Just a side note. There was a time before members, So r2h really was the ultimate meta (except rune battle axe/kite) The issue was that nothing dropped it, and nothing sold it. So everyone was limited to buying from the few elite players who could make rune 2 handers. If i remember correctly people were paying 100k each for them. Random side note though before members there were 4 worlds and I think it was 1200 players per world... We would have to spam login to get into the game. Like typing username and password multiple times to try and log in to get a "world full" message to try again. So every time I got home from school my grind started trying to log into the game. Before tutorial island... there was no tutorial. you would create a character and pick a "class" to play as. Ranger, Warrior, or wizard. I picked Wizard and was instantly thrown into lumby with a blue wizard hat, staff, and a few runes. Thats it. I had no idea what I was doing, or even how to converse with NPC's (didnt notice the bright blue text in the top left). Oh the hours I spent picking up free mind runes in lumby castle.
r2h was more but it sat at 100k for a long time then eventually it sat at 50k forever it seemed. the worst part was buying bulk lobs swordfish or super sets and uncerting them! being able to note items was one of the best updates ever!
When i started playing runescape (age 14) my buddy and i were told pking was picking up item spawns in the wild. Pronounced as "picking". So we "pked" (picked) planks and tiles and steal bars and chaos runes in the wilderness for money.
Corey Moyer i was told it was picking by someone IN PERSON. runescape is full of stupid abbreviations. Makes sense and has nothing to do with being dumb. The only idiot here is you.

Back then there was a lot more variety to staking. People would make low level specialized accounts with 1 prayer solely for the purpose of staking. Weird builds that would pwn but not work in wildy such as really high att/def and low str Stakers would also trick higher level casuals to put up their whole banks and lose to these specifically made accounts haha. I miss the hard-to-lookup names like 0oo0 o0oo0 as well Nowadays there isn't much variation on staking rules or levels...just maxed accounts boxing or whipping...No funning either
U had a sleeping bag back then to lose fatigue to skill more. Before sleeping bags u had to walk to the nearest bed and click on it and all ud see is your character next to the bed standing and saying Zzzzzzzzz for a few times. There was also only 1 pickaxe (iron looking pickaxe) before different metal pickaxes were introduced.
It was during this period I was mining coal and eventually sold 1.6k certs for 1.6mil. Got to lvl 78 mining in the end. The game got real fun when I got wealthy.

I didn't know the Carpentry thing. You know I always found it bizarre that there were a bunch of empty houses in Falador, and in Varrock those got turned into the slums.

Another extremely popular pk build was the 1 str, 1 atk, 10 hp, 17 magic and 10 defence pure. I also used to make a tank toon, with melle weapons and magic skill. THEN id stake mages who ONLY had def/magic. So i could hit them with my raw atk, AND cast magic spells on them. I won a LOT of gold behind that wall with people watching every fight. :D
Thanks for this video! I find the history of the game so interesting... I only started playing runescape in 2004, so I missed classic but it's fascinating to learn about the roots of the game we all love today! Thanks again :)
2001 OG player. we had two un released runes called "sun" and "life" rune, rumoured to be part of the magic skill tree that was going to be necromancy The only runite rocks in the whole game were at max level wilderness and there were two of them.. just two. There used to be a male and female platechest, that you could have a smithy in varock alter the armour from male to female, but a male couldnt equip the female armour till it was altered back. Ranging could be done on people / mobs already in combat esentially allowing teams and kill stealing. We had good prayers and evil prayers for a short time.
Also on a pking topic of classic there was a point where tons of pkers gave themselves names like "3 hit you" or 3 hit killer" as you could not leave combat until after the first 3 rounds
Player owned houses were awesome in UO. Way, way back when you could even steal someone’s house key and rob all their stuff if you got inside. That went away pretty quick though haha Every single spot one could be built was taken pretty much and made a cool housing market too
Staking behind draynor bank on RSC, or in Lumby. Couldn't see combat levels on right click, had to ask. My favourite two accounts were my low level def mage, killing mains ez in stakes and my defence tank, walk around in iron armor, r2h, stake someone change into rune armour, easy money hahah.
