don't like that syrupy phaser on the intro by Jim, it should be a more subtle sound, that's a really 80s-ish vibe for a song that's right out of a 70s netherworld
@mattfriedman7035 which is fine I love that the band tinker with their sound, just had to point out it was quite an incompatible tone with the song's vibe 😄 remember, he used to use an MXR Phase 90, as can be heard subtly on OKONOKOS, he took that out of his rig after 2009. But when the band reconvened in 2019, he put it back in his rig. He probably still has the Phase 90, or as I've heard it's the Phase 99, but that sounds like a Boss Phaser or even a weird flanger tone. Strange, just thinking about it and MMJ aren't really huge on modulation pedals song to song. The wah wah is barely used, just Bo on Evil Urges on the clavinet and Carl using it on Cobra and Wasted. He's started stepping on it a lot more for Dondante now, tho. They hardly If ever use chorus or flanger. The Phase 90's usage on PWW, Off the Record (both guitar and keys), Steam, IWSYS, and War Begun was about it.
@mattfriedman7035 Jim is very underrated, he wasn't thought of as a guitar hero, that was more Carl during the ISM/Z/EU era but once Circuital came out, Jim has started taking over a lot more lead parts. I was shocked by that at first, even tho Jim solos on Lay Low and Dondante, OBH, a few others. Now it's 55 Carl to 45 Jim I'd say, maybe even 50/50 on some nights with certain set liste
Thanks for posting. A favorite for two decades. SO beautiful. They should open every concert with this song.
love how they finish with the It Still Moves secret track

I think it pops more but thats my take. It is a really slow song so I think he is trying to emphasize the intro transition.

@@LSUOdyssey I think he’s such underrated guitarist. I saw him solo and then saw him with MMJ twice. One of the best live bands I’ve seen!
@mattfriedman7035 yessss!!! See them every chance you get! 10x for me and been listening to them since 2004 when I saw them on Conan
