The Wacky World of Fire Emblem Ads

- Fire Emblem hasn't had the most stable track record in terms of advertising. The result. Some very obscure advertisements.
Thanks to DifferentFight ( / warescap ) for translating the ads for me!

Trust nobody, in a game where you trust and recruit almost every enemy who is conventionally attractive. Definitely the best part of the FE7 ad right there.
Prince Marf well the add got true with fates since the writers apparently really loved bettayal arcs there😂
Big mood.
My argument: Gonzalez
Still, I think a legitimate betrayal mechanic in the game where certain characters betray you depending on dialgoue and decisions you make would be pretty cool.
So... Jill Fizzart, but as a game mechanic?
I totally lost it when I heard Dorcas say: "Trust no one!" in Heroes.
Chas Gulley He was still salty about his mutton being poisoned
Trust nobody
3:36 - What you all came here to see.
Or maybe 8:03 for the great pugi?
If no man can be trusted, how do we know if we should click that link or not?
Accurate
Rezzy maybe he put the same poison that was in Dorcas’s Mutton
actually i dont get that ad on my place so nope lol
I make sure to have a live opera playing behind me when I play FE
Jared Everett yeah Berkut, we noticed.
Trust nobody
A moment of silence for those we've lost to the world of Fire Emblem advertising.
Dorcas
Heath
Zihark
Gone but not forgotton. RIP
Thracia's ad is clearly a reference to the tortures children have to endure by the hand of the Loptyr sect. Duh!
Narlaw1199 lmao
Lol
What are you talking about?
Those kids are crying because the RNG in Thracia screwed them over again!
Bullwine85 lmao
just hope they remade tharcia without the phoenix difficulty and no perma death mode from newer title shenanigan XD
Trust nobody
@@RePhantomz casual would be in a remake.
@@RePhantomzthere’s nothing wrong with giving people the choice of playing with or without permanent death.
Would buy the board game.
Me too.
I can imagine Robin and Chrom planning out their advances on that board, trying to figure out how the Altean Hero-King won in the past.
Nombre Apellido what if *Chrom meets Roy* Chrom: that blade... I've heard it was all a *MYTH*, but... Is that the Binding Blade?
I would love if you could somehow use amiibo on it to retain stats of each unit
+Argo Leaf
SIKE! No pieces included with the board game. You must buy the amiibo of each of the 30 different characters!
Mangs tried to analyse what really happened to Dorcas you know.
arcturus64 And a beautiful analysis it is
Pavise Productions
Ehehehe...
Just an amateur tactician. He still got a lot to learn.
But if you can’t trust anyone, how can you trust Mangs’ theory?
+J Dawg 25o
You are at least right on point.
The most effective ad for Fire Emblem is Fire Emblem Heroes. They made a free, reasonably fun game, and slipped in enough characterization and customization to let players grow attached to their heroes...but not enough to fulfill your needs, forcing you to either get the old games or do without. (Or go to the game's TV Tropes page or wiki, but who wants to read that stuff?)
Timothy McLean
...I like reading TV Tropes pages...
*mentions TV Tropes*
You fool! What have you done?!
*+Timothy McLean* *"Or go to the game's TV Tropes page or wiki, but who wants to read that stuff?"*
Me!.
It's a double edged sword. While I agree it's a nice way to get people interested in the characters. It also screws some. Lachesis and Arden are my favorite examples.
Lachesis has "loli" art and Heroes emphasizes her love for her brother too much, compared to her home game. On top of being a staff unit instead of a sword unit.
Arden has it the worst in my opinion. Yes, it's a gag/meme he's a terrible unit and it ties in with his lore. However, it's ridiculous how much of a joke they made him. A lot of people like Benny from Fates, who Arden basically is. Everyone is afraid of Benny but he's actually kind. Arden is designed to be more "ugly", a mediocre soldier in universe compared to the other characters, and bullied by a handful of the cast because of it. Regardless, he's still nice. Heroes made him into "lol I'm so slow wait for me! XD", which is really an insult.
Another would also be Caeda. When people look her up, they'll probably stumble upon her being a "thot", when really she isn't. Despite many people point out how she isn't, people still believe it because of *one* recruitment where she intentionally deceives a person.
spoiler emblem...! heroes
And in 2016, The Opera of Light became the famous (or infamous) Drama's Light Cutscene in Tokyo Mirage Sessions.
Also even though it wasn't technically a commercial, the FE heroes live action trailer for the brave heroes and the black knight was cool despite some inaccuracies (Lyn's hair is orange?)