I dont play osrs anymore. Although i did for 10 years out of my life. However i still watch content. I enjoy your videos because of the memories you bring back. Sad to see the original game i know is gonna be gone. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK CRUMB P.s- remember how 10 def 40 attack and high str was considered a pure
they should bring back carpentry with how big runescape is now with all the houses not being used and make the houses "rentable" taking money from the econ :3
i would really like to see "guild hall's" of some kind and have players have to pay to own them. the way the voting would have to work, would be players just vote yes or no. guild hall's could contain unlocks, if enough players reach a mining level of like 495 total, one rune rock could spawn every 60 mins or something. at the cost of say 1m for a small island 5m for med and 10m for large the guild(clan) could use construction skill to build the island.
the carpentry thing sounds super familiar but i dont recall any deets :( i just remember they tried to release some stuff that got the community amped and then just never talked about it again without releasing it lol
6:20 speaking of the noting system, when the "take all" was added for banks, if you didnt have room it would drop whatever couldnt be fit in your inventory on the ground, I was making coal certs that day.... ended up with like 10 certs instead of the 500 (2500 coal) that i should have had
Soon as you said scimitar that way i thought, wow that reminds me of when people actually pronounced it that way, for future reference its simi-tar the c is silent
Jack that's what great about this game. Albeit scimitar is a real word. But every group has a diff. Pronunciation of most things in the world. Its great. Ardoooooogone hahahaha
Sworn Dungeons haha yeah, although theres a video of mod mark telling us the correct pronunciation of runescape words, i never bothered saying ardougne till that video haha
At 99% fatigue, you could get XP in str/def/attack, but not HP. Players abused this (most of the time using bots) to build in those stats without getting HP levels. Players normally dueled based on HP, not combat level. I dont' think I've seen you mention this, even in the fatigue/sleeping bag video
Started in feb 02. Made a pk account in 2003. Wine pures weren't a big deal because they were redundant after the strength got to like 60 because you couldn't get strength experience from attack dummies. So your hp would catch up.....r2hs were awesome 3hitforda2h was a common phrase........... Also In 02 r2hs were like 1 mil..which was a hell of lot of money back then. That was because you could only get r2hs with 99 smithing or 98 with dwarven stout and only bluerose13x had that stat so she (I believe it was a she) set the prices. Then other people got the smithing stat and it eventually dropped to 100k (a price range I could afford so i started to ok) then eventually to 60k where it kind stayed in that value.
Also ranging didn't work like rs2 ranging or (old school ranging) if you got attacked and only had a bow you wouldn't shoot back you'd just start using your fists. Ranging was used to help other people who were locked in combat basically. It was redundant if you were the ranger and you were getting attacked. No specials in the game just a "catch system" which is hard to explain lol basically when someone ran away from a fight you'd have to "catch" them to initiate another round of 3 hits. 3 hitting people on full health was always extremely satisfying. Oh fuck I'm feeling old. :'-(
One more thing as I'm feeling nostalgic and if anyone is interested. A misconception back in RSC was that a "pure pker" was someone with as low defence as possible and 31 prayer. 1 magic. But this is actually what was called a prayer beast. A true pure was someone with no prayer and no magic. Because magic worked like prayer in the sense that it didn't matter what all your other stats were you'd go up a combat level after some magic levels. Hence people who were pkers were never mages (well in f2p pkin which is where you went even if you were a member to go pk - Where as rs2 made members pkin the place to be). Basically pkers didn't have magic. So no teleporting anywhere. RSC was a tough game. I got to like 81 range and 90 strength. Took me like 2 years. Then I finally moved to rs2 start of January 2005 because the old rs was dying. Basically the slayer skill came out and I went from 70 range and strength 70 strength. (Stats were the same as when rs2 came out in march 04). Basically got to 99 range 99 strength along 85 slayer at a nice 95 combat in June only 5 months later, - half the time it took me to get to 90 strength and 81 range in RSC. I think I was like 320-330th person to get 99 range in RuneScape - there's my claim to fame lol
Your info in magic is a bit off, once your 10+ levels above the required level to cast spell you will never fail it. Example: 59 magic required for fire blast, 69+ is needed to garuntee you will never fail it
Haha in relation to the "labor intensive" magic - not sure if it this is widely known either, but when you did mining or fishing, you couldn't just click / right click on the rock or fishing spot, you also had to first scroll to the inventory, click on the pickaxe or fishing rod / lobster cage and then click on what you needed to do, every single time. This was for every single individual motion, meaning you would only swing a pickaxe once, and it wouldn't auto swing after the first click until you got the ore. You can imagine how many times you needed to do that over and over until, with the amount of failed swings before you got ores. Especially if you were mining Mith or Adam ores, that was shiet - i got to like lvl 71 mining doing this Also i'm pretty certain that the rocks didn't show what colour the ore was, so you wouldn't know what ore you're trying to mine unless you examined the rock
My main memory from classic was when my friend got me to turn my character female and said I'd just get given free stuff because people thought I was a girl. I didn't even have to beg, people would walk past and see a nooby "girl" and just give me like 10k and better armor or something. Eventually it started to piss me off, the perks were not worth the harassment so when rs2 started I made a new account because I'd forgotten how to change back to male. That small taste of what it was like to be a female on the internet those days seriously showed me just how much shit women had to put up with if they were online back then - it's no wonder that everybody said girls didn't use the internet, I wouldn't have used the internet either if I was female back then.
