Dry vs Moist TPU in 3D Printing

- My #TPU took on some moisture and my #ditto #3dprint really showed it. So I had a go at drying it out and I’m super pleased with the results.
I used a DIY solution, but if you want to look into filaments dryers, Amazon’s got ‘em (affiliate): amzn.to/408KPqY - Наука та технологія
It’s amazing how community oriented 3D printing is, I can’t believe you found the mods for that exact dehydrator!
I know right?! It’s so awesome!!
The 3d printing community is probably one of the best out there
I’m stoked bc I have the same exact dehydrator too. I actually make a lot off jerky with mine tho lol but def planning on drying out some tpu with that adaptor
if you become apart of the community keep it that way!
Yea it's not always that easy
I use that same dehydrator for making jerky. Looks like I have a project to try out
Wouldn’t recommend using it for jerky again afterwards
@@thereinthetrees_5626correct. These filaments are not food safe
I recently found an open, five year old spool of PLA and surprisingly it printed perfectly.
I’ve been 3D printing for a year and so far my favorite thing about 3D printing is the community. This reminds me, I need to order TPU during Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. I haven’t tried it yet and have a Sunlu dryer spool now that I used to recondition some of my early filaments before I learned about dry boxes.
The ditto of normal person agains the ditto of a smoker
😂 When I buy filament, I use one color until I'm done using that color. Those other packages just stay closed. I'm gonna skip that whole process.😅
Don't be so sure, factory seals are not perfect. Sealed filament has often absorbed moisture, either in the bag, or before packaging.
Thats pretty solid evidence. Im still gonna pretend leaving my filament out is fine, but youre right lol
I honestly thought for a hot second the ditto was a scrub daddy 💀
What are the chances that I was looking at UA-cam shorts and this video popped up at the same time as my daughter picking out a print to make on makers world and the one she picked was a ditto?
Pretty cool!
I have a similar dehydrator that I made a Paper Adaptor for to fit my Filament with a good seal (although it needs some adjustment for ease of use).
And I used it for TPU, but I noticed that even just after a few hours, I noticed a difference in my stringing test!
I would love to have a way to store the filament without getting wet, and to be able to use it while it's in storage without getting wet.
Cool video!
Thank your for sharing,
lol the wet ditto genuinely looks depressed
Thanks for showing this, I had heard about moisture being an issue, but never saw a comparison like this before. 👍
my mom used to have that exact dehydrator, we used to pick apples from the tree in our backyard, core them and cut them into circular slices using a special spinning tool thingy, add cinnamon and make apple chips out of them, those things are so fucking good and i want to make them again now
Send some my way when you do! 😋
makes me wonder if someone would be willing to make a filament dehydrator that clicks onto the 3d printer so it can always stay dehydrated
I don't know of an exact model, but I have seen stand-alone filament dehydrators that also act as a spool holder and feed directly into the printer.
@@printmeister I could imagine someone could make an attachment for a dehydrator that would have a hole for filament to go through. It would have to be vertical tho...
@@JessicaFEREMWhy does it have to be vertical? I have a 5kg spool holder, and my stand for it holds horizontally. Works just as well.
You don't actually want that. Dehydrators have openings for airflow. What you really want is a dehydrator AND a box with 3a molecular sieves inside with a hole drilled in the lid.
You can use the filament box and poke 4-6 holes with a screwdriver.
I like the fact that his voice sound moist after he used the dehydrator
I store dry, i print out of filament dehydrators, and if needed i have a higher temp food dehydrator. Store dry, print dry, keep dry. It seriously helps, especially for petg.
I wonder if I'm the only one that likes how the first ditto looks. Add a cool texture.
WhattheFUNKYCOLDMEDINA
You squished that thing, and I was *not* prepared.
I use a vacuum box. Warm spool and vacuum drues instantly.
You can use your print bed as a make shift heater
This is the juice right here 😁
hey nice video man, on what temp
erature are u dehydrating?
From experience dry tpu is a must for printing
"I used the filament to fix the filament"
i still want a filament dryer and a portable printer head
Here's a tip: for best results with TPU filament, you should feed the TPU directly from the dryer, to the nozzle
This is an absolute must for using Nylon/PA6/PA12 unless your print isn't going to take longer than a half hour or so. It just absorbs so just water so quickly
Use your 3d printer hot bed, put your roll on it set to 60c . Use the carton package of your roll to cover itpoen few smal hole on the carton, wait 30 min it should ne good.
