Parents Vow to Get Foster Daughter Back After Being Removed Over Heritage

- A sobbing 6-year-old girl was pulled from the arms of her foster parents and bundled off to extended relatives because she is 1.5 percent Native American. The child was removed in accordance with a federal law designed to protect Native American children. Lexi will be sent to live with extended Choctaw family members in Utah, authorities said. Foster parents Rusty and Summer Page vowed to get the girl back, saying they love their daughter and have been caring for her since she was a toddler. #InsideEdition
If she had relatives that wanted to take care of her and could, WHY WOULD THE PUT HER ON ADOPTION!?!?!?
Child was never available for adoption. That is what they were arguing about, for the court to order the state to forcably make her available for adoption and solely to them. There is a reason every court and judge that heard this case found that they had failed in their duties and obligations to the child as foster parents snd why CA2DCOA envoked SCOTUS ruling on estoppel in custody proceeding; you cannot create a ground and then claim that ground as the basis of your argument.
Pat Na literally no one cares about ur 6 story paragraph
She wasn't put up for adoption. Just because she was adored by her foster parents that doesn't mean her family didn't fight tooth and nail trying to get her back. Cps is notorious for taking kids for no reason.
They didn't. She was *_temporarily_* put in foster care and was NOT available for adoption except by family. *The foster parents withheld her for four years. They have political motives to overturn ICWA laws that protect native families* from being torn apart. This is their second child that they tried to do this with. Darn adoptoraptors! Predatory adopters who kidnap kids for their own gain. 🙄
Exactly
If she had relatives willing to raise her, why did they not raise her in the first place?
She was put in foster care temporarily for legal reasons. Then these adoptive parents, knowing she was NOT available to them, withheld her for four years from her loving family. They inflicted a lot of trauma on an innocent child for their own selfish reasons.
susanne anique Calling your bluff. Foster parents have no say if the state wants to remove a foster child from their care. LITERALLY NO SAY WHATSOEVER.
susanne anique this is Not True! They can’t even withheld her because the government would then forcefully take her as soon as they would Withheld so stop spreading misinformation

@@questionmarkoverload I found this and I hope it's true. It says she's with her biological sisters and paternal family members who she knew through Skype etc. No less traumatic for all concerned however. www.adoptionbirthmothers.com/the-drama-and-facts-in-the-battle-over-little-lexi/
If she had family willing to raise her then why did they allow her to join a foster family in the first place?
Mimileaks2 they probably thought she didn’t have any other .
Mimileaks2 she should still be with her foster family regardless . They love her and she loves them and wanted to stay with them
The family probably didn't know about her until after she got adopted.
@@liamileson8567 She should and at the end they said they knew she had family willing to raise her yet waited 4 years too late, the poor girl was devastated...I feel so bad for her.
They probably didn’t know or weren’t allowed until later to take their child back to her family
What matters most isn't the heritage or race, it's whether that child will be put in a safe, happy and healthy home. The foster care system fails allot of children, many get raped, abused, neglected, used for their checks, etc. This foster family is very caring I hope this doesn't happen again.
@Pottsville Fire Department Indeed.
@Pottsville Fire Department Amen
Foster care is like a big asylum
The thing is that in this case, the foster family is in the wrong
The goal of foster care is always reunification, she’s being successfully reunified with bio family
As a native American they shouldn't have taken her away. If she was in bad condition in the home then yes but if she was happy and safe and healthy in the home they shouldn't take her away

She's lucky to live in a neighborhood like that. I think that neighborhood should pitch in and hire few lawyers against the state to have Lexi back.
@@okamijubei Right.
In what way is a whole neighbourhood going outside shoving cameras In her face, blocking the streets, screaming and chasing the car a good thing? All they did was make things worst and scare the child.
She was in foster care temporarily and was always going back to her family that's how foster care works and the couple knew that
@@jonghun8468 She was with them for over 4 years. Since she was 2. It's still sad and traumatizing for the entire family. The children will all suffer from this trauma into adulthood.
@@missld6856 And she was supposed to go back long before that, but the foster parents kept delaying things and trying to adopt her.
The foster placement was only meant to be for a short time whilst her family members were dealing with the paperwork and going through the proper checks before they were allowed have custody and were having regular contact whilst they were waiting (which is standard an usually a very quick process) but once they did all that the foster parents made things very difficult which delayed what should have been a quick transition and caused her to be away from her family for 4yrs.
The foster family knew from day one she wasn't up for adoption and was meant to go back and were warned repeatedly when they started making things difficult. The whole her being 0.1% had nothing to do with it. That's just the excuse the foster family gave and they were very manipulative and kept a child from her family (a family lexi had said many times she wanted to live with) for 4yrs because of it.
And if you want an update. Lexi is happy and back with her REAL family and REAL siblings and settled in straight away and despite what the foster family did. Her REAL family still offered to let them visit her privately and away from the media, but they refused unless they could bring the news crew.
This is why ppl should always hear the other side of the story. Apparently Lexi bio mom gave her up but the bio Dad, her paternal grandparents, and aunt wanted her. The courts placed her in foster care until they got the family issues resolved. Then when the court came to a conclusion the foster parents wanted to adopt her. KNOWING very well that this day was coming and that they never prepared her for this. Now I see those parents as kidnappers more than a loving family.
Exactly, any good foster parent would've prepared her for that reality, and not have scared her. They obviously made this as traumatic as possible, they knew full well this was a reality when they decided to be foster parents
How when the father and his family wanted her?
This is crazy! Just because of a child's heritage should not mean she is taken away from the people she loves and who love her!

