Excellent! I had your video sitting in front of me when I replaced the spring housings and wouldn't have had a hope of working it out otherwise. Job done in 5 minutes. Thank you.
I ordered the replacement springs a year ago. But misplaced them. So had to order again. Hoped the originals would show up but atlas not so far. It's nice and hot here now and time to get the freezer door fixed. I must have watched a dozen of these or so it seems on how to do it. Most say do it when it's warm not freezing out. It doesn't look that difficult. Just a little bit fussy and of course you want to avoid breaking the new spring hinges while doing it. I would think after 20 plus years with this same problem with the same style of drawers across numerous models Domestic would have redesigned the hinges not to break so easily. Such is life I get to learn something new. Thank you for your very quick and to the point video today for my refreshing course on how to do it.
What a great post. You got me out of a huge dilemma. I would have never figured out how to replace the freezer door without your help. Bless you and everyone else who takes time to provide valuable info to people like me
Lee Bradley - YOU are my new hero! I recently installed new springs and housings in the refrigerator on our catamaran and I never would have figured it out in a million years if it was not for your video. I watched the video before, during and after the job and it went great. I would come by and shake your hand but I'm in Goodland Florida, USA something like 15, 000 KM away. Thanks again for a great service.
I thought I was mechanically inclined. I took this apart, I can put it back together. I did, and the freezer door just kept falling right back down. I took apart and put back together about 6x. Finally I came in the house looking for a video. Thank you sir, your trick worked well!!
Thank you, Lee, for your clear and accurate step-by-step instructions. Your technique worked like a charm. I had puzzled (and lost a little sleep) over how to get enough spring tension when installing the new door I purchased after the last one broke in place during a routine door opening. No instructions came with the new door, of course. Fortunately, I found found your extremely helpful video through a quick Google search. Bless you.
And, I will add, the explanation of the "left" and "right" side spring mechanism was very valuable as well. Nevertheless, I either lack the strength, or the wish to bust the plastic hinge, so I was forced to loosen the screws on the right side to finesse it together and then screw it it in underneath with the smallest phillips screw driver one can find because the racks do not come out. Thank you Lee Bradley.
Good Job Lee!!...bought a 2nd hand Jayco Expanda which needed some grime removed out of the freezer door seal..thought Id impress the wife and remove the door to do it.....buggerred if i could get it back on..( AND,as if I would tell her that!! )..but thanks to you, Im the man!!....well, with a little help from you!! THANKS MATE!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH. Purchasing the hinge gives no clue to this procedure. I was dumbfounded about why my door was "lazy" and/or how one restores the spring back to the freezer door. Thank you. Lake Tahoe John.
SO glad I watched this before attempting spring replacement. Sad that Dometic charged me $100 (included shipping) for these 2 little springs but I couldno find them anywhere else.
Excellent. This helped very much. I broke one of the housing brackets on first attempt. Replacement price was ridicules .- over $30 for a simple piece of plastic and had to shop for it. One dealer was going to order it in for over $60 which rather leads to duck tape. Learned my lesson and applied a little dish soap to help it slide in better. I suspect I did not slide forward the housing bracket enough when removing and may have damaged the plastic pin. There is a groove on it and one has to be careful. When moving back in it failed and snapped off. Perhaps a 3D printer application in future for parts like this one.
Lee, I can't thank you enough! I never could've figured this out. Any chance you can show us how to replace the gaskets on the frig and/or freezer doors?
Great instructions but I have a problemI took off the bottom hinge thingy from the door when I took the door off and duh lost itOrdered right and left spring like in this video but can't find the part I lost and don't know what it is calledCan you advice me????
The spring housings go for $30 each without the spring. The part on the door is $20. Dometic really takes advantage of its customers. I used my camper 5 times and now a $100 repair bill for Chinese made junk.
The hinges are junk. They are so poorly designed I consider them to be a scam. $100 to fix the door and it lasted one camping trip. What I need is a hack to keep the door on. I’m considering Velcro. Any ideas, Amazon runs out of these parts so obviously I’m not the only one having problems. The price just jumped $35 a piece for a part that cost 25 cents to make, really. If my refrigerator goes no more Dometic refrigerator for me. They are junk.
Lee Bradley well aren’t you an asshole. So you think it’s fair that if you buy all the parts to fix two hinges it costs over $200. If you had any brains you would come up with an alternative fix like I did. If it wasn’t for us yanks you’d be drinking German beer and sausages so go fuck yourself you idiot. I used Velcro to keep the door on and it works great. Take the seal off and put Velcro all around the edge. It’s actually easier to put things in and clean the freezer. You don’t even know me and you had to call me a name. What the fuck is wrong with you?

Genius. My door was sagging, caused by being opened to far down. No parts required just followed your instructions and fixed it, thank you

Thanks! Just the information I needed.
What recommendations would you suggest to support a better seal on the freezer door to reduce premature frosting in the freezer?
Excellent instructions. Thank you!