i started in beta,, befor members ever was around,, only 4 worlds at that time.. and i still play to this day with same account on R3,, quit game many times , but friends would get me back on r/s,, seen alot , owned alot ,and gave away alot
Made my account in 2005 I had one before it but I lost it so right after RuneScape 2 was released is when I started playing and I've been playing almost consistently for all these years I've seen so many changes in this game so many big things happened I remember when they released construction and they were thinking about putting it in west falador but they realized that there's too many players and they had to make an instance world for them I remember the trade limit vividly when the wild was a safe zone there's a lot I remember about this game I basically watched it grow into what it is Ffs I remember when farming wasn't even a skill yet LOL
You said there wasnt a delay in casting magic spells. Yes there was. If you casted too fast it would say something like you need to wait until you can cast the spell again. It wasnt long but there was still a cool off period. I think it was around 2 seconds. I know this video is old just thought I'd share.
Funny, jagex put out a thing asking players 4 ideas and me and a couple friends suggested that idea it was supposed 2 b where u spawned instead of lumby. O & 2handers lookd the same as a dagger er longsword. I dueled as a def noob and i did wine trick but tank mages ruled that you'd see high lvl 30 mages beating lvl 90 players with claws.
I used buy rune ores from one guy, have another guy smelt them into bars, have another guy smith them into r2hs, then spend the next day selling around 100 r2hs. Rinse and repeat. Then someone stole all my wealth and I never really got back into playing.
I remember that and I never did it I was mostly working on Smith and because it was like the hardest skill to do because it only went up to admit armor tell they add rune and armor could not be turn in certificates and the sad thing about it there was no grand exchange so you actually had to trading whatever treating whatever trading whatever or trade to the shops
The last pure I made in RSC was wined from 5 attack to 40. It was strong as fuck for his level but had low HP so it would get 3 hit pretty easily. I think you could be level 13 weilding a R2h if your hp was 10.
i had a pking partner that was a wined account but also ran 1 prayer. he hit really high but his hp was really low so hed die a lot too. this was really early on u didnt really find rangers thinking back i should have trained my range we could have really dominated then.
I wined a pure to 60 attack and did lost city. Super low level so I could stake 30 def mages before they got too tanky. Wear r2h then switch to d long and tear through their def. 60 1 40 or so would consistently tear them down
back when easter eggs dropped I was trying to bank and since you had to wait in line to use bankers one by one I somehow managed to accidentally eat my easter egg
Also there was a point I'm classic where all trades were done on the varrock castle grounds with general stuff I'm the south castle grounds and p hats and Santa's in the north part of the castle garden.
Poisoned Rune Spear requires level 1 Attack on RuneScape Classic, but a normal Rune Spear requires 40 Attack.

2001 OG player. we had two un released runes called "sun" and "life" rune, rumoured to be part of the magic skill tree that was going to be necromancy
The only runite rocks in the whole game were at max level wilderness and there were two of them..
Tell Paranub That's right.
I remember R2H were 100k and used to pk those all the time in wild back in 2003
I got a few R2h kills back when they cost more than 100k. Needless to say I sold them instantly because I knew the prices would drop.
Also on a pking topic of classic there was a point where tons of pkers gave themselves names like "3 hit you" or 3 hit killer" as you could not leave combat until after the first 3 rounds
Chris Georgiou I had an alt named 3HitChu. 3HitYou was taken, it make me sad.
