I have a 1987 Toyota Itasca. EASY FIX! My freezer door spring rusted and broke. I took one side of the door hinges off and the door came off. The spring is just a wire which extends through the inside of the door with the wire ends sticking out of each side which attach to the sides with a 90 degree bend. I trimmed the wire (There is extra wire inside) and reconfigured it inside the door to extend out as the original did. To add the needed tension on the wire THE WIRE MUST BE BENT UP, NOT DOWN on one side only. When reinstalling I had to turn the hinge 180 degrees with tension on it which is the perfect amount of tension. I tried bending the wire 360 degrees and tore my fingers up as it exploded, hope this helps at least one person. PS. send Band-Aids
Thank you for sharing this. We ordered hinges for the same fridge from a dealer a few hours drive away. The parts took a week to arrive. Assuming they knew what we needed because I sent photos and explained that the freezer door wouldn't stay closed. When we picked up the parts that were ordered, all they had was the outer casing. I thought Parts people were supposed to know what to order. So now we have to find the springs and the insert that holds the springs. Where did you get your parts from? Thank you.
I get them directly from dometic. I have a complete set of springs and housings off of a fridge I parted out. If you want them email me at rvtectips@gmail.com
Thanks, I was able to fix my mom's rv fridge. She's ecstatic!
Thanks, saved me from buying parts! The tip about the latch being down made the difference!
You saved me a lot of headaches with this tip. Thanks !
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks. Now just to figure out where to get the parts.

Merci! Bien fait et clair.
Works for Norcold refrigerators as well.
How do you replace the older model dm2852rbx hinges
THANK YOU
Thank you so much
I fixed the latch but now I cannot get it back into the door. Any suggestions?
You have to get one side in then with a small flat blade screw driver push the other side in while pushing the door in place
Thank you!!!
