It is remarkable how many extremely talented violinists come out of the Netherlands. Off the top of my head I can name, besides of course Janine Jansen (who recorded Prokofiev's second violin concerto), Liza Ferschtman, Frederieke Saeijs, Rosanne Philippens, Noa Wildschut, and, of course Simone Lamsma, the soloist in this concert. All these ladies are not just pretty good, they are all outstanding and each of them would be world famous if they were the only one. The Dutch can be proud of this rare accomplishment (or should I say phenomenon?), especially considering the small size of the country. Simone does an outstanding job here, as does the orchestra under the baton of its new (US) conductor, Karina Cannelakis. Notice how well she accompanies the soloist. And by the way, what an excellent recording and camera work. A special shout out to the director of photography!

I can nothing but agree. But I just wonder, where are all male violinists? Is it the market that prefers female violinists?

Klare und saubere Aufführung dieses technisch anspruchsvollen Konzerts mit seidigem Ton der genialen Solovioline und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen anderer Instrumente. Die intelligente Dirigentin leitet das ausgezeichnete Orchester im gut analysierten Tempo und mit sorgfältig kontrollierter Dynamik. Einfach wunderschön!
How shall a dirigent be? You write so often about "Der intelligente Dirigent, oder die intelligente Dirigentin". I myself believe all dirigents are intelligent and intellectuals, but for all that it differs in how they can handle an orchestra.
