- Join me as I travel The Devil's Highway in the Cabeza Prieta Wildlife Refuge and the Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range along the southern border of Arizona and Mexico. This will be a 4 or 5 video series. The dirt road is 250 miles long and traverses some of the most inhospitable desert on the the continent. Plus, it's full of history and has been in use for a 1,000 years and was a major path for the Spanish to travel from Mexico to the California coast since the mid-1500's.

Glad you got a buddy traveling with you.
I remember seeing the Saguaro as a child when we were on a family trip ... I still have a photo my dad took with us by the cactus! You always seem to find things that tug at my heartstrings!
Dude these videos you do are just some of the best stuff on youtube.
Love that funky post video music
A saguaro with many holes in it has been visited by the Gila Woodpecker. The bird will drill several holes to get to the water stored inside. The saguaro seals off the hole with scar tissue to prevent water loss.
I just came to read all of the hate filled comments about giving thirsty people water, or saving people lives... As Mark Twain once said - “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”
Wish all the privileged assholes would realize their land of the free and home of the brave birthplace is just a happy little accident. Sigh.
I do really miss the desert adventures I used to embark on... don't be without water... don't be without food... don't get near the Choya Cactus... watch for rattlesnakes... watch for scorpions... don't have open sores because a hungry mountain lion will eat you bones and all in one hour... don't make any natives angry... survival games are not fun for anyone out there... yet... I love it so much... serenity... the Lord God Almighty is even there often.
A year ago I follow your trip to Arizona in the desert, and fall totaly in love at you way of story telling. That trip was the BEST, and gave me so much knowledge about the Indians i didn't know about.
So I'm looking so much forward, to see you out here on this adventure!!!.
You are the best, NO one can beat you doing this.!!!.
Best regards from Denmark👍🏼
Best defense for killer bees? Hold your breath. Seriously, I live in Phoenix. They are attracted to your breath.
BTW, there's scouts on the mountains all around you watching and they ain't Border Patrol.
@Jim Brown - Some dodgy Unacknowledged operation?
@@ashmaybe9634 Probably scouts for illegal alien networks.
The water is put out by groups who want to help the people sneaking into the country since the coyotes (people who sneak others into the country) don’t provide water for the people they are ‘guiding’ into the country...
"promote their religion" - understatement of the year, thanks Chig :)
Beau, the BLM thingy was a RAWS or remote area weather station
at least no samsquanchigs.
Just a Chigsquanch
Mr. Chigg You're More Informal Then National Geographic. Best Video Ever. Thank You For Sharing.
Love every video you post keep the information coming thanks

I absolutely love the desert scenery. The climate is wonderful compared to east Texas where I live. I am thinking of planning a trip to Big Bend National Park in southwest Texas. Have you ever been? PS-- Super fantastic video.. as always. ☺
Well-done! Best documentary video I've seen on the Camino. When I first went to Bates Well, in the mid-80's, one of the barns had a 1932 calendar with a picture of a pretty girl tacked to the wall. A friend who was with me was taken with her image, and he took a photo of it. We were all students at U of A back then. My friend kept the photo above his desk. A few years later, the woman he married was the "spttin' image" of the girl on the calendar. Keep up the good work, but be careful out there. Lots of smuggling going on and those people are ruthless.
110 degrees is not only not unheard-of, it's normal! I lived in Phoenix for 15 years and it got up to a hundred and 122° one day.
It shouldn't be that easy of a formula....... things accelerate with time as they fall.
You would think they'd move the water barrel closer to the tower w/the flashing blue light and big red emergency button(!)
entertaining and imformative as usual keep up the great work chig!
Wow that land is so unforgiving huh. Those cacti are really tall, the little ones looked pretty vicious with all those spines. Great video Chigg, thank you. x
I could watch you walk around the desert all day long! Arizona is one of my favorite places on earth!
A number of years ago I read a Zane Grey book. I don't remember much about the story or the book name but at the very end the villain was trying to get away but his horse threw him into a large patch of Cholla. Ouch! Zane Grey sure could paint pictures with words!
Did you make a spaceship video? I remember when you uploaded the "UFO" video and everyone fell for it lol (it was a silo roof I think)
Love all the knowledge you share with us.
That house is full of mouse droppings, breathing them can give you hantavirus. If you explore abandoned houses out in the desert wear a mask please.
Debi Mitchell too late.
good observation , hantavirus is deadly .
