  • The following is the first 13 minutes of a complete episode of The Stardust Sports Line I recorded on August 13, 1984 as heard live on KDWN-AM from the sports book of the Stardust Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas Nevada. It is hosted by Lee Pete and Jim Brown.
For five years, I recorded radio commercials from the airwaves of KDWN from my grandmother's house in Pismo Beach, CA....and some of which you can hear on my UA-cam accounts. One night, I decided to record an entire show just for the hell of it. Lee Pete was a good host to these live shows and I was lucky to check out the live broadcasts for myself during a couple of Vegas trips in the past.
During this period of the show, Jim Brown was a co-host for awhile. They even did a few shows from the Castaways!
I suspect this was one of the final KDWN-AM tapes I recorded as the station's format was wondering far away from the music and well into talk radio...and the commercials weren't interesting anymore.
Last I heard about Lee was that he moved back to his hometown of Toledo, Ohio and left us in 2010 from complications from ALS. Therefore, I dedicate this here posting to Lee. You were a fine radio host and a swell guy! You will be missed!
UPDATE 2016: I just re-uploaded this entire show on the Internet Archive at archive.org/de.... Listen, download and enjoy today!!

It's pretty sad to think that now Jim Brown and Lee Pete are both no longer with us. Listening to this show reminds me of a simpler time in the world. Appreciate the fact you posted this as a hearing Lees voice reminds me of my youth.

Brought back a lot of memories. Thanks for the clip. My favorite part is when they would give their opinion on every single game of the college football rotation on Friday nights. Then do the same thing Saturday for the NFL. Lee Pete is the man!

I remember listening to the Stardust Line during my nightly drive to my first casino dealing job downtown Las Vegas at the fabulous Golden Gate Hotel & Casino in 1984 .

I accidentally found this show on my radio when i was a teen in the 80s and would fall asleep every night to Lee Petes voice. Only able to pick up the broadcast at night time which was ok by me because i lived in the northern California area, good ol days right there with Donnie Bater (sp).

I called the Lee Pete show about mid 80s and was on hold for at least an hour. Then they put me on but I had almost fallen asleep. After I had finished asking my question Lee said “that guy sounded like he was talking in his sleep”.

OMG ! Memories, Memories, Memories. I learned everything there is to know from this show about betting college football ! Let me remember...Lee Peete, Donny Baiter, Roxy Roxborugh, Lenny Del Genio, Dave Cokin, Lem Banker, ....I never missed it. Interesting and funny personalities with takes on the games you could NEVER get anywhere else, It was AWESOME ! I left Vegas in 2004 and it was one of the biggest things I missed, I listened every single night for almost 20 years. It brings back so many memories of Vegas in the mid to late 80s. To be young again......

Can't believe they knocked down The Stardust for that eyesore. I saw the Vegas Line live a few times on my trips in the 90's. Vegas was so much better before.

I remember Jim would always marvel at the running of Eric Dickerson but from time to time he would question his heart.

I was a regular listener (SF Bay Area) to the Stardust Sports line. Was Lee's program on 7 days a week? Art Bells program followed Lee's show. Thanks for sharing this clip.

Lee did m-f 10 to midnight and this Stardust show on Saturday night. I thought Art Bell followed that wack job Roy Masters who followed Lee Peete. Roy Masters incredibly is STILL on the air while the great Lee Peete long gone. Masters began around 1961 when I was a year old.

The Stardust Sports Line on KDWN out of Las Vegas was one of the best ever shows in my time. Jim Brown was featured for years. Lee Pete was a must if you liked sports, gaming, and beyond. The Stardust was their base.

Lee Pete sure loved the Detroit Tigers. I remember when they won their last world series title (I think it was in the 1980s) and he was ecstatic !!
He was also highly complementary of Fresno State's basketball program when they and UNLV had a big rivalry in the 80s. He said once that FSU coach Boyd Grant looked like an algebra teacher he once had.

Remember Donnie and his free throws?
Where can I get a copy?

I remember a caller would always mention Rick Honeycutt when he pitched for the Rangers.....
Lee would say "don't they have any other pitchers on the staff or does Honeycutt pitch every game"......
