  • Wickless Coil???!!?!?!? Yea I said wickless coil build. A man by the name of Kent Hill from "The Builder Bar" group on FB posted this build the other day and I didn't believe him so I do what all good builders do...I made one myself to test it. It works flawlessly!!!
    So here ya go the tutorial on what i consider a game changing build "The Wickless Coil"
    If you have any questions please let me know and i'll get to them as soon as I see them.
    If you like these video tutorials please subscribe to my channel to see many more i'll be doing every week along with some juice and device reviews. Thanks for watching and VAPE ON!

    PS: This is an advanced build that uses a very low sub ohm coil!!! Only use batteries that are rated for 30amps or above and have a way to test your build resistance before you fire it! PLEASE BE SAFE!

    Just made one with twisted 26g and a 28g wrap to test diy flavors and mixes. Had my doubts but managed to squeeze it into my Derringer clone. Came out to .34 ohm and works great. Gets hella hot on a mech so I'll be using it on my iStick 50w. Thanks Ray.

    didn't have the same size wire as you so i used 4 strands of 28 twisted and wrapped 1 strand 28 gauge around the twisted. 4 wraps micro coil .24 Ohm
    Game changer right here.

  • @Justin.Franks
    @Justin.Franks 9 років тому +1

    So I finally got around to trying this. I don't like to go as low as 0.24 ohms, so I used twisted 24 gauge wire wrapped with 30 gauge wire. Everything else was exactly the same as in this video -- coil diameter, number of wraps, and the same spacing for the wrap wire. It ended up measuring out to 0.45 ohms, and worked pretty well on my TOBH 2.5, but was nothing amazing.
    Overall, it's an interesting concept. I will definitely try it again. Next time I will wrap the outside wire a bit tighter (closer together), as that will increase surface area and will help wick just even more easily. Maybe next time will work better, but for now, I am sticking with my usual "boring" 2 mm, 0.7 ohm single coil built with 26 gauge wire. I've tried dozens of different builds, but keep coming back to that because it always works great.

    This reminded me a lot of the first 510 drip tip. It was the size of a cig butt. Inside was wire woven mesh. 3 drops in and vape till you almost get burnt or do get burnt. So on a small scale this idea has been around for a long time. Just not put on a deck. The old pencil ego battery with that on top. It had flavor that beat the atts of that time period. I'm not suggesting someone copied a design. The theory and idea was the start of dripping. I still have my old 510. I tried it recently and was choked by burnt.

    Didn't really like the idea of this coil at first, but when you brought of the part about dripping it at vape shops that kind of changed my mind on it. The vape shop I go to, all i do is drip to test out their flavors.
    I was there today and I only tried a few, but there was a couple where I couldnt even taste them whatsoever although they smelled really good, most likely because I had a cinnamon toast type flavor in there before and these were fruity flavors.
    Maybe I'll try one of these just for when I go to the shop

    • @raydlopez420
      @raydlopez420  8 років тому

      +Serrated Frost That's where a build like this works the best. I used to use this coil for my juice testing, and now the company I work for both the retail shops also use wickless coils for testers.

    • @giveitarub7215
      @giveitarub7215 8 років тому

      Ray Lo Vapes I wish my shop used those. But they only use shitty carto's for like over half of their lower quality flavors, and then mediocre RTA's that are usually flooded and just gargle like a son of a bitch and give you no good vape. So it sucks when they don't have a tester bottle left in a flavor i wanna try and just those things.
      But i feel like they wouldn't use that because RDA's typically give you a lot of bang for ur buck, and people would just cough like crazy, specially newbies. Unless they somehow made like high resistance wickless at a low watt so people dont die who arent used to it haha

    I have a question. I'm a newbie but I'm hooked on vaping. I love it. Got a Hana mod and a stingray. My question is when you unstranded the 28 off of the 2 legs , where exactly did you put the four wire? Did you put them into two posts? If so, why didn't you leave the 28 wrapped since it's going to the same post? Please clarify the connecting part. I love love love the video and of course the coil is insanely awesome. Your explanations are clear and concise. I believe there was a cut in the video. You were just about to make connections and next thing you were pulling them tight. I missed how to connect it. Please explain. Thanks. Big Fan Big Frank

    • @raydlopez420
      @raydlopez420  10 років тому

      I was having trouble pulling the twisted wire through the post holes so by unwrapping the legs it made it a bit smoother and easy to pull through. I unwrapped them to the start of the coil.

    Beautiful looking build! The problem with this kind of build is eventually it cooks the juice till it turns into a black sugar. At that point if you dont clean out your well often youre just wasting good juice. Just my experience building for people. Even a genesis will do the same over time. Great idea though!