Player owned houses were awesome in UO. Way, way back when you could even steal someone’s house key and rob all their stuff if you got inside. That went away pretty quick though haha
Every single spot one could be built was taken pretty much and made a cool housing market too
Staking behind draynor bank on RSC, or in Lumby. Couldn't see combat levels on right click, had to ask. My favourite two accounts were my low level def mage, killing mains ez in stakes and my defence tank, walk around in iron armor, r2h, stake someone change into rune armour, easy money hahah.
I remember when some armour was trimmed red. The round wooden shield was trimmed red. It was only left on the med helms i think.
I dont play osrs anymore. Although i did for 10 years out of my life. However i still watch content. I enjoy your videos because of the memories you bring back. Sad to see the original game i know is gonna be gone. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK CRUMB
P.s- remember how 10 def 40 attack and high str was considered a pure
glad to here you enjoy it man! Very very sad about classic, I'm going to miss it
RaRa Mac was a black armor pure don't forget heie the pk made 20 def pures a thing
I'll add he brought kid rock back into my music world and showed me static x
I miss the old days! I still play but it's not as exciting or captivating at all anymore :(
clairee bearr im back on actually. Its been 2 weeks. Im up to 2b at the duel. Enjoying the scapeing alot
I remember selling a Halloween mask set for 50k haha.
Subbing for this series. So many memories.
Things Only Old RuneScape Players Will Remember (Part 4)
they should bring back carpentry with how big runescape is now with all the houses not being used and make the houses "rentable" taking money from the econ :3
Kinda like how ultimate online housing worked :p Would be neat to have seen someone similar in Runescape for sure!
i would really like to see "guild hall's" of some kind and have players have to pay to own them. the way the voting would have to work, would be players just vote yes or no. guild hall's could contain unlocks, if enough players reach a mining level of like 495 total, one rune rock could spawn every 60 mins or something. at the cost of say 1m for a small island 5m for med and 10m for large the guild(clan) could use construction skill to build the island.
Dalie Winterwolf yeah guild halls would be pretty sweet
the carpentry thing sounds super familiar but i dont recall any deets :( i just remember they tried to release some stuff that got the community amped and then just never talked about it again without releasing it lol
I miss having a sleeping bag to restore energy.
6:20 speaking of the noting system, when the "take all" was added for banks, if you didnt have room it would drop whatever couldnt be fit in your inventory on the ground, I was making coal certs that day.... ended up with like 10 certs instead of the 500 (2500 coal) that i should have had
Ohh, and if you think 2500 coal is annoying to get now days... it was WAY fucking worse back then.
I used to walk around the wilderness picking up the tiles like, wtf are these for...
Haha litterly didn't get a use till they introduced invention in rs3
Me too
Soon as you said scimitar that way i thought, wow that reminds me of when people actually pronounced it that way, for future reference its simi-tar the c is silent
Jack yeah I've seen that but even he didn't make up those words. Haha only 2 people truly know
I'm the worst for mispronunciation
I blame everyone saying D Scimmy
Yup, I remember that... They were going to be sold for 3k... I wandered around forever with 3k in my pocket trying to go and buy one...
I had a beer pure..name was Drunk Pure. I soon realized Pking was not for me but he is still on the RS3 high scores. He definitely became my main
Especially if you were mining Mith or Adam ores, that was shiet - i got to like lvl 71 mining doing this
Also i'm pretty certain that the rocks didn't show what colour the ore was, so you wouldn't know what ore you're trying to mine unless you examined the rock
Yes! I remember that, the very early days before the fatigue update
Even in rs2, you had to Prospect to know what was in the rock in the early days.
That small taste of what it was like to be a female on the internet those days seriously showed me just how much shit women had to put up with if they were online back then - it's no wonder that everybody said girls didn't use the internet, I wouldn't have used the internet either if I was female back then.
i started in beta,, befor members ever was around,, only 4 worlds at that time.. and i still play to this day with same account on R3,, quit game many times , but friends would get me back on r/s,, seen alot , owned alot ,and gave away alot
the r2h was OP AF man so scarry back then
10 levels above spell req for no more fail, not counting any magic bonus. At least with private servers, logging out and in reset the 20 sec timer
Didn't know that, I'll need to test that logout trick in real RSC, very useful if it works
Made my account in 2005 I had one before it but I lost it so right after RuneScape 2 was released is when I started playing and I've been playing almost consistently for all these years I've seen so many changes in this game so many big things happened I remember when they released construction and they were thinking about putting it in west falador but they realized that there's too many players and they had to make an instance world for them I remember the trade limit vividly when the wild was a safe zone there's a lot I remember about this game I basically watched it grow into what it is
Ffs I remember when farming wasn't even a skill yet LOL
I remember when these was a spot to mine clay just south of the barbarian village.
