Gandalf used the power of his ring which was bonded with the one ring. When Gollum assailed Frodo as they crept up Mount Doom and Frodo was moved to command him as " a figure robed in white, but at its breast it held a wheel of fire. Out of the fire there spoke a commanding voice. "Begone, and trouble me no more! If you touch me ever again, you shall be cast yourself into the Fire of Doom." The rings are not weapons. They are used to preserve and conceal. The ring helped maintain the Grey Havens concealed from Sauron's sight. Just like Rivendell and Loth'lorien.

The idea that Gandalf was the most afraid to face off with Sauron yet people even then had full confidence in him and would give him something so powerful to do his job 😢
elrond didn't have his ring from the start, it was first send to the high king of the Noldor, Gil-galad, who along with Elendil aranged the last allegiance but a while before the war, Gil-galad gave his ring to his trusted advisor, Elrond Halfelven
I thought this was a pretty obvious question, but then I realized I have been watching LOTR youtubers for years, read the books, and listen to audiobooks of lotr and silmarillion pretty much every night when I go to bed 😂 I don't remember if there is a way of knowing this, only by only watching the movies. The closest would be his monologue when facing the balrog, but then you would have to know that the ring is a ring "of fire" in order to connect the dots.
Yeah - really not much of a way to know just by watching the films. Though if you look closely, G is wearing a ring at the Grey Havens ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Interesting data: I ran a poll on my channel to see how many LOTR fans read the books: * 36% -- movies only * 23% -- movies + main books * 12% -- movies + books + the Sims * 29% -- all the texts, Unfinished tales, etc So basically, only 41% have read the Sims. The majority of folks have never heard of the Valar, or Morgoth, or Beren and Luthien, or really know much of anything about the overall world. Kinda interesting.
Celebrimbor Gil-Galad and Cirdan were the original 3 bearers. Celebrimbor gave his ring to Galadriel when she left Eregion, Gil-Galad gave his to Elrond before battling Sauron and Cirdan gave his to Gandalf upon his arrival in Middle-Earth circa TA 1000.
So that's why on confroting the Balrog, Gandalf says, "I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udûn"
Awwwww yeah!!! G is epic. I made a whole video about how it helped G vs the Balrog called "Gandalf's secret weapon". It's like +9 against Balrogs or something!
That would be Gandalf, as anyone knows who has either read the book, which has been around since the 1950's, or heard the excellent radio adaptation done in 1981.
True, definitely Gandalf. Though only about 60% of the people on my channel have read the books \(〇_o)/ But hopefully we get them excited and they give it a try! 😅
Interesting fact: According to Silmarilion Kirdan has best ability to see future around elfkins, so powerful that he created all ships that sails to Valinor and created right amount of them. So, he doesn't suddenly give ring to Gandalf, he knew that Gandalf will need it. Some can say that he knew end of story from the beginning. Also he is eldest elf, so old that he has a beard.
Cirdan is probably my favorite under rated elf. He's arguably the oldest, he's definitely the oldest in Middle Earth. It's likely he was born during the elves original migration over middle Earth to Valinor in the first age. He always seemed to make the right decision. Never sticking his neck out too far but still being involved at least indirectly with the majority of events in middle Earth. He sent a messenger to the council in Rivendell during the Lord of the Rings and is present when Frodo and the others set off for Valinor.
Yeah you are totally on the right track. Here is the most accepted ownership (or at least my read of it): * Celebrimbor made the rings, and gave them to Gil-Galad - the High King of the Elves. * Gil-Galad had a premonition that he might fall in the War of the Last Alliance, so just before the battles he gave them to Galadriel, Elrond, and Cirdan the Shipwright. * About a 1000 years later, Cirdan gave his to Gandalf. There you go. What do you think?
“Take now this Ring,' he said; 'for thy labours and thy cares will be heavy, but in all it will support thee and defend thee from weariness. For this is the Ring of Fire, and herewith, maybe, thou shalt rekindle hearts to the valour of old in a world that grows chill.”