I feel sorry I didn't hear "Ditto" but the motorized other one :'D
great hack btw
I just cut the webbed racks out of a handful of trays.
wow wtf that must be a popular dehydrator, i love when you find stuff like an adapter for your shit haha to make a 50 dollar item free hahaha amazing
me watching the video: 😐
"And he is nice and smooth and squishy" Me: 😯😯😯🤯🤯😁😁😁😁😁😁😍😍😍😍😍🥳🥳
Does a ziplock bag with one of the dehydrator packets that come with the roll work? I’ve been having issues with blobs and zits I’m thinking it might be the cause
Sunlu is now 35 $ 2024 model.
Hey, do you have a link to the Ditto by any chance ?
I wonder if they'll ever have a filament that gets fuzzy in a controlled way to hide layer lines without the pitting the waterlogged stuff does
foaming filament already exists, it's based on temp rather than moisture though
Besides the mentioned foaming filaments, modern slicers also have a fuzzy skin option that does exactly what you are describing.
Just wondering does tpu make any bad fumes when printing because my parents are worried about me printing with it
I use my dehydrator to dry magic mushrooms
Well this is great. I feel a little stupid for not having thought of that since I make jerky with a dehydrator and also 3d print. 😬
That’s ok. Yah probably don’t want to use the dehydrator for food after sticking filament in there anyway
That's the darker shade of a shiny ditto, also known as a shitto
Can I have the cad file for this
Did you get the model from cults3d??
Can you dehydrate pla?
You can also put it in microwave
Next time make the Z seam in the back
Is this a publicly available model?
the firs one is like please killlllll meeeeeeeerr
This video made me feel attacked
A pretty big difference apparently
😂it's been 2 years I have my pla and it does not move ...
Where can I find the file for the ditto print? I’ve been searching for forever to make a Christmas gift for my little brother but I can’t seem to find it.
Right here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:1932974
@@printmeister thank you so much!
Idk, kinda liked tge imperfections.
Then there's me with TPU wet out of the box, drying for six hours in dedicated filament dryer and still looking worse than YOUR BEFORE PRINT
That sounds frustrating 😱
I’ve been printing a decent bit out of tpu I’ve found brand makes a massive difference, I usually buy the cheapest filaments but with tpu I pretty much buy the most expensive, it’s £25 for half a kg of the stuff I get usually and since I’ve spent the bit extra I get perfect prints (after drying ofc)
I have my filament sitting around for over 3 years in my office and the prints still turn out perfectly, so how much time does it take until it gets bad?
Depends on the filament. TPU picks up water much quicker than most others. There’s a pretty good debate on whether or not drying is even necessary on pla.
Did you try putting it in rice.
Hii
What side are you getting these models from?
I usually search on thangs.com. If I can’t find what I’m looking for I search on Cults3D next.
So I don’t need an enclosure for TPU printing eyes😮?
Not in my experience. Though I haven’t done a lot of printing with tpu
D I T T O
I've been meaning to make a dry print box for ages, it's cheaper and just as easy as a food dehydrator, and it lets you print straight from the box. All you need is some rollers to put the spool on, a reptile terrarium heating pad for the bottom, and some sharkbite fittings for your bowden tubing and you can pretty much seal off everything right up to the extruder.
To make it even better, add a fan at the bottom to suck in air from below the box, and a little flap at the top (just kept closed by gravity) so that you have positive pressure and some airflow, and it'll dry filament in a few minutes.
Wait what how does plastic absorb moisture
What temperature did you use on the dehydrator?
I think 46c for this. It’s been a while though
Where is the dido
Dude, clean that fan.
Isn’t ditto canonically a mistake so shouldn’t it have holes and imperfections in it?
😲
This is absurd how many things you need for 3d printing
There are a lot of things 😬. You could probably skip the filament dryer if you don’t print in TPU or just use it all shortly after opening it.
Correction; boiling.
Thats a shiny ditto btw😏
Love it! Didn’t even think of that!!!
Now let’s align that z-seam so my OCD can calm down
Do fleshlight
oyasumi onii-chan
home made jerkey is the way
Make me a yellow Banana
53rd
I think if you printed the ditto in pink like it should’ve been, then the water in the it would actually make it look pretty cool
I’ve used 4 year old pla that just sat in my basement and never had issues likes the first ditto… I think that might be settings related
This is TPU though. It reacts differently to moisture than PLA
@@printmeister I somehow did not notice that!!!
Stop printing stuff that has no use
“Stop having fun!!!!!!” - you
Hygrometer
lol mass click😂
Not a very good ditto… should be an exact copy
He’s working on it 😆
Minecraft
Who here hates tpu for it's inability to print well or at all?
turns out nobody is as stupid as you
Please yellow banana