This exact thing happened to a high school friend of mine, they had 3 children taken away and sent up north (North island of NZ) to family they'd never met because cyfs decided Māori children should be placed with their extended whanau (family). This isn't about what's best for the child, it about the adults being selfish, I have a step sister who has been in foster care since she was born and it'd be cruel to take her away from the only family she's ever known.
I thought fostering was about finding a loving home, not finding people with the EXACT SAME GENETICS...
Edit:
I'm glad a lot of people agree with me. I want point out, also, that it isn't racist, or even *near* racist, to have a foster child with, say, Indian blood in a family who is white. The whole point of foster care and adoption is to find a loving home for the child in question, not finding someone who has the same DNA or skin color.
I also want to point out that the family members who caused the child to be taken from her loving foster family didn't come out and say they wanted her *before* she was taken into foster care, which is kind of weird if you ask me.
I feel like CPS shouldn't have just whisked her away without question. That's how you'll end up with the child being abused or just mistreated because they're thrown into a random family member's home who ends up not *wanting* to keep the child, and it just dissolves into an endless cycle of the child being bumped from different homes, or suffering.
Even though this case is pretty old, this stuff still happens, and we need to focus on the *child* who is being shifted around like an object rather than a human being who wants a happy family and home.
I know but native Americans fought for this right in 1978. They wanted nothing to do with americans

It was a foster care case and they were never in the clear to adopt her "the relatives were the plan from the start and the foster parents only delayed it
She was safe in that house, too and that is all that matters
SHe knew the relatives and had visitation with them, the relatives were supposed to have gotten her years ago when she only been there for a short time but the fosters dragged it out. the courts can't change the custody plan just because one of the sides managed to play legal keep away in courts for a extended period of time
So if some one kidnapped a child because they wanted to be a parent and managed to keep the child in the house safe and bonded to them as the only parents she knows you would say that is the only thing that matters?

Okay.. SERIOUSLY?! They ripped a four year old from the hands of her PARENTS. Foster or not she wanted to stay with them. All this god damn mess over 1.5 percent of a different heritage. It's pathetic and messed up. Part of the reason why people hated residental schools was they forcefully took children from their homes. Why is this different?
Umm...theres a historical context for this. The same native children were plucked from their families and forced to not recognize their heritage etc. Sad but why is this broadcasted when it's done often when families make the change that's necessary and then the child is removed, "plucked" from their foster families.
You do know that the child's extended family have been seeking to reunite with her for years right? They weren't strangers, she knew them as family including her sisters. The Pages refused to hand her over when the family went to seek reunification the first time years ago. Lexi isn't the first child that had to be taken from them, there was another child they also knew wasn't up for adoption that they refused to hand over . And no offense why call the media? The protesters? They knew from the beginning they could not adopt her and instead of making this a peaceful transition they turned into a media circus.

This child was supposed to be placed temporarily while bio family was assessed for placement. Foster family thought they got a cute lil baby without having to pay an adoption fee, so they dragged their feet and withheld this child from her family for 4 years. This was the 2nd time they had pulled this stunt, and they told this poor baby that "bad people" were coming to steal her from them so they could get the most agony and tears out of her for the cameras. Their foster care license was revoked (thankfully). The drama and fanfare in this video was 100% for the adults. Their GoFundMe raised $60,000 even though they had a pro bono attorney. Absolutely shameful.

IT DOES NOT MATTER IF LEXI IS DIFFERENT AS LONG AS SHE IS WITH A FAMILY, SHE IS ONE OF THEM😣😣
Reunification with the relatives was the plan from the start, The foster family were just delaying the move as long as possible in hopes the courts would use the time they had with her as an excuse to change the plan and allow her to be up for adoption by them
...
The pages knew from the beginning that ICWA and the Utah Relatives applied in the case and the relatives would be the next step if reuniting her with the father was not possible, The reason the Pages were offered to foster her in the first place is because the second foster parents before them backed out of taking care of her after realizing that adoption was not on the table and they didn't want to foster and bond with her just to have her leave the home.

