This is for Liz and Richard - In 1993 I was playing bass in a funk band with some ex-members of Light of the world/Central Line and we were having a band photo session in a studio one Sunday afternoon when this song came on the radio that I hadn't heard before. The melody and opening line grabbed me and pulled me in, it was one of those moments when you really connect with a song in a spiritual way. But sadly I didn't catch the name of the song or the band at the time. So I made it my mission to try and find this song and for the next 3 decades I searched high and low, desperately hoping to find the track that was constantly playing in my head, not knowing the title or artist. I devoted countless hours to searching on Spotify, UA-cam and Soundcloud, even humming the tune into Shazam and SoundHound all to no avail. Sometimes I even doubted my own sanity but I never gave up. All I could remember was the melody sung by a soft, beautifully feminine voice and the line 'Come with me, and we'll fly' which I assumed must be the title. Do you know how many songs have that as the title? It's alot. Then last Friday I was sat at home and I thought I'd try Spotify again. Maybe they updated an old back catalogue from some obscure bands or added a lost album, that's how my mind was processing this and determined not to give up. And knock me down with a feather it was there. 'Lyrics matched' The RAH band, Perfumed Garden. Hang on... I know the RAH band from the 80s - Clouds across the moon and Messages from the stars. Seriously all this time it was hiding in plain sight? I simultaneously felt elated and cheated at the same time. But as soon as I pressed play on Perfumed Garden, I was back in that photo studio like the past 30 years hadn't happened. What a moment that was. All I can say is WOW, WOW, WOW. Thank you for creating a piece of music that was so powerful it stayed with me for the past 30 years despite only ever hearing it once. Sorry I've rambled on a bit but there's so much good music for me to catch up on here. Thanks for putting this podcast out guys and keeping the flame burning bright. 🔥
