Kaalam is a documentary film about the art and life of the legendary percussion maestro late Pallavur Appu Marar.. He had a painful childhood. An absentee father and limited traditional schooling moored in him an unflinching faith towards the God Lord Shiva. He believes his first Guru is Lord Shiva. He has only received six months of formal training on percussion art. His genius, high degree of creativity, diligence and determination made him a maestro, second to none. The film won the first Kerala Kala Mandalam Award for the most outstanding short film on performing arts. The film was also screened at the Festival of South Asian Documentaries at Kathmandu between 3-6 October 2013 and has also travelled all over the world as a part of the touring cinema.

Dear Keli, I have watched the Documentary on my TAB by searching the Link on UA-cam for better viewing experience.
You have done an Excellent job by compiling good data and sequencing it in proper format. The frames in each shot are superbly done and hence photography is another feather on your cap. The subject is covered very well in narration and it is done in right tone with utmost respect to an Artist as he deserves.
On the whole it was a wonderful experience for me. Please continue with your passion of selecting such subjects and bringing it alive on celluloid and thus preserving our culture forever.