Gandalf was given the ring of fire (Varya) by one of the oldest remaining elves from the first clans to wake beneath the stars before the sun and moon ever existed; at the Cuiviènen river named Círdan. Its best attribute was it raises the spirits of those who wear it. Bolstering internal strength and so forth. He knew it would aid Gandalf in his quest from the Valar and Eru Îlluvatar (the one AllFather) themselves to bolster the spirits of the free peoples of middle earth and to sow seeds of hope within the hearts of Men, Elves and Dwarves alike.
There is not true connection between Narya and Gandalf's fireworks. Yes, Narya is the "Ring of Fire" but it was said to ignite hope and inspire. Tolkien didn't write if the ring actually gave pyromantic or pyroclastic abilities. The only mention to "fire" and Gandalf was when he references the Flame Imperishable aka the "Secret Fire" and the "Flame of Anor". "Anor" being the elven word for "Sun", which could be a reference to the last vestiges of light from the tree Laurelin, which was fashioned and set into the sky with the mia Arien, after Melkor and Ungoliant set about the ruin of the two trees and the darkening of Arda.
Mech, thanks for the comment. Well said. Hope and Inspire was definitely the main power of the ring. Yep! I kinda disagree with you about the fireworks there, IMHO. Just because Tolkien never said it gave people more skill with fire, doesn't mean it didn't. He simply did not address it. Elrond's ring surely gave him power of water, even though it's not stated, so it's totally possible, right? Gandalf almost always uses fire to do his stuff as the Grey (graduates to light as the White). Colorful fiery pinecones in the Hobbit, fiery branches against the wolves in Fellowship, talks about fire with the Balrog, flames against the Nazgul when he was at Weathertop, etc. Even lights a campfire later and says everyone would know he was there because of it... fire is his calling card! So I think it's a reasonable assumption he gets his "fire" skills from his "fire" ring. It's just a theory, of course, as there is really no official canon of anything with Tolkien, but I think it's super strong. What do you think?
I agree.. I am really enjoying season 2 of RoP. I think it's amazing. But then again... I really liked the first season too so no surprise I guess 😅 Honestly, I like most Tolkien stuff: RoP, the movies, the old 80s cartoons, the video games are great, the legos are great, the lego video games are super great. I guess I like most all of it. EXCEPT FOR THAT BILBO BAGGINS SONG BY MR SPOCK!! WE WILL NEVER SPEAK OF IT AGAIN!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
A lot of comments that Gandalf feared Sauron. He didn't fear Sauron on his own account, what he feared was that he lacked the strength to combat him and would therefore let down those who put their trust in him.
u got it WRONg - the Third ring was in the hands of the great Samwise Gamgee. there is a reason why he can talk to snakes and had amazing strength and magical powers. why ya think Gandalf send him to mordor. No one could outfight Sam on a 1-1. even Sauron did not want any smoke. sorry i'm High AF RN. oh and also he was the only fat Hobbit in middle earth
Believe what you want to @JoseJavyFerrer, but I'm 100% positive Sam doesn't have or need a Ring. Samwise Gamgee was a terminator machine covered in cute hobbit skin tissue sent back from the future specifically to destroy Sauron and he can't be bargained with. He can't be reasoned with. He doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And he absolutely will not stop... ever... until Sauron is dead! (Dum-dum, dum-dum, da dum)
The ring of fire give the ability to give courage to the men, thats why when everyone is running from the ringwraith and their black magic breath, gandalf is able to bring their mind back and fight again(or when denethor made them run away)
Believe it or not, theoretically the Istari doesn’t need the ring. They are already powerful themselves. The thing is, there is a heavenly restriction that forbade them to use their full power. With the help of the rings, they can somewhat use a lil bit of it.
100%!! Pretentious knife ears 🙄. Tells everyone to fight Sauron and go to Mordor.... while Elrond and his team of elven super heroes apparently do nothing. 🤦
There is also second reason to that - rings give the bearer extreme bravery without clouding judgment. Accually Gandalf didn't want to participate in the mission because he was so terrified of confronting Sauron. Ironically he was the only one not brave (or rather proud) enough to face Dark Lord and because of that he was able to look for the potential in the weakest and ultimatelly was the only wizzard who succeded in war against Sauron.
the ring of fire has both to do with actual fire and "hearts burst into fire". the meaning of it, reignite the fire within hearts, sogandalf did use it on people around him. no wonder this helped his mission.
