I love how she now uses a blend of full and head voice to get a more airy sound when she goes into her upper register... It's a technique that Mariah Carey uses to very full effect and makes the voice sound like sheer magic!! That's right, work it out, Ms. Franklin!! The feeling still there just like always...

My wife is 8 months pregnant and as she was driving today, she got involved in a terrible head collision accident. Her car was pushed away 15 metres away while she was inside. I thank God she survived and the baby is okay. God is great. 🙏🙏

When did it become okay to attack a legendary woman, 5 months shy of being 73-years old, who almost died last year and then triumphed over her illness enough to put out an album out that gave her the 100th R&B hit (4th all-time), the most of any other woman? No, Aretha does not sing as she did 35 years ago, but then who does? She has more musicality and expression in one tine of her queenly tiara than most singers have in their entire bodies and souls. Save the attacks for people who truly CAN'T sing. The Billboard charts are loaded with them.

Thank you! I was going to make a comment on that but you said it all. As long as she's been in the game most singers on the radio wouldn't be able to sing next to her without making a fool of themselves. It's one thing to not like her song but to say she needs to "hang it up" or that is was "bad" is just ridiculous.

I believe Aretha was held back in her early years. There was no way half these songs would have been allowed for Aretha to sing. They would have been given to a man to sing. One of the worst song choices I heard a talent sing was Born to Be Wild performed by Etta James. That was just painful in a sub par Britney spears kind of way. I don't believe Aretha is doing that poorly on this record.
I agree that her scatting is an awesome addition to this great soul anthem.
It's like the Beatles once said: those kinds of covers aren't rip-ofs but love-ins, showing your respect for the original artist by giving it your best.

Starts smoothly with a swinging beat and it makes you think it will go on easy like this and then... the mood shifts, the tempo is faster , until the unexpected break and lines from Survivor, delivered very aggressively... and you wonder how can one song pack so many different points of view, so many emotions..; and then you remember this is Aretha. Only she manages to create cohesion from chaos. That is what life is all about. BRAVA DIVA!

Aretha Franklin is 72 years old, so I expected many of you to listen with a preconceived judgement. You were already prepared to insult her; be honest. So, you claim she's using auto-tune. I recently watched a recent interview of her, and she talked negatively about it. She doesn't use it. Aretha has a unique tone, and her voice has a raspiness to it. Plus, she uses vibrato in certain parts of the songs, especially when she's holding notes. That's probably what you're hearing. Brandy is another example of that unique tone. Some of you need to stay in the UA-cam lane and leave technicalities to the musicians because many of you sound foolish!!!!!! Thanks

The thing is Aretha is KING with capital letters, there's no doubt about it, and hearing her singing at this age only adds to a big R.E.S.P.E.C.T., but this definitely is just an expendable collection of dreadfully arranged popular songs that exist in far better version elsewhere (well, some of them).
Aretha used to re-write some of the tracks' history completely anew and to amazing effect, but this one for example, at best sounds like a dated house copy of Sylvester. The "Survivor" drop-in is downright unnecessary and definitely a sad example of gold bowing down before plastic.

Sure beats "Glee"'s attempt to mash "I Will Survive" and "Survivor" together.
It's the exact same mashup, minus the change in beat to make it jazzier. She has covered the Glee version, and done a great job of it.
Sorry, but The Troubletones (Naya Rivera, Amber Riley and Heather Morris from Glee) slayed.

There are a lot of comments about how old she is. But she's ageless. A voice and rendition like this is spectacular for any age. She's like fine vine. She started out as great and went on to become one of the greatest of all times. Much R-E-S-P-E-C-T .
This voice is marvelous. Not just because it is, but also because even if it wasn't beautiful, it would still encapsulate so much history, so much of the past music. Aretha, you're a legend.

The beginning of the song is nice. The smooth tempo and beat is sick, the change up kinda thru me off but it Aretha she can do that. Its a song that has to catch you but once it do you'll listen to it over and over.