Foolishly Foolish Fool See I was pretty cool with the hair, the costumes were neat. I was upset at BKs armour though, shit looked like a low budget super sentai costume. (And SS has some badass costumes) Overall I was hype as fuck for that commercial, it was really fucking good. Showed the backstory of the characters in like 5 seconds, with a BA song, charging into a battle.
Seeing the FE 11 ad makes me wonder if there actually was a figure-based board game or maybe a specific D&D set-up officially made for the series. The idea of Fire Emblem being adapted with its mechanics to either would probably make for great adaptation material.
I want that board game so bad...
Glad I could help out with the video! Hope my translations were good enough to at least understand the context of these ads hahah
True the game itself is pretty boring. The only thing keeping it alive is the characters from all the games
I think my favourite that you showed is definitely the FE11 ad. That one in my mind is hands down the best, though this is coming from someone who enjoys chess so that may be part of why.
What's neat is how there's even official artwork by Mayo based on the opera commercial. It's truly a beautiful piece of Fire Emblemian culture.
"Fire Emblem, tough simulation
When you'll begin playing it, you won't be able to sleep anymore..."
*Insert Dorcas undying meme*
aww no PoR commercial?
a fire emblem board game would be great for the series.
for a simple concept: start it like chess, but give each unit hit HP/atk/def/res, & 50% hit.
I saw dorcas and clicked asap.
Honestly the Shadow dragon chess piece commercial is the only one that I can see making someone buy the game, if I saw any of those other ads and didn't know much about Fire Emblem I'd be completely uninterested.
saifors Sometimes it worked, Final Fantasy 7 was the first RPG I ever played when it first came out and I got it because I saw the commercial that showed nothing but ingame cutscenes like the motocycle and Sephiroth surrounded in flames, thought it was an action game....and was like WTF, but it started increasing my interested as I only fully got in after beating FF 8...without saving in one playthrough with noob knowldege to turn based, I didnt have a memory card at that point and barely knew how junction worked so never used...I won on impatienance and blind luck 15 and older me can't use dumb luck anymore being more cautious now and not "Rush, Rush, Rush" and I had to restart once cause my mother forced me to cut it off to visit my grandmother
I'll say what he said about kids and Tharcia was funny seeing how that and Genealogy were pretty dark in tone, and Tharcia wasn't newbie friendly like Radiant Dawn was. The two FE you don't play as your first introduction, RD story suffered from it's story trying to have it's cake and eat it by trying to act like a stand alone, but in the end, apmost all the new characters were meaningless in the grand scheme of things like FE3/12 new characters compared to old Kris group only having the advantage of Earlier available, mostly the Cavaliers what with Abel suffering near "Est Level" availability, that unlike Shadow Dragon its no contest you'll be using Cain over him and New Mystery as stated made it worse with the stated two Cavaliers and Kris if you picked such, hell I think New Mystery made it worse for the new characters from original Mystery
The chess piece commercial really represented the gameplay perfectly, and might win over those who love analysis and puzzles. Although, the emotional Radiant Dawn commercial portrays how your journey through the game would be like, and might gain attention from people who like stories and characters to become attached to. :)
But... but...
WHAT HAPPENED TO DORCAS?
The opera would have sold me, tbh.
Roses are red,
You've succumbed to the memes,
Nobody knows how to make FE
Look cool, it seems.
It's a tactical game which derives engagement from careful planning and character development. How do you show that in 30 seconds?
"Opera" wouldn't be my first answer, but I can't think of anything better...
Simple. Two ways: Opera, and Memes.
Memes is cheaper. And more popular rn.
It sums up the COMMUNITY better than the GAMES, however.
That's effectively 'focusing on the story aspect rather than the game itself'. Which is far easier to do than make the gameplay itself look interesting beyond showing the combat animations. I mean, you're usually got a big war plot, kingdoms rising and falling, and leading a rag-tag resistance to eventually take your home back.
There's plenty of ad material there, even if you're avoiding any major spoilers. However, you also need to make a modicum of effort, and most don't.
The FE game informer ads were cool
not anymore
That chessboard game kinda made me want a Fire Emblem board game, I can imagine it being like a DnD esque game where one player is controls the enemy army while the other players form an militia and one player controls the Lord of the team.
I remember once seeing a commercial for awakening with the tagline of "the choices you make here will last for a lifetime." Which is ironic, considering that in the actual game none of the "choices" it gives you change anything.
MegaIgnitor Maybe it refers to how you play the game because if one unit not being the main character of course dies they will stay dead forever so it does last a lifetime? Maybe they should work on the the wording better like "Be careful on how you play your cards" or "Do not make a single mistake"
I love your content, seriously. This is so interesting! Fun fact, the girl who appears in the Japanese ad for FE7 is a pretty famous actress in Japan, I’ve seen her in a couple of jdramas in the past :) Ahaha and what’s wrong with the Thracia one? That was hilarious!
