This video is what did it!! Thank you so much for this! I watched the other one first, so the wrist movements helped, but this is what got me to understand what was actually happening with the poi heads. =) Thanks!!
This is great! I was watching your earlier tutorial and started using your tips and integrated them with mine, but wasn't sure if I was doing it correctly. This video confirmed I was practicing correctly. Thanks Nick! Keep spinning and smiling :)
OMG........this was such an awesome tutorial!! I just received my poi on tuesday. I am a beginner. You've made learnign the 5 beat seem so simplistic!!! Now i must do it in a fluid motion. But I managed to get it!!! Practice makes better. THank you sooooo much!!!
Oops that below post was for the Crossy Crossy... Stupid phone skipped a page while I was ranting on the name of the Crossy Crossy. Lol. But me luvs the 5-beat weave! I was so proud when I learned this & orbitals! How to do in reverse tho? Have a vid for that? We also like your assistant for this vid. :)
Strangely after trying for some time and then pausing spinning for an even longer time, I saw this video and gave it another try and suddenly - 5beat. \o/
The end trick the very last one I think is the key to those of us who know the 3 beat weave, but like me are still stuck on getting it from letting them "wrap" to that final transition where we're doing it.
I wish you could come to my home town and teach me there is no one here that does poi I would have to travel like 3 hours weekend to try to find someone
A good answer to your question is a wonderful video that Nick made called "Loving the 5-Beat Weave". He shows all the benefits of being able to do the 5-beat. Here's a link: /watch?v=sYiMjOhL8KE
Now I know I need a lot of practice with that move (which is true for anything one does) and I'm kind of not very flexible (which I hope will improve with spinning) but I see one challenge I'll keep having: The poi that goes around the arm (The left in the first part of the tutorial) has way more speed when crossing. I think I'm giving it too much swing when going around the arm. Any hints except the very obvious "practice, practice, practice!"?
I, too, am not very flexible in the shoulders and wrists. I learned this move by letting my strings twist together instead of twisting my wrists. It's pretty difficult to describe but they untangle when you switch sides.
Oh thank God it's only been up since 6/27... Ok we still have time to rename this thang before it... Sticks! Leave your new move name idea for this cool move well love to do (but hate to say) below!!! :) As soon as I wake up a dzn names will come to me & I'll bombard your FB wall with them till we all can agree on a better one (no offense cuz we're friends, lol). I'm on a crusade now & there's no stopping me!!!
