    This is such a great review! Showing what all the pick up option Sound like on both clean and overdriven. Not a bunch of dramatic talking, just straight to the sound of the guitar and kudos to the lettering on the video telling you which position the switch is on.

    Great demo! I have a hard time getting past my cosmetic bias for maple on Fenders, but I think the rosewood sounds a little better to my ears.

    I re-visited this video. ( I now have the Dark Knight but with maple neck. ) To my ears, there’s little difference in the middle and bridge positions, but the neck pickup sounds slightly brighter & snappier in the video.

    That was interesting! I wouldn't have guessed, but the rosewood fingerboard strat sounds fuller and more earthy while the maple is a little brighter and more twangy. Don't think it's an optical illusion based on colors.

    I'm new to the Strat game. When playing clean or by itself, the Rosewood seemed to sound a little fuller to me which I enjoyed. When you got towards the end playing in the mix, the Maple seemed to cut through much better though. Beautiful playing man!

      I noticed that too... It's probably due to the kind of Pickups on those am pro II models. I have the feeling the maples sound better with those Pickups, not True with other models like ultra series, am standard or others, usually i like it better with rosewood.

      Hey! Year on down the road. Thanks for that succinct-but-enlightening description of the rosewood vs maple characteristics. I’m having a tough time deciding for my first ever Strat. However, as I’ve suggested to others who are torn between two colors, I could get one neck with 3 single coils and the other with an HSS setup, which seems wise and very reasonable to me.

    • @GothiicAngels
      @GothiicAngels 11 місяців тому

      @@strummercash5601 It would depend on what sound you want. I already have a Gibson Les Paul so I have the Humbuckers for any harsher sounds, so I opted for the 3 single coils

  • @maximthefox

    The maple is just that little bit grittier, a fair bit brighter, it has more aggression and snarl, clearer sound as well imo. The rosewood is a bit softer, smooth, darker in tone. I think it's clear I'm a fan of maple but both have their qualities.

    Dispels the myth there is no difference tonally between rosewood and maple. ;)

    • @try2bcool
      @try2bcool 3 роки тому

      Does it really, though? I think what may be affecting it is more likely the difference in construction and finish. The maple is a single piece of wood, the rosewood is a laminate on a thinner piece of maple, making the layer of glue that holds them together affect the tone probably more than the difference in wood used. There is absolutely no way the vibration of the strings makes it through that layer of glue unaffected, it has to be introducing some degree of dampening. The only way you could possibly compare the tonal differences of the necks is if they were constructed in exactly the same way, meaning the maple neck would need to be thinner and have a separate maple fretboard glued to it. I'll bet that would darken down the sound and shrink the tonal difference to being near imperceptible between the two.

      I have the Dark Night Strat with Rosewood. Love it. Never played anything more expensive so I can't give you a tonal comparison other than it sounds so much richer and fuller than my Player. Feels better in the hands too. Play them both and then decide if the $500 is worth it. I'm happy with the extra I spent for the AP II.

    After more than 2 years of abstinence, I went to the Music Station again and played 3 Fender American Professional II Strats, and again I noticed that the woods had little vibrancy, the maple necks were not very dense and responsive, there was little twang, little crunch , wiry-glassy, few overtones, sustain, attack, everything you associate with Fender guitars, everything is less than on my ESP 400 Series Strats and less than on my BLADE Texas models. This can be tested objectively and I can only say that I am extremely disappointed with this price-performance ratio. No, I can no longer objectively understand this adulation regarding Fender Strats. My first Stratocaster was a Fender American Standard Stratocaster and that was my worst guitar of all, a Fender Mexico Standard followed after that, but after I played the ESPs and the BLADEs everything was clear to me, and that proves itself again, every time, when I compare, the same result always comes out - what else can I say, it is true! The ESP-400-Series Strats and the BLADEs have objectively, noticeably and audibly better tonewood, the BLADEs even have a flattened neck-body-joint and covered fret slots and therefore much better playability!!! So, I'm done with Fender, I'm playing something clever, and at a much cheaper price. I don't want to talk anyone out of their love of Fender, I have nothing against you buying the (usually) worse guitars for a far too exorbitant price, you're welcome to do that. Then there will be more BLADEs for me, very simple! Thanks for listening!