Nevermind what Lexi wants. Nevermind about her safety with people that love her. People that barely know her will decide her fate because her race dictates where she belongs. That's crazy the lines we draw up because they sound good on paper but don't look so go when applied in the real world. I feel sorry for this family and Lexi.
What has our society come to. It should be Lexi's choice. 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Your right they love her so much
Yes but she would have to be older
Wolfie 20750 it's a federal law for native Indians...
Yes i agree with this completely
When the dad started crying I lost it.
Daddy Namjoon I’m crying so hard rn
Daddy Namjoon same 😭😭😭😭

Thx😊
Springfurry Furries forever they knew before she became a foster child in their home they would not be allowed to adopt her, they originally agreed with the transition plan it’s in the court documents
PaulaSB12 i understand that but its still hard to watch
Springfurry Furries forever IKR *let her be*
I pray for that little girl, may she be returned to her family. How shameful, if her relatives were "willing to raise her why didn't they right away. Shame on them for shattering that little girls life.
The department needs to be sued for emotional damage to the family and the kids
@ethan cayton I disagree I don’t know the full story but some of the comments made me understand some of it
They tried to. Court didn't listen. The entire Neighborhood in a way lost
This is wrong the little girl wanted to stay but they took her away because of her race that is wrong
Explain to me why Lexi was taken from her biological parents? Explain to me why you think the extended family has no right to adopt Lexi? Explain to me why the Page should have rights to take Lexi?
Chelsea Stauty 1.5 that is. she is in a loving home ,for tht 1.5 ,I'm mixed shld I pick a side?
Chelsea Stauty and racict
Lasna34 but she was 1.5 something else so that's why they took her
But it's still wrong
Child services: she is 1.5% native american
parents and siblings: what but......
child services:HAND HER OVER
that law is incredibly stupid
One they my social service person hurt me and told me to kill my self then she kicked me
Sorry but they knew this would come eventually they were fostering her they didn't adopt her if they seriously wanted her as a daughter they would of adopted her and not just fostered her.
Who tf cares about her damn race or anyone's!? That is her family and she should have a choice she wasn't in harms way or anything there for they had no right uprooting her life some where new
Lillian Sebalt Native American laws, or laws to protect native Americans. American government messed with Native Americans, so in an attempt to "fix" American government relationship with native Americans, not right this had to happen though
Lillian Sebalt Foster parents, clearly these people should have their foster licences revoked. This child was never up for adoption, they were her foster parents not her adopted parents. Or do you not know the difference. The child is not going to people who complete strangers, her blood family has been attempting to get the child back since she was a toddler and the Paige have played keep away ever since, they haven't known her since she was an infant they didn't have her for that long when her blood family wanted her, they did not have the right to keep her after the blood relatives were already granted rights when Lexi was younger, the family was than force to visit since the Paiges refused to give Lexi to them. They don't deserve to ever foster a child after this. The fact that they were allowed to keep her even after the first time they were told to give her back is amazing. Now that she's older she's gotten attached to these jerks and probably hates her bio family with how they were acting as they had their whole neighborhood bashing the social workers for doing what they should have done years ago, crying and screaming scaring the already confused child.
I dont know what universe this is anymore. As more time goes on, the U.S. is becoming more like North Korea.
Why for 4 years did her biological family not bother trying to get her but wait til now smh.. And why did this foster family not bother adopting her already smh.. Poor child!!
Zoey Leah i saw someone commenting, they did try to get her but her foster family denyed their legal right to visit her and tried to keep her locked up with them as long as possible. Besided its foster care, they knew they would have to give her back to her biological family with her sister
Zoey Leah no bc they didn’t know that she was part Native American until that point and her biological parents didn’t get her the relatives did
He was probably in jail or something... or just a complete dick
If your Native American that means your in a tribe. Whoever is in the same tribe is your cousin
Ben Bobango you're super ignorant
I wish there was an update for all involved. I've never forgotten this horrible situation.
Same! I hope Lexi is doing alright after what has happened to her😭
what makes me really upset was when the boy and girl were crying it broke my heart im acctually crying
Alannah Fitzpatrick ikr
Bring her back NOW 😡😡😡😤😤😭😭why??!!!
Katty Diva too late mate 😂
Katty Diva yup
YES! I HOPE SHE GETS GIVEN BACK! If that was me I would cry for the rest of my life 😰😥😓
Case over she is staying in Utah and in the pictures she seems happy with them
I agree SO much!!!!😡😡😡😡
It’s been 4 Years I wonder if they got her back🥺
I looked it up, they did.
@@billstone8468 No. The supreme court refused to hear the case. They lost.
@@LankanIan why would the Supreme Court refuse to hear the case?
Kyle Roberts Because the system is broken
Bts Kim seok-tae I looked and unfortunately no 😔🥺