I fucking knew it, I just went there yesterday thinking I was crazy or retarded for believing there was such a place for no reason
Started like 2002 but i was so young back then i just walked around and killed stuff i had no clue what was happening
I remember cert running it was brutal but an iconic memory of runescape. Same with construction. And if i remeber correctly tailoring was a skill also
MFW when I heard that construction was released in 2006 O: damn I remember it like it was yesterday
You said there wasnt a delay in casting magic spells. Yes there was. If you casted too fast it would say something like you need to wait until you can cast the spell again. It wasnt long but there was still a cool off period. I think it was around 2 seconds.
I know this video is old just thought I'd share.
Failing spells sucked. I completely forgot about that.
I agree man
Funny, jagex put out a thing asking players 4 ideas and me and a couple friends suggested that idea it was supposed 2 b where u spawned instead of lumby. O & 2handers lookd the same as a dagger er longsword. I dueled as a def noob and i did wine trick but tank mages ruled that you'd see high lvl 30 mages beating lvl 90 players with claws.
God do I miss these days I remember playing on dail up someone always picked up the phone
That's the worst, getting dced by the phone, lot of people stayed on RSC after the release of RS2 because their dialup was to slow
RaVs oh yea, i hated that shit man. I had Aol dial up and thought it was the shit until i found out about picking up the phone lol.
Crumb yeah i remember even though it was bad those days were the best i used to stay up all night playing RSC it is a shame it is going away.
Fuck me I just said this yesterday on a different video. It was shit!
If you make anymore of these please include axe Hut training it was the afk meta for years in classic
I used buy rune ores from one guy, have another guy smelt them into bars, have another guy smith them into r2hs, then spend the next day selling around 100 r2hs. Rinse and repeat. Then someone stole all my wealth and I never really got back into playing.
Best thing I remember from Runescape 2001 was PvPing in Lumbridge Dungeon as Lumbridge was a safe area but the dung wasn't.
That's awesome, didn't know that!
Ah yes. I first started/played in 2001. I remember the certs. Coal certs were a hot commodity back then.
I played since late 2001, or early 2002.... I definitely remember carpentry being on the skill chart and on the hiscores
i remember being a level 3 in full addy (almost i had a mith plate because i was poor) and using magic to pk in lumby at the cows
I think you could be level 13 weilding a R2h if your hp was 10.
i used to do mage pures waaaaaay back, trying to get about 30ish or lower combat on f2p with fireblast, gg
i had a pking partner that was a wined account but also ran 1 prayer. he hit really high but his hp was really low so hed die a lot too. this was really early on u didnt really find rangers thinking back i should have trained my range we could have really dominated then.
Magic was fast if you had the money for runes, or farmed them. The runes were mostly just mob drops, with the exception of the rune vendor's.
old f2p pking meta 10 def 13 mage fire strike the noobs in full black :) was so much fun
Also that moment when the seers mine carts actually were viable
Oh boy for the coal mining?
I remember carpentry... do you remember good and evil magic? eventually turned to magic and prayer and unused life runes.
Also... I been on classic several hours a day every day for a while now.
Imagine having a 5inch overlay showing you where GE shortcut is.....
Varrock wildy, maging from behind the barrier on the west side of multi haha, even selling food at the wilderness line was v popular.
i remember when my bot always ruined my pures and i got 2 def when i woke up. golden days
I wined a pure to 60 attack and did lost city. Super low level so I could stake 30 def mages before they got too tanky. Wear r2h then switch to d long and tear through their def. 60 1 40 or so would consistently tear them down
Nice video
Thanks man!
i was a new player when certs came out, I remember thinking the gp for a single lobby cert was a ton of money
back when easter eggs dropped I was trying to bank and since you had to wait in line to use bankers one by one I somehow managed to accidentally eat my easter egg
one way I used to make money was buying plateskirts and having the guy in east varrock south of the bank change them into platelegs
I remember training dummies with wine. I wasn’t even a pure. I heard it was the best way of training so I spent hours doing it....
Also there was a point I'm classic where all trades were done on the varrock castle grounds with general stuff I'm the south castle grounds and p hats and Santa's in the north part of the castle garden.