Debi Mitchell, funny you would mention that, I just read an article on the prevalence of haunte' virus in Southern Az. and Northern Mexico.
I mentioned Hanta Virus to Chig the other day when he pulled out a mouse nest at a Civil War battle field dig. Deadly.
the chigg just holds his breath
I watched all of these and they are fantastic!
*are those river retrieved Ray Bans* ?? 😎😎😎
CD 1 yes 99% would bet on it
Of course!!!
Chigg needs to buy Ray bans? I doubt it.
Thanks for bringing us along. Arizona is such a beautiful place. I got to go there this year and do some detecting and video for my channel. Happy Hunting! ~ Gypsy🌵
Wait! There are 2 Chiggs! 😳
Chigg love your stuff, but we dont like to be called illegal aliens. God Bless on your travel's. 👽
Billie Goat I was thinking that this is the first time I've seen that phrase used in ages, and wondering if that's because I live in a liberal spot on the left coast.
I agree, i like to think chigg has more brains than the averange American
Called "Jumping Cactus"" they are very painful.
To find the depth of the well, multiply the number of seconds by the speed of gravity, about 32 feet per second.
sirknight438 An object in free fall will accelerate at 32 ft/sec/sec until it reaches terminal velocity. In this instance of a few seconds, your estimate will suffice. Science rules.
No such thing as gravity! It’s electromagnetism!
There is just Something so cool about detecting in the desert! Watch for the rattlesnakes haha!
Sweet vids Chigg!
This is an awesome video journey. Thank you for sharing!
Waiting for part 2
Respect !! your the best 😁 highly insperational as always !!
Love the vids Beau! I live right along the old Lincoln highway aka "Great Trail" in Columbiana county Ohio. Hoping to get out and do some relic hunting myself. Maybe I can con you into coming to Ohio if I can get some decent permissions? I live close to where Morgans Raiders turned themselves in and where the "lost french gold" is rumored to be. I also have another lost treasure that needs found. That's a really long story though.
joshua hammon, That sounds awesome, I hope he says yes. Maybe he will finally find a gold coin... 😀
It's the home of Union General Robert Allen and several members of the "Fighting McCooks". My town was established in 1803 so theoretically there is a mess of history to be recovered. The other treasure I need recovered is the wedding ring of a friend who drowned in little beaver creek. It mean the world to his widow. It's a long shot but we know the exact location. The dam that caused the rushing water has been removed so the water is safe to enter now. I just need someone reputable to assist with the recovery.
Sounds like you live in a great part of the country for metal detecting! I'm sorry to hear about your friend, that would be great to have Chigg work with you on that, he has amazing skills.
Did mommy like you best?
I love your toad trips and I'm always hoping you'll get all the way out here. Very excited for next vid. Good luck!!
I am mexican and you suscritor
110 my butt. Forget the "official" temps. Down in these Arizona valleys we average about 115 through July into middle August. Hitting 120 happens several times every summer.
I would love to explore that area for old gold mines and ghost towns. Why is it that the BLM claim and acts like they 'own' that land? Technically, they don't own squat. That bunch of bureaucratic bullies are nothing more than an office/extention of the U.S. government, which (and in accordance with the U.S. Constitution ~ gov't is made up of, by, and for the People) means in reality, that the land is owned by the People of this country, and like their name says, they were created to only manage and maintain the land. (The BLM is yet another example of a part of the government getting too big for their britches and giving themselves way too much power). Really ticks me off on how out of control gov't is and I could argue or debate this subject all day, . Anyway...........thank you for another great video, and watch out for them Graboids, they will slurp ya in a second, LOL!!!!
The formula to find distance from free fall time (in a vacuum) is h=1/2gt^2, or read as height equals one half the acceleration of gravity times the square of the free fall time. The acceleration due to gravity is ~9.8m/s, and using a stopwatch a few times to time the rock falling and averaging them, I ended up with 1.76 seconds. If you plug that into the equation, you end up with a depth of 15.18m, or 49.8 feet.
Hello from Cornville
Visit Bradshaw mountains and Lynx creek if you have time
cool video beau its like desert urbex 👍😀..when you said the bates well i thought you were going to say the bates motel ..think i would rather the well lol
*I'm a Texan who used to live in Arizona back in 89, my mom is actually from the Mexican state of Sonora which borders Arizona just to the south.* 😁
Unfortunately, I forget something I need for every adventure....
Chigg, do you ever carry a handgun/rifle with you when you're out in places like this? Always wondered if you carried protection against the samsquantch. Great video, keep up the good work!
