I was watching the age of samurai on Netflix. And it hit me like a ton of bricks black clover does have a lot of Japanese parallels. For one asta has a 5 leaf Clover grimoire. You know who else had a 5 leaf clover as their symbol? Oba Nobunaga. Also he was betrayed by one of his top generals before he could unify Japan. The wizard king was betrayed and killed before he could unify the clover Kingdom. By one of his top captains nonetheless. That was just a few of the things. I really can't recommend enough you watching black clover enough.

Add that to the fact that your getting them from what looks like an embassy, as he points out, and the theory that the starters both represent the military government of Japan at the time (heavily romanticized, though of note there were plenty of Samurai who sided WITH the Meiji government and served as commanders and officers in the imperial army) and the major powers at play in the area (Kingdom of Hawaii, the US, and Southern Japan) fits pretty well.

Otters have an interesting place in different mythologies. While the Otter in Japan, and more likely the cultural tales of the Ainu (Probably why the Otter is called Ainu in the Element Encyclopedia of Magical Creatures by John and Caitlin Matthews), the Otter is classified as a trickster when it's not being a goofball or disguised to be something more horrific but the Otter is classified very differently in Irish lore, there it is a nearly indestructible warrior that has a single weak point located just beneath one of its arms. At least, that's what my research has yielded, and I think Gaijin Goombah should absolutely pick up that book (if he already hasn't), not only will it have some mythological Japanese creatures and statements about animals and their placement in Japanese lore (which he may or may not know), it also has sections on monsters and creatures from various other cultures, which includes beliefs about certain animals.

One thing I would like to note is that people are saying that making the first Pokedex is a retcon because "Oak made the first Pokedex in Red/Green/Blue/Yellow"
But this isn't the case: he made the first ELECTRONIC Pokedex: as stated when he gives it to you. Before then, everyone had to manually write everything down. Same thing with Pokeballs: the modern Pokeball as we see it in games is something that only came into being within the last 50 years, with many older Pokemon trainers such as Dreydan of the Unova region and Kurt of the Johto region stating that before then people either had to use apriballs (which would take an entire day to make a handful of balls using modern techniques and technology, and only one at a time if that artisan didnt have an assistant to help them, so just imagine how long it would take before people had all the modern gizmos of modern-era Pokemon) or they had to literally duke it out, Human v Pokemon, to win that Pokemon's trust and have it willing follow them in a sort of Student-Sensei martial artist relationship. Dreydan only put his Pokemon in Pokeballs a few years prior to the events of Black and white, implying that Unova didnt even have access to modern Pokeballs until fairly recently as they did not have a company that produces them like they do in Kanto, Hoenn, and Kalos until the Battle Company was founded in Castellia to produce them and other battle items for trainer consumption. As someone who absolutely adores finding all the hidden lore and history of the Pokemon world, I am _VERY_ excited for Legends.

I believe SWSH were the prototype for this. The wild area is basically a miniature version of an open-world Pokémon game, and the DLCs doubled down on that. The main complaint I've seen about that concept was that it felt too small and cramped - which is exactly the issue you want to have if you plan to go bigger.
I'm cautiously optimistic about it. The only things they could really screw up with this concept is to make it too linear or too boring/empty. Despite the many jokes about the similar look, I think they can't go wrong by leaning heavily on Breath of the Wild - it's "play your way" gameplay style is a great way to set up an open world game (and BotW's success shows it). Allow the player to choose how and at what pace they explore the main story you lay out, and allow them to either focus it down or explore the corners of the world first, with bits of worldbuilding all around, until they finally come back to it.

I wasn't thinking they were ninjas ever. I thought this video was going to, say, debunk Lockstin's video on it being late 19th century Japan rather than Feudal Japan. Not about something I've never heard about before. The mistake that they're being called ninja.

I can't be the first person to notice, but I just recently finished the main story, and (spoilers?) the story you told about Typhlosion (13:47) rings very similar to the main story's final conflict. A steadily growing storm (the time-space rift present throughout the whole game) coming from the top of a volcano (Mt. Coronet,) which consumed the region (the whole red sky deal) until the benevolent gods (the deity of whichever village's leader you choose to travel with) defeat the angered evil ones. (when the legendary in your possession agrees to "help" you defeat the other one, despite them not actually doing anything)
and I can't help being a little sus of the shape of that lake at 13:57, considering where we find Uxie, Azelf, and the pink one.

A good thing to keep in mind: The pokemon timeline doesn't match one-to-one with ours. It's directly proven that with Unova alone, not to mention the fact they had advanced civilization with tech, castles, kingdoms, and so on, 5000 years ago in the pokemon world.
Yes. it may be based on all this. but it's incredibly likely that it doesn't take place at that exact time.
The anime and manga are also different canons, just as a side note, which is shown by various parts of the games- even Legends- often contradicting them.

Typhlosion's Japanese name バクフーン(Bakufuun) actually comes from 爆風(ばくふう(bakufuu)) which is the blast of air caused by explosions
In fact they both basically use the same set of words put together
    Typhoon + Explosion = Typhlosion
    爆風(bakufuu) + タイフーン(typhoon) = バクフーン

Yeah I can see why people would think that but really I've never known ninja to wear boots like that unless it wasn't for winter and even then, they're likely at home not on mission. But anyway, it's nice to see more of the Ainu influences since they're not well known outside of mainstream Japan culture media.

I still think Legends will have some kind of Colonists VS Natives theme. Sinnoh, for those of you who don't remember I know it's been a while since Platinum, has ancient ruins (which could potentially pre-date when Legends takes place) and several Pokemon that would imply human involvement (as in Pokemon made by humans or that are byproducts of humans). For locations, there's the Solaceon Town (there's even been ideas that the town shown in the Legends trailer is Solaceon Town; as in DPP it's described as a town that started out as just a road) and the Solaceon Ruins, Celestic Town, the Lost Tower, Snowpoint Temple, Spear Pillar, etc. For Pokemon, there's Spiritomb, Bronzor and Bronzong, the Regis and Regigas, and Unown (I was conflicted about putting Pokemon like the Magnemite line, Rotom, and the Porygon line here; mostly because I'm not sure whether they've been I guess invented yet). Even the games' in-game lore says humans have lived in Sinnoh since its creation. I also think it's kind of odd that we've just seen the one town and nothing else other than the wilds, like maybe they're saving that kind of world or story reveal for later.
