What always surprised me in this video was Gene Clark leaving the front row to Mc Guinn and Crosby and then slowly coming back for the last chorus. Indeed, he was the most charismatic member of the Byrds and was attracting light. Thinking about how he finished being entirely forgotten by the music industry shows how cruel it is.
Michael Clarke was a bit of a thumper wasn't he? That said, a band as reliant on intricate vocal harmonies like The Byrds was always going to have trouble due to the limitations of the equipment of the day (no monitors, etc.). There was just no way without monitors that the singers could ever properly hear themselves over the din of the guitar amps. That said, I'm just thankful we have this (warts and all), as so little actual live performance footage of the original lineup exists.
"Rather than attempting three-part harmonies like the Beatles (or five-part harmonies like the Beach Boys), the Byrds almost always employed the two-part harmony strategy of the Everly Brothers."
@@Kwolfx Please listen. Gene's is the lower (and flat) voice. Note when he steps away from the microphone. McGuinn sings in tune. When Gene comes in the second time he does a lot better.
@mcmike100 - Gene was pretty anxious and it rubbed off a bit, not much, on McGuinn. Micheal Clarke's stance is stiff, for sure. You certainly can't say David Crosby's stiff here though... he's almost oozing into the floor.
It doesn't sound the greatest, and I'm pretty sure it's Michael's drumming. It sounds like he's using the kick in place of the hi-hat. If he'd just let up on the kick and go a little harder on the cymbals, it would be a lot better.
Ahh the mid 1960s when chicks were still into guys, free love and a white guy playing guitar was sexy for females. 50 plus years later it's simply a distant black and white analog memory.
I see a comment that David is really high, well, I sure as hell can't tell. One of my favorite groups, but can't figure out why they needed the guy with the tambourine. Just another guy to split the money with. I read somewhere he wrote some of the music, non of which I remember.
Okay, yeah, you should know who Gene Clark is if they're one of your favorite groups, but the big red flag for me is that you didn't realise you could directly reply to a UA-cam comment in 2019 (or 2018 maybe)

There was never a a cooler guy with a tambourine in the history of rock and roll than the great Gene Clark.♏💕
You said it all.
I love the brief glimpse of a girl in the audience wearing granny glasses, just like Roger tMcGuinn.
David Crosby is high. Like, really, really, really high.
tpmcginnis Crosby? Never!!! :')
Eight miles high?
David Crosby looks very ... chilled out 🌿

Why hasn't this video got more views?
Crosby looks like a goofy young kid. In a few years he would transform into a world-weary Woodstock hippie.
T.A.M.I.~the greatest rock 'n' roll live concert in history imo. (Check out Glen Campbell playing in the band on this DVD.)
This TNT and not the Tami show!
@@vanjimbo I was referring to the DVD, not the clip above. And, yes, this clip is from T.N.T. Thanks.
Gene Clark! 🥰😍

Esto sí que era música canciones elegancia por eso en el 2020 se suspira por ella.
epic
0:26 McGuinn to Crosby: Geez man we sound like crap live. (still epic though)
I saw them live in Phoenix at the VIP club and they were fantastic. Their sound was exceptional live.
The screaming probably would’ve been about 2-4 times worse than that if it were the Beatles standing there
I’m at minute 2:12
Gene's singing a fraction flat. Should have been mixed down a fraction.
You mean Roger McGuinn. He's the one singing lead on this one. Frankly, the whole band's tempo feels a little slow. Like they're not really into it.

Stiffest version I've ever heard of this.
You what? This is garage rock, baby - deal with it.

@@huwgriffiths7271 It's not garage rock. It's just live. I agree that mcmike should relax and go with the flow. He's stiffer than the band! 😱
Michael Clarke got better over the next few years, but he's a super primitive drummer at this point. It drags the whole performance down.
LOL....yeah it is stiff like taffy, but there is a certain attractiveness to it don't you think?

Haven't gotten over it yet? Lol
The Byrd's were not at the Tami show!
TNT is cheaper imitation of the Tami show!
Dylan's epic, historic, timeless original makes all covers pale in comparison...This simply turns it into a nice little pop tune

The guy with the tambo is Gene Clark. He's the lead singer on the first 2.5 albums. Great singer and great writer.
Just listen goddamit.
you're joking right? ;)
Imagine thinking the most important member is a nobody. Clueless

they all need a hair cut!
are you joking right?
hahaha