_Oh gods, Zerk was right_
*Awakening's advertising saved the series*
Argo Leaf
I stand corrected.
What about the Awakening/ Fates/Echoes ads? They might be as weird but they still deserve to analyzed
7:42 THIS WAS AN AD FOR THREE HOUSES THIS WHOLE TIME
I feel like the whole "Trust no one" ad was ill-suited for a series of games where you can recruit people from enemy ranks... but DORCAS'S MUTTON
Take a teaspoon of Nutella everytime you here "FIYAH EMBUREM!!!!"
I'm on a sugar rush now
If I would do that I would probably choke!
I got diabetes, thanks
Me playing fire emblem:
What happened to the time?
Also me playing fire emblem:
Just one more map AAA NO MIST
No mention of the wacky live-action ad for Black Knight's event in Fire Emblem Heroes tho??????
I can't understand how Dorcas is losing the voting gauntlet right now
I was sure Dorcas would win. At least it was rather close.
cause sigurd is the best lord
Eh, I guess Sigurd deserves it. Poor guy got roasted right after suffering a heartbreak.
Sigurd love for his wife is undying
Fun fact:
One of the comercials for FE Awakening in Japan included CG images from the S rank confession quotes and by the time the development team realized what the marketing team had done they were angry and asking "Did you really included that in the comercial? What were you thinking?" But this eventually worked to their advantage.
To think that one of the reasons the franchise was saved was because the marketing team got a little carried away.
FyrFlyr Why was that a bad thing? Were they supposed to be a secret?
P. Za
Not really, they just didn't want the public to think that Awakening was a strategy game mixed with a dating simulator wich (in a away) it kinda is. Again, this worked out for them.
Gosh if you think that FE5 ad is wacky, there are plenty of Japanese advertisements would give grown men nightmares.
Stay away from the Japanese internet. Even from certain areas of Nico Nico.
迷ったら死んじゃうよwwww
shadowofchaos725 lmao
Yes, because seeing a classroom of crying kids doing gymnastics makes me REALLY excited to play Fire Emblem.
@@jamest9108 i was really devastated, when i found out fire emblem wasn't about teaching crying children how to do gymnastics
Seeing the board game ad makes me now want a board game version.
I seen your channel before but never watched your videos before and today is where I stumbled apon your channel and watch lots of ur vids and LOVED IT!
Where's the option to sub twice?
I’m convinced that Japanese marketing teams all liberally indulge themselves in drugs and booze while having brainstorming sessions.
TRUST NOBODY
Whoever was playing in the shadow dragon ad may have made a big mistake. If that cavalier was strong enough to deal a lot of damage to the knight, Merric should’ve attacked first. Otherwise, the green haired cavalier (Probably Abel, unless they changed a different green haired unit into a cavalier) probably shouldn’t have attacked, as they’re vunerable. Letting the knight take the hits could go a lot better. Either that or they’re killing most enemies with those 2 units, in which case they should probably let the other units get more kills. (Don’t copy the strategy in that ad I guess?)
Dang, I really want those figurines from the Japanese Shadow Dragon ad…
the thracia 776 commercial is a literal shitpost
That operatic theme has been around from the very beginning?
Neat.
thracia's difficulty is still more wacky than the commercial itself
the shot fucking flaming arrows! are they insane!? xD
Is it me or the FE1 opera looks like smash brawl's remix of the main theme ?
The opera is so iconic it even has a special cipher card for it.
Also I think the Dork-ass jokes have even gotten to Japan, as there were some comments about it on the Nico version of his reveal in Heroes.
IMO, I also feel like the Gaiden ad also deserves an honorable mention, given the shockingly perfect casting for Sir Mycen. Alm though just looks like Joffrey which is weird.
What the helll was that one where the pro sings 😂😂😂
Dorcas in Fire Emblem: Heroes:
“How’s my health? Well, I had some bad mutton earlier, but I feel fine otherwise.”
Plus, one of his other voice line when you select him to act during battle I think references his commercial. He’ll say “Trust nobody”.
Official FE tabletop RPG/wargame when Nintendo? You started off making card and tabletop games, and now you have the perfect opportunity to capitalize on both your past and the series’s popularity
The Dorcus line eluded for so long because I never played that FE he was in. But seeing the commercial really had me dying of laughter and now every meme of his creation and his line from FE:Heroes is flooding my mind preventing me to stop laughing.
Dorcas I the first unit I lost and didn’t reset the game over. It just felt right, although it was rather unfortunate as the battle was all but won at that point.