whether or not the removal was an injustice, for the sake of not creating more trauma than already is present in the fact of being removed from a home you've known, the family could have done what many other foster families heroically do which is calmly and privately prepared the child for this day, given her assurances of support and love and done everything they could to make sure that she felt as safe and protected as possible even if they then continued behind the scenes to fight to get her back. Instead they chose to make it a horrible free for all and exposed her to what must've been a terrifying scene with a media circus and crowds shouting and their own children whipped up into a frenzy and the screaming. That is a fairly good sign that whatever this was about for them, it wasn't about that child's welfare. None of the children in that family should have been exposed to that hysteria. This is a good example of unbelievably selfish parenting.
I can’t wait until the day she turns 18. She’ll finally be able to make her own decisions and meet up with her family again
Brendan CPLG she probably won’t wanna go back, because the Native American family is going to be taking care of her for most of her life
KOHNA maybe maybe not. But from my experience, kids that age will never forget their first family
@F. A. Ironically that wasn't the only native kid that family targeted for adopting when they were never put up for foster to adopt, they were only up for foster until the court sorted the situation out. They tried to legally kidnap these kids but the court didn't let that fly
Did you even watch it all
She'll never want to be with them. They psychologically abused her for years while her real family fought to take her back.
This was 2 years ago, I remember watching when it first came out and being so sad for that family
Bobbie D. Me too!♡
Bobbie D. Same
Please bring Lexi back naw is Torture for the family that’s raised her for 4 years 😭😭😭😭😭
Ya ...I want Lexi back 😥😥😥😥😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I think what’s messed up is they knew this girl had family and said “no, we wanna keep her”. And now years later this truama happened when they should have given her to her family in the first place
It's not the government's or the foster parents choice, it the CHILD'S CHOICE!😠
Oge Mogbo Its actually the government's choice bc the law says she's to young to make the choice
That's GAME! ! thats stupid she should be with the people she wants to be with
Oge Mogbo No, it's not. A child cannot make that decision. They don't understand all the they're deciding. A child my choose to stay with a family solely out of fear. Or because they've been manipulated.
Oge Mogbo the child did not want to leave she had too bc she had to be replaced with a Native American family
Oge Mogbo ikr that's basically kidnappe
Race doesn't matter she has a loving home with a loving family, all that matters is that she is loved❤ #bringlexihome 😭😭
Alexia McConnell That’s not really why she was taken away. She is loved with her real family and sisters.
indiancountrymedianetwork.com/news/native-news/icwa-lexi-to-remain-with-utah-family-in-appeals-court-ruling/
DNA doesn’t make a family, love does
Le Imagination021417 You’re right, and her real family loves her. They love her so much that they put her first and let her choose. The foster family illegally held her against her will for four years. That is not love.
she should GET TO PICK WHO SHE WANTS TO BE WITH!
Linda Sigurðardóttir. I agreed she should get to pick
Linda Sigurðardóttir yes I agree
Linda Sigurðardóttir it isn't fair for Lexi😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😭😭😭😭😭
Nacona Martinez politics isn't fair governments aren't fair
He cried no tears? I don't know, I feel like the foster parents were going to far. Like a scene out of a lifetime movie.
agreed
This is racism in a way.
Amber Z I don't understand why it would take years to make this decision just because of her race that's not a good excuse if there was family willing to raise her why would they not be the first people contacted for adoption you can't let somebody move into a family's house get comfortable start calling the mom and dad and then show up and take them because they're different race
Amber Z
No it's discrimination.
+Big Ol Internet Troll I think South Africa has them beat
Amber Z 500th like
Amber Z I agree
if she had family willing to raise her where were they those four years
Working with the agency and fighting the foster parents in court
They didn’t even know she had Native American in her so when they found out they searched for family members when they found them they contact them told them about the girl then they said they was willing to raise he y’all need to get y’all facts right
The relatives where working with the agency about getting her before the pages even knew about her. The reason she was placed with the Pages was that the relatives could not take her in at that time since they were in a different state and doing so would have made it impossible for the father to have a chance to reunite with her so they were to wait as plan be if and when the fathers plan failed. Also the foster family Lexi was in before the pages chose to send her back to the agency once they found out that adoption would not be an option for them and the Pages were told this from the start when taking her in.
Lauren Dwyer I agree 😢😢😿😿😿
ok....I think that's a little racist, taking a child to live with her own kind...and not with other people with not her kind..? I have 2 kids that's aren't human, and i love them
(there birds)
Watch out, they might come and take them to live with their own kind
They're*
Birds lol I have a cat cat that is my bb
J- Arms Not racist I know it's sad but it's better for Lexi to stay with her family
J- Arms lol bird kids
Bless Lexi and the whole freaking neighbour hood. She deserves better❤️❤️❤️❤️
