I have been to the Lavra three times. One of the times was during the split from the Russian Orthodox Church. Some of the Ukrainians, friends of mine, didn’t take the Ukrainian Orthodox Church seriously at the time, thought the split was dumb. Their views have changed 180 degrees since, and now even try to not speak Russian, which was their at home native language. Imagine that giant shift, to no longer worship in the same sect or speak your language solely because you now despise the country of control.

Guess what? For most of them it WAS NOT their native language, they had it imposed on them because Ukrainian language was forbidden in school and in the workplace. Many had their names Russified so to destroy their actual native culture. This happened for generations during USSR and the effect carried on after. Sometimes you need to look deeper into these things before drawing conclusions.

Plus there were cases of priests taking pictures of critical infrastructure and military outposts in cities and than sending them into russian agencies. Moreover during this SBU "raid" they found a lot of propaganda materials about "Novorossia" and how Ukraine should be a part of Russia.

I'm inclined to believe that lady who said it's a song of old. You can have traitors in all places even churches, France saw that in WW2 but I hope it's just a precaution and a false alarm.

I grew up in Northern Ireland during some of the most violent times in its history. The British government, British Army and police committed numerous horrific crimes against the Irish Catholic community. As well as laws to oppress and blatant religious discrimination in the work force. Despite the oppression and brutal violence . Our churches were never targeted for persecuted and all their assets stolen and definitely not without due process .

In Ukraine, the court is not obliged to prove the guilt of a citizen, because during repressions people may not be tried, but liquidated for political views. The repression in Ukraine is even stronger now than in Stalin's time.
Where is the so called democracy in Kiev? I would spect this things to happen in Rusia or North Korea or Cuba but not in heavenly democratic Kiev.
