I was expecting a very stable version with Centos stream 9, but sound is not working (I think because pipewire not working... aplay -D sysdefault piano2.wav works), and packages in rpm fusion seems not presents.
CentOS and Scientific Linux were open source rebuilds of RHEL. Not everything RH is open source, so you didn’t exactly get everything, but they were great for use by hospitals, universities, etc. Sadly, Cent folded, and that’s why Rocky and Alma sprang up. They’re for serious enterprise stuff, without having to pay for RH support. Fedora is it’s own community, with support from RH. It’s its own enthusiast distro, but is the beta playground for RHEL. You could run it on a server, but I wouldn’t. Ubuntu started as an enthusiast distro mostly for desktops, then grew into the server space, especially in Africa and Europe. And that’s not half as complicated as the history of Unix (I supported SunOS/Solaris and HP-UX). Damn.... So think Rawhide -> Fedora -> RHEL -> Cent/Alma/Rocky.
DT only looks at DEs, (and I guess installers and other stuff nessesary to get to that step). What do you realistically expect him to review? From his perspective the difference between these distributions is the wallpaper. They both use default gnome, with dnf and yum, and the anaconda installer.
The main difference is one is LTS and the other isn’t. Fedora doesn’t offer an LTS version and that gap is nicely filled by RHEL and its clones upstream.

Damn....
So think Rawhide -> Fedora -> RHEL -> Cent/Alma/Rocky.
Could you do an Alma linux vs Rocky linux comparison video?
DT only looks at DEs, (and I guess installers and other stuff nessesary to get to that step). What do you realistically expect him to review? From his perspective the difference between these distributions is the wallpaper. They both use default gnome, with dnf and yum, and the anaconda installer.
do it also work with normal Laptop for Private use, when i interest in an Distro like Fedora but with LTS?
Of course it does! If you install it as a desktop, it will run exactly like Fedora but you won’t be forced to upgrade every six months.
I don't recall having any problems with Gnome Wayland in my VM's. It works just as well as X11.
I still run X11 because its still more than adequate and Wayland still isn’t ready for prime time.
Sometimes I think DT has a personal problem with Wayland rather than a technical one.
Im not sure but I think the normal AlmaLinux group was the "Workstation", just like the Fedora main DE (gnome) its also called Fedora Workstation
Correct. This is also available from the start when using the full dvd iso
The main difference is one is LTS and the other isn’t. Fedora doesn’t offer an LTS version and that gap is nicely filled by RHEL and its clones upstream.
Try Alt Linux. AFAIK is the only distro with APT+RPM
PCLOS is also APT with RPM.
DT , thanks for the video. Well done and informative. I have a question for you and some of the distro tube family. I have an old macmini(2011)5.1 2.3ghz dual core with 16gb of ram. I am using MX Linux, I like it , I am using the suggested older machine distro. My question is what other distros should I look at with my cpu limitations? I am a beginner , but I am getting comfortable really quickly. Enjoy your channel, keep it up!,,
Can you review chimera-linux?
Alma means apple in hungarian .-.
Almát körtével...
Which is better Alma Linux or Rocky Linux?
They’re identical so its a matter of deciding which RHEL clone best suits your taste.
rocky linux is the best :)
EL8 means Enterprise Linux 8.
5:29 - WAIT DT! You want to select the checkbox "Make this user administrator". That is important bro.
"Alma" was Spanish. Not any more. To USAers it's "orlmor"
Hello! 🍻🇿🇲🇬🇷
just want you to comfirm the disk,i think
10:31 to 10:38 What you do heare is pointless. There is no need for use minimal install cli if you want to use server with gui. The outcome is same as when you check the box in gui software selection at 5:15. Yes you can choose Server with gui there even if minimal iso is used
Not sure if he was trolling or not but Gnome doesn't use those color of icons in their file manager anymore its an older version.

RHEL releases are not based on the latest and greatest Fedora versions. If I'm not mistaken, RHEL 9.0 is based on Fedora 34, and that's why we don't see any of the newer GNOME stuff.
@@lucas7061 Sounds about right I wasn't sure how far behind the stable packages were.
Apparently RHEL 9.0 is out since May 17, 2022.
All good for ten years! You love Fedora but you don’t want upgrade every six months? That’s where Alma Linux and Rocky Linux are for the long term.
Is it systemd garbage free?
Rocky Linux is probably the distro you wanted to try 😉
root passwd definitely not dt
Aw naw.
I love your videos and my I ask for you make a video on how to give a desktop to my second screen I use archcrafft and I do not know how to do it
>last video
Shills systemd
>this video
Shills redhat
What a coincidence!
Hello
Alma means Apple in Hungarian I don’t think there is a coincidence but funny
4:11 I personally prefer to encrypt my dad but I guess everyone is free to do as they please
Cent os is is now the betaversion of rhel. That's the reason why nobody uses it anymore.
This awful upload is not a “first look at Alma Linux”. Just because a few more gigs of download is mysteriously something you can’t handle, we have to sit through you sudouing this and that for ages. I have no idea at all what this distro is like because I’m not going to waste time watching this video all the way through. Derek, this is my first ever dislike on one of your videos.
ALMA....RED HAT RED DRESS FEAR the GAME....I'M GETTING PTSD...
LOL, a patreon supporter, actually calling him self Y. U Bald. What a troll. :D
alma is a fedora with color ahaha
why so many distributions based on CentOS/RedHat that want to do same? it hurts integrity and kind of undermine position of Linux... Rocky ,Alma.. I would rather one that's working properly instead of several incomplete. Similar think basically almost killed FreeBSD...
If you have NO known; why are youreviewing!
🤣the fact I'm from a city called alma n we say it different 😭
World
First
All your linux? LOL
virtuozzo/vz linux is red hat based too (I thhink). Aint sus that 8.6 and 9 versions were released practically at the same time? amd has not released drivers for rh 9 yet