It was the Golden King Gilgalad who wore the third ring as the Elven rings went to those of the Eldar and Noldor but then Gilgalad went missing after the Battle of the Last Alliance
Great comment! 😎 But not sure I would describe Gilgalad as "went missing". More like: fought in a 2v1 battle with Sauron who grabbed him by the neck with his lava fire hands and totally burned him alive while Elendil got in a shot with his sword and killed Sauron. 🤣
Well luckily I've read the books twice now. Played the shadow of mordor games. Watched the movies on theatrical release and directors cut. Watched the behind the scenes, learned verrrrry little of Tolkien himself but i do know, elvish is accepted as an actual real language because of him, and you can get a college degree in lord of the rings.
I do have a Tolkien Question! Aule crafted the dwarves and Ilùvatar declared there would be strife between the evles and dwarves because of Aule's impatience. *But* it seems the animosity only arose after the fall of King Eru Thingol and the stealing of the Necklace(I don't remember it's name...). Do you think that if this event had never occored the dwarves and elves could've gotten along, as Gimli and Legolas seemed to, or are they fated to clash?
There was already friction between the elves and dwarves. Thingol made peace with the elves of Nargothrond, but there was a lot of tension and mistrust in Ossiriand, and pretty much everywhere else. I forget where it was mentioned, but they weren't called "petty" because they were lesser, but because they were seen/treated as lesser.
I'm not sure how the leveling up system works exactly... M.E. stats are about as vague and unknowable as Elden Ring. ¯\(◉◡◔)/¯ But can you imagine a super charismatic Gandalf? With just a smile and a wink he could send hundreds of innocent Hobbits off on adventures where 90% of them would surely immediately die.
Gotta mix it up 😎 Honestly, everytime I play that Inception sound and show over-dramatic Halbrand... I just laugh for 10 minutes. Am I the only one that finds that hilarious? 🤣🤣🤣
@@thegreyhavens167nah I also find it hilarious tho because we usually saw sauron as armored badass before the show is released and now the show gave him a normal human form lol
Nice answer! For some reason I can't fully explain, I really love the character of Cirdan. I feel like he plays a bigger role in things than we realize. I wish there was more lore on his story. He is kinda Epic!!! (also, Elf with beard... )
Question : if putting on the rings makes the bearers of the Elven rings and their thoughts visible to Sauron, how and why have they been carrying theirs then for all those years? I mean, Gandalf must have been wearing his all the time, Frodo saw Nenya on Galadriel's hand and bo idea about Elrond, but... What did I miss out on? I must've missed something 🙈
Great question. Here is my read of it: The Ring puts Sauron's mind in direct contact with the other Ring bearer's minds. Then he can totally dominate them at a fundamental level. But since Sauron lost his Ring, he doesn't have this ability. He's not in contact with them. That's what makes it so gutsy to send Frodo to Mordor. If he is caught, Elrond, Glady, and Gandalf will lose their identity and be instantly enslaved. That's a lot for them to risk!
And technically aside from the remaining elves that would become forest spirits and Legolas who would leave later with Gimli. Cirdan was the last Elf left in middle earth period as his oath is to never leave until all elves who wanted to leave for Valinor did
It was the second incident that made Saruman jealous. First Gandalf, Olorin was offered a place in Istari but he had a special place among them. Second, Cirdan gave the ring to Gandalf not Saruman. Lastly Galadriel wanted Gandalf to be the leader of council. Saruman was always a little sinister and power hungry. He was a college of Sauron after all😂 He and Sauron served the same Vala, Aulë.
Why didn't Saruman did or didn't know this, ring lore was his obsession. Why didn't he take the even this lesser ring when he captured Gandalf the grey? Did Gandalf the white even wear Narya the Elvin ring of fire? Did he even need too, by then? The sword Glamdring is not mentioned again wheeled by Gandalf the white, how about this ring too? Well? Saruman didn't know what happened to the balrog fight outcome, so the ring could be lying at the foot of the peak of Zirakzigil. So no minions are sent to pick it up then. At first Saruman is unaware of Gandalf's return. Too many interesting questions from me. Hope you can help.
