I have the 1980 335s Pro Deluxe in Tobacco Sunburst. The coil tap is awesome. Any tone is achievable during live shows, and I really like not having to use more than one guitar during a gig. I just got it back from the shop for a fret dressing and re-crown. I absolutely love this guitar. I know that there's some debate about it having a 'coil tap' as opposed to a 'coil split'. But I have the original paperwork from Gibson, and the original catalog pamphlet. Gibson marketed the guitar with a 'coil tap'. So I call it a coil tap.
I have the 1st year (1980) if this, and it's one of my favs! It has well earned it's spot in my road guitar stand/rack! Just has a killer sound with those vintage DFs in it. Newer DFs just don't have the same mojo as these Shaw date stamped original DFs do! GREAT RARE GUITAR! If you see one, BUY IT! I did!!! 👍👈👌👏👏👏👏👏👋☮
I had one of these back in 2008, then they weren't particularly valuable, I really didn't think it was all that great of an instrument it just sounded like a bad SG with no character.

I have a mint sunburst one; a highly underrated guitar!

Great review! It's a 335-S not an ES 335.