*_WUT HAPYNED TUH DORKASS_*
As a wargaming enthusiast I'd really root for a fire emblem inspired boardgame. Being able to build, paint and field Marth, Jagen or even a generic wivern knight would make the player feel so much connected with the unit that the depiction of the player in some of those ads about "building a story with your allies" would even be realistic.
4:20 Weird I never knew that was a thing. Thought people just liked Dorcas for some reason.
So thats where the fire emblem national anthem came from...
The FF7 ad made me think Dorcas would have a plot-related death so I never used him.
Turns out it was actually a good thing because Dorcas is bad.
He is better than Bartre at least if you want to use one of the fighters
6:05 - "He died like a true knight"
2:21 Why is Bors fighting a Manakete? This isn't Spoon_Rhythm's playthough
Why did they avertise a game that’s plot is muduring 7 year olds to 7 year olds
The Dragon Girl 27
Laughed harder than I should have at that... then laughed more when I looked at your profile pic closely.
J Dawg 25o LEIF-EON IS OUR GOD LORD AND SAVIOR
The Dragon Girl 27
Nah that’s Jesus but Leifeon would have my vote as president 2012.
J Dawg 25o LEIFEON IS GOD OF GODLY GODNESS
IM LOSING MY MIND AT THE THRACIA ONE?!?!??!?! WHO THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA
There was a really nice Japanese ad where Marth and his posse walk out of a storybook as paper cut-outs . Surreal but cool.
Never forget the time they advertised Sacred Stones by mentioning it in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Wow.
Looking at all of these, the live action ad for Gaiden (featuring a Blonde Alm and wyverns, no less!) is really tame by comparison.
The first ad reminds me so much of that Japanese Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past commercial.
The FE11 “Board Game” one has made me create a Fire Emblem tabletop wargame ruleset in the style of Warhammer and others
Once again you come out with some really interesting and unique content!
It's no wonder Fire Emblem has had trouble getting off the ground. Half these advertisements don't really convey what the game even is, the other are just dull (That Radiant Dawn one tho, like sure it's accurate, but its not engaging for an advertisement)
Some are neat though, that board game one reminds me of Heroscape, which I loved as a kid, so I would have happily bought a game if that was a more common ad.
I LOVE the opera ads of 1990 and 2002!
The second one gave me chills. It was so much like the goofy American commericals of that time, and the nostalgia hit me physically. The third one just made me lmao
The Fire Emblem opera was brought back to Tokyo Mirage Sessions.
2:19 Bors in the ad?
To and to the lawson and remember how much they tell you about the child hunts in game.
I like how they reused the Oprah theme was reused that much
The geanology ad was probably my fav next to heroes
If you really do think about it though the Fire Emblem series is just a much more stressful chess (mostly cause of crits or dodging)
The opera ads will haunt me forever...
What is the name of the song at 4:39 and what are the lyrics saying?
-It sounds like something you would place at the end of a visual novel, but y-
Gotta say, I hate how when they did the theme for heroes, it didn't have the original lyrics.
Next voting gauntlet should include Dorcas and mutton.
7:11 music?
The cover or the OST?
there's the gaiden ad too
I mean, I dont blame them for not knowing how to advertise the series. I cant think of a good, non ironic way
I hope they bring the opera for a future game
Dorcas uber alles
Why did it have to be heath I love that guy's design never really got to use him though since he is late.
“What happened to Dorcas?”
"what happened to dorcas "
i want those figures
The Thracia 776 one is so confusing....
What???
finally a more original vid that's worth watching unlike that last one
Holy crap! I don't remember that killing edge myrmydon being that powerful!
Elemental Origin
The RNG in the GBA games makes the Myrmiddons there quite as deadly.
The drums of war are beating No man can be trusted.
What happened to Dorcas!?
I put poison in his mutton.
HUAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Build an army, trust nobody
Fire emblem
I really want to own those fe11 board game figures, they look cool
What's the nice calm music at the very end of this video? Thanks in advance!
The Dorcas ad would fit more for a game like Crusader Kings where you can actually plot to murder people XD
how did that lady make zihark die????/
What I'm wondering is how the hell did that myrmidon do 17 damage to Zihark. He'd need 30 attack to do that much which means that the myrm had 22 attack (with the +8 from the killing edge). Looks like they nerfed Zihark's defense to practically zero for the commercial, which at that point why not use actually good death fodder like Meg or Leonardo
Because the actress would not actually care about the deaths. You need to use good characters. If meg or leo died, no one would give a shit
Opera: What the actual fuck
Well with fate and three houses IS finally got it right
Its kinda funny since the channel GreenScorpion made the mistakr of losing Dorcas in his Gameplay. Itt was sad