@vincenthickey8622, yeah, I love it! Great questions! I will add them to the list. One that's easy to answer: when Gandalf died fighting the Balrog his body just laid there in the snow. Several days later the gods (or Eru) sent him back -- into the SAME BODY. Yep, right there in the snow, where he was found by the eagles. So he still had the ring on his finger, but lost most of his gear (clothers, staff, etc) fighting the Balrog and Galadriel had to make him new stuff. So the answer is YES: G the White was still wearing Narya. Not sure about Glamdring.... need to read up on that. thx! Why didn't Saruman know about Narya? The answer is the 3 Elven Rings were top secret and no one was allowed to discuss it. Elrond says so during the council. And you cant see them. The only people that knew were Cirdan (who gave it to him) and Elrond & Galadriel (they had rings to they could see it, maybe communicate telepathically, etc). Took over a thousand years for Saruman to find out, and when he did.... he went NUTS! Sorry so long... got excited I guess. :) Have a great Sunday!

@@thegreyhavens167You do not Get Invited to an Unexpected Party. Either, you are inviting yourself, or you are the host.
The moment he spawned in the game he was promoted bro 😅
Gandalf used the power of his ring which was bonded with the one ring. When Gollum assailed Frodo as they crept up Mount Doom and Frodo was moved to command him as " a figure robed in white, but at its breast it held a wheel of fire. Out of the fire there spoke a commanding voice.
"Begone, and trouble me no more! If you touch me ever again, you shall be cast yourself into the Fire of Doom." This was the power of Gandalf's ring binding the One ring with an oath that sealed its doom. (Gandalf was before the Black Gates then with the host of the men of the West, concentrating on the ringbearer, inspiring him to complete his quest)
@martineldritch, whoah, that just blew my mind!!!! For some reason I never considered that might be a vision of Gandalf?? I always pictured it as Frodo, or what he was becoming. I love it. I gotta give that one since thought! 🤔
@@thegreyhavens167 Thanks, not Gandalf per se but Frodo bearing/channeling the power of Gandalf and Narya the ring of fire. Just an idea you can consider. It bubbled up in my mind once when reading the book for the 5th or 6th time. Blew my mind too when I realized Tolkien's genius there (And Gandalf can never be taken for some conjuror of cheap tricks !)
Anyway, think about it, maybe you could do a video on that some time, you'd probably be the first and it'd be a lot of fun to watch.
Yeah I love that idea. I gotta re-read that section!! thx
I love lord of the ringsyou just gave me goosebumps
That's why I love they introduced the moths around him in the movies.
Agreed. I LOVE how the moth's work in the films. It's so simple, yet so intelligent. It requires no speeches, no explaining, no dialog... it's just super-efficient story telling. And when the moth returns at the end of ROTK.... EPIC! We know just what it means. Such a smart move by the director!
I always read that part as Cirdan just being like yo Gandalf can you take this ring plz? You'll get more use out of it then me. I mostly just chill here til the last elf leaves . I don't really go with that craziness farther east and I'm pretty sure they only gave me this ring cause I'm the oldest elf in middle earth and never got to see these 2 shiny trees they won't shut up about so please take it.
🤣🤣🤣 That's awesome! Best comment I have read today!
One note, while I think your 100% right, I would say that Cirdan used to be more active. He and his army participated in the war of the last alliance and he was there beside Elrond when the ring was cut from Sauron.
The rings are not weapons. They are used to preserve and conceal. The ring helped maintain the Grey Havens concealed from Sauron's sight. Just like Rivendell and Loth'lorien.
@@jzayas5698 yes but wasn't that ring (the red one) the one with the power to inspire others? They all had the power to conceal/preserve but I think Gandalf still got more use out it than Cirdan as he was more traveled and spoke to people other than mostly just elves.
You know normally it's the Celestial beings giving the mortal races gifts in their quests, not every day a mortal hands a Celestial a gift for a quest.
Wow... that's super insightful. Thanks for sharing that. I have never looked at it that way before but your totally right! It's a standard trope in mythology for a "god" to give the hero a magical item (King Arthur's Excalibur, Bombadil and the Barrow Blades, Samurai Jack's super cool katana). I really can't think of any other example of the other way around.