I know exactly where you are! Those cactus are protected under Arizona and Federal law! Penalties are expensive including jail time! That area is traveled by Mexican Drug Cartels so you know! Follow that road off to the sides you should find a lot of stuff! Including graves! Water barrels are out there for illegal aliens crossing! Many a year die out there! Mostly illegals! Border Patrol keep a close watch out there! Organ Pipe National monument is very heavy with drug cartels! They killed a couple park rangers there a few years back! A lot of killer bees out there!
Always love your SW adventures and the knowledge you share. Wasn't aware of the "Red Button".
The simplified formula you need is
d= 5*t^2
Where D is meters and t is seconds
What's a meter? One of those rocks that falls from the sky? Maybe something like a thermoMETER.
Yes cholla AKA jumping cactus are evil.
Saguaro cactus are very big, 2" long spines.
Awesome chigg 👍
Greetings from Flagstaff!
rcmadness247 flagstaff baby!!!!!
Cornville too
You crack me up. Only you would think about making a space video at night. No wonder your brother is hiding off video. 😂
Wonderful video, can't wait for part 2. Thank you Chiggies
Looking forward very much to the 2nd installment of another great Chigga-mentry. Great viewing Chiggman 😉😉😉
Probably more than just a weather station... since it ‘observes’ Mexico!
Thank you sir for this video. I enjoy your trips West very much. It looks peaceful there.
you and the "exploring abandoned mines" guy should meet up and explore some mines in AZ!!!
If you believe what you read, this desolation is supposed to be the best place for a close encounter.....level headed folk like you probably won’t ever have an encounter.
LOL! BROTHERS ARE ALWAYS GOOD GUYS SOME TIMES!! THAT'S THE WAY IT IS WITH MINE, LOVE THEM ALL ANYWAY. CATCHING UP WITH YOUR VLOGS. ENJOYING EVERY ONE OF THEM. GREAT HISTORY CLASS.
I’ve traveled this many times. You could do lots more research and get a better appreciation for what it represents by referring to a guide book at: cabezaprieta.org/destinations/el_camino_del_diablo_page_1.php
Very interesting and educational. Thanks
@7:50ish Tennessee in the house! 🤙
That machine is a RAWS unit. Remote Automated Weather Station...
Just discovered your channel about a month ago and really enjoy your vids and the song at the end of the show. Thanks for taking us on your adventures.
Dude your southwest adventure films are so interesting. Thanks for sharing.
I like that you have a brain. I like that when you saw the barrel of water you didn’t open it to show UA-cam there was water in it- like most knuckleheads would open it a little to let it dribble out and show us all a shot of water coming out of a faucet. Thank you.
There is at least one case of a person being killed from a Seguro cactus killing the person who pulled the cactus over on top of himself.
Don't forget to do some gem hunting!! you can find lots of things all along the 10 freeway and don't forget Saddle Mountain for fireagate!!
@14:13 I've seen markings like that caused by hook and eye latches.
Well done Beau, love these videos. ;)) ATB Michael
Should have emptied the water. Those who set up those water tanks are breaking US law.
Chigg that was awesome. Thanks for explaining things too . I tell my kids im getting a history lesson every time they see me watching your videos. I love it
Don't open the well there might ass blasters down there.
Go down the well you went to first ..... 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Spaceship ... lol I never thought of a silo like that!
I didn't get the notification, but I'm glad I checked my notification page!
The well looked like it had cement at the bottom. I hope Roscoe was with you guys out there👍
So love this.. these types of your videos are my favorites.. so excited to follow you on this adventure !! :)
10 meters per second per second. Yes I meant to say it twice. Second^2.
Why would people just shoot at plants? Need to find better things to do.
I am afraid now that Ricky is one of those who never got found...
Hi, my name is Dawn. I would like a tee shirt. Love your river videos.
The eagles on the border aquachigger version
Interesting!
Hit the road .......jack that was hilarious
Can't belive your so close to a million subs !
Great video,I have been in that area a few times,it's a different world out there.
If the water ‘dried up’ that could be why it was abandoned!
I thought this had to do with an El Camino
Lol you searched right down the road from where I lived it's a awesome area there in ajo area
I love AZ I so want to go back. I could live there
9.8 meters per second Squared
Welcome, 'chigg-brother Pete!!!
That's not a dry well it is a tunnel to Mexico hahaha
wren nests and other types of birds who make nests in them.
