy(/communism as of the mid 20th century). Poland is as catholic as Italy. When it gained it's independence after the fall of the Berlin wall, even though the Polish trade unions were some of the most independent minded and equalistic of those in the warsaw pact, shock theory still had it's effects, and they essentially collapsed in the face of all those who could monopolise and make profit in the shortest amount of time. In terms if music though, this did not quite happen the same way. Nergal was lucky enough to get a following during the end of the Norwegian 2nd wave, and be musically talented (and not overly edgy) enough to lauch a career from there.. I will add, I am Bri'ish, I have never been to the mainland and all I know is from being chronically online. I welcome corrections
I fucken love behemoth so much they are out there nergal is a genius and he is super hilarious. Their song blow your trumpets gabriel is my all time favourite it is a classic beautiful black metal track and you should definitely checknitnout one day :) then this one then bartzebel .
Nergal is a pure genius. He and Behemoth together is everything the Satanic Panic wanted metal to be. This song in particular, from start to finish, is literally a prayer to Satan.
This song is about embracing an inner strength and power despite the chaos and difficulties of life. In this song, Behemoth is calling upon O Father, O Satan, and O Sun to bring down the sun, extinguish all the stars, and liberate them from guilt. They ask for these divine powers to hear them and make all spirits subject to them, so that every spell and scourge of god will be obedient. The song is also about being able to remain in splendor and find peace in one's self despite being “most complete and yet so undone”. In this song, Behemoth speaks of being able to turn to the divine and find strength, no matter how difficult the journey is. Love the reaction guys. Keep going
you smokey and six crack me up towards the end😂 The Satanist, title track is prety dope, fyi but yea, Cradle of Fulth and Behemoth share black metal ancestory, but Behemoth are proper satanists!
Definitely the best Black/Death Metal band out there…..you HAVE to see em live!! I seen em with Morbid Angel & Krisiun….THAT was a show….try “Conquer All”, “As Above, So Below”, “Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel” or “At The Left Hand Ov God”….all kikass….🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
That emblem at the end of the video says metal blade not metal black👍 Behemoth are a personal favourite of mine. Fantastic song, video and great reaction guys 🤘
@KeeperOfTheSlunk yeah Batushka split and have a legal battle over the name, with the imposter releasing crap under the Batushka name but the real mastermind also releasing new stuff that's as good as the old.
Lucifer means the bright one, and he was associated with light, and the sun. Also, you should check out The Cure's song A Forest, and then Behemoth's cover of it.

Sad that i'm 4 days late on this. Such an incredible song on such an incredible album. the whole The Satanist album is a complete gem. I was relived to see this. Between my ride to work today and my ride home from work, i've listened to this song 4 times. 5 now thati just got home from work and saw this. Please do more Behemoth.
Behemoth's videos are always nightmarish, and almost every frame could make for an awesome painting lol And yeah, that's what Kiss kinda looks like it should sound like, but even more so Ghost Meanwhile, they're both lighter than Babymetal nowadays
I do admire the visual Artistry and effort they put into what they do. The concerts are pasted very well and really have a vibe, I would say they have a truly commercial understanding of the impact that dark visuals can create. I'm not entirely convinced they've ever been particularly satanic in their own lives, I do prefer their music from maybe 5 or 6 years ago over the slowed-down tempos they are utilizing these days. Still, Behemoth are an excellent evening out, should they be coming to your area on tour.
Hey guys, I enjoyed your reaction at the end lol. There are a couple suggestions I have; the first one is Spiritus Sancti by Rotting Christ. This song as far as I know is not on an album but a split with Varathon I think I spelled that right. The next is Rebellion within the Young Nation by Appalachian Winter off their 2013 album Ghosts if the Mountains. I will tell you this, the intro of the ladder after 10 years still sends chills down my spine and I hope you experience that. Be safe my friends
I remember the first time I listen this song. To put in context, they have release two songs before the album, first Blow your trumpets Gabriel, a killer song. And then, probably misse noir, not sure. But I remember thinking "shit... The album promisse to be great" when the album was released I listen to it imediatly, and it just blow my mind, what a fucking album. And i remember perfectly thinking before the last song "ok... Last song. The album is amazing, if this guys put the fucking best song at the end, I don't know how the fuck they going to make a closer to beat all the other songs. They fail miserably, or it's going to be a masterpiece of a song". I don't expected to punch me immediately as it did. Not only they made the best song of the album, they made one of the best songs of all time. Masterpiece!! Just a fucking classic. Edit: the video come out years after the song. Cool video, but by the time I have already listen to the song thousands of times, it didn't do much for me. I almost fell it's not the music video of the song. It's almost like a fanvideo, but better, official and by the band.
Hi guys, I just love how you dive into these tunes heads first without knowing what's gonna happen (mostly) and your thoughts on them are always fun to watch. I just have a few request on tunes i'd like you to "explore". Sisters of Mercy - Temple of Love (feat. Ofra Haza) The Clash - Guns of Brixton Masters of Reality - John Brown April Wine - Silver Dollar and last but not least.. The Bevis Frond - Superseeded (Live at Rockpalast 2004) Ps. They are so amazing live, one of the best shows I've seen besides Wardruna. They are one of the few bands that are actually satanic, its not just a show. Poland still has blasphemy laws and they've gotten in trouble so many times since that's their home country
The video has so much symbolism that it is meaningless to even try to break it all down here. But your comment in start about river of Styx is good start... ;) PS. There's nothing wrong with your shirts. After all, Black Metal artists took heavy influences from KISS in to their corpse paints in the early days
I'm not much of a rap music fan. Not really my cup of coffee. If you want to get really nerdy or specific, you'd describe Behemoth as a Blackened Death Metal band. But calling it either Death Metal or Black Metal works fine too, since they've got elements of both. They started out as a Black Metal band, but later on started using more Death Metal elements. Just some cool info I felt like sharing. I personally really this kind of dark, occult or horror visuals and such. For some reason I'm just drawn to it.
If you wanna go down the black metal trail you gotta listen to Darkthrone and Ill even give you a catchy song to start with like Cult of Goliath . Its got a more crusty punk sound with gnarly lyrics .

If you go back to their Demigod album (2004), the track "Slaves Shall Serve" is an ASSAULT on the drums!! 🤘