Genius Insight!!!!
Elves aren’t mortal?
@@mikeljackson9192 In LotR the Elves are immortal (in the sense they don't age or die of age or sickness) and perfect beings, they CAN die if they are killed. But this immortality only applies to the Elves who came from across the sea, those who were born in Middle Earth aren't as connected to the light of their motherland and can age and get sick.
But the Five Wizards are the equivalent of Seraphim in human form who came from Heaven to fight the Balrogs.
I never read the books 'i know i know' but when i was younger i always thought gandalf died then just showed up with sauromons job title like 'Oh you didnt know, you fired me then corporate gave me your position'

I never thought of the Ring of Fire - fireworks connection !!
Totally true! Would love to know more about the relationship between Gilgalad and Elrond...
Though if you look closely, G is wearing a ring at the Grey Havens ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Interesting data: I ran a poll on my channel to see how many LOTR fans read the books:
* 36% -- movies only
* 23% -- movies + main books
* 12% -- movies + books + the Sims
* 29% -- all the texts, Unfinished tales, etc
So basically, only 41% have read the Sims. The majority of folks have never heard of the Valar, or Morgoth, or Beren and Luthien, or really know much of anything about the overall world. Kinda interesting.
“I am a member of the secret fire, wielder of the flame of arnor. Dark fire will not avail you! Flame of udin! “
servant, not member
Cirdan the shipwright. He gives Gandalf the elven ring of fire, to aid him in his journey.
Gandalf's magic was already strongest in the use of fire and inspiration. Even without the ring his fireworks would have been spectacular
Cirdan is the secret GOAT of Middle Earth. All the wisdom and power, none of the clout.
"I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the Flame of Anor, darkfire will not avail you, flame of Udun!"

At least he had some fun using the ring for fireworks silliness. 🎇
Go back to the Shadow!
Your videos are so funny! My sister and I finished watching all of the Hobbit and Lord of The Rings movies.

Best comment of the day 🤣🤣🤣
That would be Gandalf, as anyone knows who has either read the book, which has been around since the 1950's, or heard the excellent radio adaptation done in 1981.
Oh that's why in the YOU SHALL NOT PASS scene, he says "I am the servant if the secret fire"
I absolutely loved you channel and the old school video game noises are boss mate
Aw yeah! \(〇◡o)/ Thanks for the compliments, I really appreciate it. Glad you liked it!
Such an awesome info and format. Thnx

But that is a banger of a tune!!!! Epic song.
I think it was given to celebrimbor then after sauron killed him , gandalf took it , the ring with red thingie
Yeah you are totally on the right track. Here is the most accepted ownership (or at least my read of it):
* Celebrimbor made the rings, and gave them to Gil-Galad - the High King of the Elves.
* Gil-Galad had a premonition that he might fall in the War of the Last Alliance, so just before the battles he gave them to Galadriel, Elrond, and Cirdan the Shipwright.
* About a 1000 years later, Cirdan gave his to Gandalf.

“Take now this Ring,' he said; 'for thy labours and thy cares will be heavy, but in all it will support thee and defend thee from weariness. For this is the Ring of Fire, and herewith, maybe, thou shalt rekindle hearts to the valour of old in a world that grows chill.”
Saruman doesn't want much, just one ring😢
🤣🤣🤣
Gandalf was given the ring of fire (Varya) by one of the oldest remaining elves from the first clans to wake beneath the stars before the sun and moon ever existed; at the Cuiviènen river named Círdan. Its best attribute was it raises the spirits of those who wear it. Bolstering internal strength and so forth. He knew it would aid Gandalf in his quest from the Valar and Eru Îlluvatar (the one AllFather) themselves to bolster the spirits of the free peoples of middle earth and to sow seeds of hope within the hearts of Men, Elves and Dwarves alike.
lol sauraman was so butthurt he tried to make his own ring 😂
@@thegreyhavens167i think these powers over fire are already natively of gandalf, the ring just inhances them, thats just my theory though.

Moral of our story, don't trust anyone when they say they don't know where the lost rings are
A lot of comments that Gandalf feared Sauron. He didn't fear Sauron on his own account, what he feared was that he lacked the strength to combat him and would therefore let down those who put their trust in him.
