My parents we're both born in 1930 in Northeast Texas. Life on cotton farm with 18 mouths to feed (my dad's fam) life is already hard enough. The market crash and the Dust Bowl, with the life we all live today, we could not come close to even imagining how hard life was. My dad's family owned their land, which elevated them to just above snail slime. My mother's family were sharecroppers. They rented land to grow cotton. Her family was so poor they couldn't afford dirt, literally.
But this environment produce two of the most wonderful people I had ever met and loved in my life. There wasn't anything my dad couldn't do or build. He made sure before he passed that my mom was financially secure.... That drove him, making sure her and at the time me we're taking care of if he died.
I heard many tales, not just from them, heard it from the Grannies and my Aunts who all lived thru that horrible time.
Bless America, every adversity that our country hits, we face it, hit right back, learn and come back stronger and more united

Crops began to fail with the onset of drought in 1931, exposing the bare, over-plowed farmland. Without deep-rooted prairie grasses to hold the soil in place, it began to blow away. Eroding soil led to massive dust storms and economic devastation-especially in the Southern Plains.

My paternal grandparents moved from Texas to California during the Dust Bowl. They had a baby and a young toddler (my uncle and dad). They lived the story of The Grapes of Wrath, working as itinerate farm workers. They got paid in whatever they were picking. If it was peaches, almonds, tomatoes, green beans, that was their pay and what they ate and fed their babies. They lived in their car, with the babies sleeping inside the car and mom and dad sleeping on the ground under a makeshift tent made of a blanket attached to the trunk lid, a couple of poles and twine to hold it all together. They worked and lived like that until the end of the Depression, when my grandpa finally found a job that could support the family.

Saying the dustbowl was caused, purely by a drought is a great misunderstanding. An almost equal factor would be farming practices, where they fully stripped the land, getting rid of the plants that would hold the dirt in place allow allowing it to be picked up by the wind as it dried out due to conditions of the drought.

Blake Shelton, was the first country artist to win album of the year and best male artist during the regular country music awards. He made a huge breakthrough in the country industry. He changed it all! He wanted to sing rock so bad and be one of those hair bands in the 80’s and 90’s and he said it didn’t sound right cause of his accent so he stuck to his roots. In turn he really took country music to a whole other level. U have rock, country, blues, soul and deep country all in one. U gotta go through his songs u will luv it. I’m an eclectic I luv it all!!! Literally all!

When he's home and not touring he actually works his own land He takes care of his own house course he has hands helping but he is a farmer first not a lot of these country singers are but there are some Luke Bryan farmed peanuts like some of these guys really know what this work is about They have every right in the world to sing about him and because they're '90s country singers some country purest think that they're not qualified but they are. This man especially he builds his own reservoirs he plows his own fields He built a chapel for his fiance Gwen Stefani so they could get married He is a no joke person and he can sing and he's hot af

BP, my understanding is that for years mid-western farmers planted the same crop(s) in the same fields. Because of this, the land was depleted and dried out and then the drought came. The land was so dry that it just blew away, covering everything. At this time many people from the Plains moved West to California. After the great Dust Bowl, farmers learned to rotate crops so the land wasn't depleted and learned to plant tree blinds to help keep the land in place. We still have droughts today, but nothing like what happened in the 30s.

@@patriciakeith6755 also Oklahoma, one of the most ravaged by the Dust Bowl, built a fair number of dams on rivers and streams and created a fair number of lakes. Created a tourist indestry for camping and fishing, look at Grand Lake of The Cherokees, Lake Tenkiller, or Lake Eufaula to name a few

That was indeed the second part of the problem. The initial problem was the destruction of the hardy prairie grasses that kept the ground in place. Even in cattle grazing land they tried to replace this grass and other stuff did not survive as well.

It was called the dust bowl. It was caused by overworking the land. It was a combination of natural drought an improper farming that caused wind erosion to remove the topsoil.

I've read many a book about the Dust Bowl in the 1930's.. also during the Great Depression.. our country was in serious trouble at the time. Shows how much as American's we will survive.

I hear ya, in regards to generalizations made about people. And yes, he and Adam Levine are the ones who started The Voice and he was a Coach for 20 seasons. He actually has a ranch and farm and works it himself.
Another who was The Voice for several years and was the very first winner of American Idol 22 years ago is Kelly Clarkson. One of my favorite female singers. She's extremely versatile. Has her own show and does a Kellyoke segment every day covering songs of other artists, and her latest album Chemistry (came out a year ago) is outstanding. She and Blake Shelton have been friends for about 2 decades. I'd love for you to cover her.

For over 20 seasons, he may have even been one of the original coaches. The Voice is where the met and eventually married Gwen Stephanie. Gwen has been a coach 8 times before and is again a coach, this year. She took a break last year. This year is Queen of Country ~ Reba McEntire, Gwen Stephanie (Shelton), Snoop Dogg, and Michael Buble'.
