This is great! Just bought the same one $60 from French flea market, glad to find it’s legit, and surprised it’s 1953! Although there is an issue with the gas release. Can’t wait to take it apart now!
I got into these lighters not long ago and went trough the rabbit hole of learning to fix them and buying them. This was also very informative, im in progress of obtaining the valve tool since im pretty sure the o-rings are just about to return back into wood. Thanks for filming this, very few actually explain the components and their maintenance. Your channels seem to contain a lot of useful stuff so imma stick around :3
4:31 - there used to be a screw in adaptor (uses the valve screw lid's thread). Which screwed in and depressed the valve pin. Then, you placed the gas can into the adaptor and filled the lighter. No back spray when filling DuPont's or others that use this valve (like the 'Colibri molectric 88'). Don't know if they are still available though
I recommend you buy one and get one in your hand one day. They are so nice and the old saying goes...they don't make them like the used to. I'm starting to buy non-working ones and refurbishing them to work like new again.
as a side note to this aswome tutorial and info ; the screw in the lid is not to remove the front part of the lid ;but to remove the inner plate and clean it. you canot remove the front flat surface from the lid. cheers
@@chaicharin ahhh i see thanks for the reply ! i also wondered, is it the yellow fitting that is compatible for this lighter or is it another color ?(i have the exact same as the one in the video)
How responsive is the flame regulator supposed to be? Should the flame grow immediately as one is turning the cylindrical wheel or does it take a little for the flame to grow or shrink as one turns the cylindrical wheel?
It will have a mark of 18k on the lighter. I have run across a few gold plated ones that did not have the 20 micron plated stamp that I thought were 18k but had the lighter tested and they were plated.
I can’t explain why but this gives me old 2012ish UA-cam vibes and I have successfully escaped reality for a few mins

Glad I could help! I was tired of watching people in third world countries or old videos that were hard to watch.
@@chaicharin Yeah. I cannot but agree. Watched most of them and they sure were a tough watch.

Nice job ! it's help me a lot to repair mine :)
Glad it helped!
Very nice gold-plated lighter. I really like.

@@chaicharin They are a bit expensive, for the price I prefer to buy gold or silver. But I recognize that they are great lighters

I wonder, why does the inside of the refill part doesnt have a color coded like all dupont lighters?
I have seen some that dont have paint on them so could be a replacement bottom.

It can be off one the older ones and sometimes taking it apart and cleaning it can help tremendously
@@chaicharin any idea where to get it professionally cleaned?
Hello, I would like to ask if you know how to tell if a vintage st DuPont is solid 18k gold or not.
It will have a mark of 18k on the lighter. I have run across a few gold plated ones that did not have the 20 micron plated stamp that I thought were 18k but had the lighter tested and they were plated.
@@chaicharinthank you very much!
Where'd u get that tip for the butane? It's been a pain to find one

@@chaicharin thanks!