Eru Illuvatar watching these with popcorn in hands
u got it WRONg - the Third ring was in the hands of the great Samwise Gamgee. there is a reason why he can talk to snakes and had amazing strength and magical powers. why ya think Gandalf send him to mordor.
I love your style of comedy the +2 fire lol
Thanks. I appreciate the positive vibes! :)
Believe it or not, theoretically the Istari doesn’t need the ring. They are already powerful themselves. The thing is, there is a heavenly restriction that forbade them to use their full power. With the help of the rings, they can somewhat use a lil bit of it.
He also had a magic sword and a magic horse. Gandalf was decked out.
Elrond wears the ring given to Gil-galad after his death during the last alliance
Songs, Oaths, and Rings has such Power in Tolkien world
There’s a third Elden Ring?? I didn’t even know the second one came out
🤣🤣🤣. Best comment ever!!!! 🏆🏆🏆
It's no secret that Gandalf is the keeper of the sacred flame udun, so it only makes sense to give him the ring of fire.
Mithrandir himself
Saruman wanted on so bad he made his own
Hypocritical elves be like, you must destroy the evil ring that evil, bad Sauron made... but only that one, cause don't touch my bling.
I’ve heard a theory that he likely recognised Gandalf from a prior visit to middle earth, although Gandalf doesn’t remember it
Ahahaha man u crazy 😂 very funny) keep it up
Thanks 😅
the ring of fire has both to do with actual fire and "hearts burst into fire". the meaning of it, reignite the fire within hearts, sogandalf did use it on people around him. no wonder this helped his mission.
Gil Galad-Elrond, Galadrijela, Kirdan-Gandalf!
I love the Mandalorian theme playing for Gandalf.
It was the Golden King Gilgalad who wore the third ring as the Elven rings went to those of the Eldar and Noldor but then Gilgalad went missing after the Battle of the Last Alliance
Great comment! 😎
But not sure I would describe Gilgalad as "went missing". More like: fought in a 2v1 battle with Sauron who grabbed him by the neck with his lava fire hands and totally burned him alive while Elendil got in a shot with his sword and killed Sauron. 🤣
The rings of power answer that question for you.
Dwarves stole a Silmaril gem. Frankly I think elves and dwarves where bound for friction because of their radically different tempers and interests.
Only one extra charisma point? What would happen if he got all of them?
I'm not sure how the leveling up system works exactly... M.E. stats are about as vague and unknowable as Elden Ring. ¯\(◉◡◔)/¯
But can you imagine a super charismatic Gandalf? With just a smile and a wink he could send hundreds of innocent Hobbits off on adventures where 90% of them would surely immediately die.
My new favorite idea is that gandalf used the ring of fire to make better fireworks. Thanks bro.
Aw yeah!!!! Love it. 🎇🎆

i'm surprised you didnt use halbrand when you mentioned sauron lol

Cirdan gave it to Gandalf on arrival
Nice answer! For some reason I can't fully explain, I really love the character of Cirdan. I feel like he plays a bigger role in things than we realize. I wish there was more lore on his story. He is kinda Epic!!!
(also, Elf with beard... )
...and that is how he survived the Balrog as well.
Here is my read of it:
The Ring puts Sauron's mind in direct contact with the other Ring bearer's minds.
@@thegreyhavens167 thank you so so much 😍😍😍
That helps me see things so much clearer now! (But quite scary, the mere thought of such insta enslave 😰)
@@thegreyhavens167Galadriel told that when the Enemy thinks of elves, she can read his mind too.
Also the fact the cirdain is literally the oldest elf till the 4th age, dude was literally there when the elves awoke at cuvinienen .
And technically aside from the remaining elves that would become forest spirits and Legolas who would leave later with Gimli.
Cirdan was the last Elf left in middle earth period as his oath is to never leave until all elves who wanted to leave for Valinor did
Cirdan was the oldest elf in Middle Earth and was also the oldest elf to not see the Blessed Realm so he is pretty bad ass
I think a better question is who had the 7 Dwarven rings. And the history of each one down to the remaining three that sauron possesses. 🤔
I knew it was Gandalf - he revealed it in the first movie against balrog!