    But I Still Watch your vids Anyway.
    You are the man that got me started winding coils. With 29 Gauge! When first searching for newbee build info I weeded thru the "stuff" till I found Your Stuff. Bookmarked!
    I have not sub-ohmed.(Yet!) Stay above 1.0. Have 28g 29g 30g and 32g. BuT, 29 gets burnt up the Most Still to This Day!(Ray Lo Knows) 32g? Hang pictures, fix the fence, clothesline, piano wire substitute for strangulati . . . . . . uh . . never mind . . Just those First Three Things. That is it's 3 uses For Me. Uh-Hu . . . .
    And Now you have Shown me yet Another very important aspect of coils.
    The Wickless Hybrid
    And it Definitely has it's place/purpose, just as you explained. But in the "Design Fits The Application" aspect, what Other coil type is more Appropriate for an ELickwid Sampling Buffet type situation?!? Why the One that Ray Lo Showed us how to build Rite Here, of course! ["Why excuse me Ma'am. May I Taste Your Juice?!?"(snobbish British accentish intendedish)] "Huh?"

    Cool coil man, got yourself a sub from it. How is this coil different performance wise from a clapton or an abyss? :D

    • @raydlopez420
      @raydlopez420  10 років тому

      Compared to the clapton this uses a twisted wire inside allowing for the liquid to wick up the twisted wire and the spaced out wire (similar to the clapton) hold the juice in the small pockets. Not sure if i've seen the abyss coil.

    • @raydlopez420
      @raydlopez420  10 років тому

      Pretty sure it's not possible due to the vacuum you need to make to draw enough juice to the wick. In this build it sits in the liquid.

  • @tonygould7282
    @tonygould7282 10 років тому

    Finally got tired of tasting other ways and found the wicking on this method does help over normal twisted or tiger wire.
    The 24 ga was too hot for my throat. Made with twisted 26 ga and a 28 wrapper. Seated in a Tugboat deck. Hard to position, but deep well and less splash burn (got a nice one on my arm) potential than most IGO. Air flow being open in the deck works well enough. Much faster than re-wick on macro coil for tasting.
    Only thing I noticed was a need for a fair amount of juice. Not nearly as much as saturated a wick and all that rot ofc.
    And to everyone: Safety Glasses really do work.

    I must have missed something (even though I watched it twice). I understand the unwinding of the 28g wire on the leads to make the leads fit in the hole. But you seem to make quite a point of straightening the wire out after unwinding it. But then as far as I can tell, you just cut it off after installing the coil in the atomizer. Does straightening the wire serve a purpose? If my holes are large enough, can I just trim it as is? Or must I unwind it?

    • @raydlopez420
      @raydlopez420  6 років тому

      This video was made a few years ago when all RDA's had tiny post holes. But if you have post holes that are wide enough to fit (Most should now a days) you can skip that step.

    NIce vid, appreciate the effort. Ultimately it's the same principle as a bridgeless 306/510. Seems like the creator of this recipe was in a bit of overkill-mode. 73-57 Watt vapes aren't for everyone, this should do better at a higher res? No?
    What's great about seeing other people's builds is feeding the inspiration to try your own new recipe. This one gives me some ideas.

  • @idkidkidkidkidkidki
    @idkidkidkidkidkidki 10 років тому

    Couldn't you do the same thing without have to twist the wire together? I'm guessing you can just build a nano coil ,leave long legs, and place them as close to the bottom as possible and do the same as a massive coil?

    • @raydlopez420
      @raydlopez420  10 років тому

      The reason the wire is twisted is to make a area for the juice to wick up on to it. It's similar to the SS wicks used in a Genesis style RBA. The 28g wrapped around it gives the juice a stopper to hold juice in the sections better. A basic nano in a pocket of juice wont get juice to the top of the coil nor will it hold juice like this does so you'll get hot spots much quicker.

      mr nice guy Your Samsung battery has an amp limit of 5.2 amps. I have the same one and it took me about an hour to finally find any info on it other than its a 2600 mAh 18650. I would not build any kind of sub ohm on it considering at .8 ohm it is already over its max discharge capacity. Get a VTC4 or 5 by Sony. Stay safe and vape on.

    i cant see this being good for your rda...the coils are constantly glowing due to the lack of a wet wick, but neat regardless.

    *WARNING*
    twisting AND clipping wire people should be aware of potential eye injury.
    get a small piece of wire fly into your eye from clipping or as this vid shows, a snapping twist and its the rest of your life with 1 eye.
    peeps wear eye protection or if you have glasses, put em.

      On a mechanical mod? You will not get that to fire on a regulated mod unless its one of the new 100+watt mods, as the amp draw will be too high for the device.
      If the wire is not getting hot, you are probably shorted against the body of your atty, or your screws came lose. Sometimes a loose connection can arch and deposit a layer of oxide meaning tightening down the screws may not help, in that case, back the screw out wiggle the leg in the post hole, then tighten the screw down really snug, and it should make good connection again.

    Doing wickless coils are generally a bad idea instead of vaporising the juice you are boiling it and when you boil the juice you get different chemical compounds then you do when you vaporise the juice with a cotton wick.

    Edit this and add that maybe its a good idea to wear eye protection when twisting wire

    • @raydlopez420
      @raydlopez420  10 років тому

      If that is the case then you should wear eye protection when cutting the wire as well....or when firing any coil due to splatter. Or wear non puncture gloves since the wire is sharp. It's really up to the builder if they want to wear safety gear when building coils. I personally never do.

      The real question is "Why not?" This allows for full flavor and instant flavor changing when testing out multiple flavors. But with all trick builds it's not necessary but this is for builders who like to try out new cool builds.
