    Oh yes, this really REALLY helped. I completed my first solo yesterday and as I was flaring this video was in my mind... keep it level, eyes at the end of the runway. Greased the landing. Thanks Stuart, you're a star

    Great video as usual Stuart. I came across your channel when I made the decision to start my PPL. I look forward to seeing each new video and they always keep me inspired to keep on reading and learning when the weather is being typically British! The hard work is paying off though as I did my first solo flight yesterday! I even did one of my best landings with a nice steady glide slope. Unfortunately my GoPro packed up so I have no proof! It manages to keep working when I bounce the landings though!
    Keep up the good work dude! Blue skies and tail winds! ✌️

      Awesome - so glad I’ve helped in a small way! Massive congrats on your first solo, I still remember the buzz I got after completing mine. Keep me posted how you’re getting on and any ideas for future vids are appreciated too! Safe flying

    Like you were, I am struggling to get my landings smooth, despite numerous circuits at EHPJ. I will use your advice to assist the progress. Trimming to reserve cockpit management effort probably will help me the most. Hopefully something will "click" soon and my landings will improve. Training so I can get PPL to fly my Cirrus SR22T to and from work in Germany. Talk about putting the cart before the horse!

      You will get there, it all clicks at different times for people, I’m sure you’ll nail them soon and all will seem easy,

    Great video. I struggled with landing too - one of the things that helped it click for me is learning to look as far down the runway as possible when rounding out over the runway. It's not a natural thing to do and it certainly took me a while!

    • @StuartThePilot
      @StuartThePilot  6 років тому +1

      This was a big turning point for me also and one I wish I’d included in the video - thanks for adding the comment hopefully everyone sees it! Thanks for the message

    Hi Stuart
    Nice video. Keep it up. Like yourself I struggled A LOT to get the landing right. Speed usually is the main factor to get it right or wrong. Naturally when you see you are too fast or too slow you use throttle to adjust. This is NOT the case in landing. Assuming you are trimmed, you should set the speed by pitching the nose and set the rate of descend by adjusting the power (throttle).

    • @StuartThePilot
      @StuartThePilot  6 років тому +1

      Thank you glad you liked it! Completely agree regarding speed being controlled by pitch. The further effect of pitching down is losing altitude which will result in an increase in throttle required. I try and do both simultaneously to keep numbers in the windscreen.

    Hey Stuart, great video! Just did my first circuit today with landing and made an absolute balls of it!! My head was melted with all going on but you make it simple! Trim it early, numbers in the windscreen and keep her at 70kts! Cheers mate! :)

    Good vid, I’m a fairly new pilot and struggled with landing. My instructor kept saying 65-70 on threshold - 70 too fast for me in c172 and I would float. 60 - 65 is ideal for me..

    • @StuartThePilot
      @StuartThePilot  6 років тому

      Great you worked out what works best for you! Keep it at 60-65, don’t be tempted to go lower - I’ve found myself flirting with 60 before and any sudden wind change can drop your airspeed to dangerously slow. Happy flying Stephen !

    Hey buddy... I started my PPL a couple of months ago, this video has *really* helped. I can visualize that 'holding off' a lot better, hopefully on my next lesson in a couple of days I'll be much better than all of my previous attempts - I'll let you know :)

    • @StuartThePilot
      @StuartThePilot  6 років тому

      That’s brilliant feedback ! So glad it’s helped you. Send your eyes to the end of the runway during the hold off will also help. Look forward to hearing about it👍🏻 Thanks for the comment

      I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the tip 👍🏻

    • @glennog
      @glennog 6 років тому

      So it didn't go too great... Started to drift too low on the approach, just as we were approaching the threshold. Gave it some power to correct but the curve ball kind of put me off my stride, so to speak. Circuits tomorrow so hopefully by the end of the day I'll have landings in the bag... also (and I'm bricking it) I've got my Comms and Air Law exams tomorrow

    Hi Stuart, big fan of your rugby and congratulations on your captaincy but didn’t know you were a pilot. I am very interested in aviation and was wandering what was the flight school you went to and how much does it cost.

    • @StuartThePilot
      @StuartThePilot  6 років тому

      Thanks Ross - I’ve done a whole video on that kind of stuff, type private pilot license into UA-cam and should find it. Hope it helps

    Hi Stuart, quick one. I have the same headset as you but I’m having issues with feedback when transmitting in the warrior. Did you have any issues?

    • @StuartThePilot
      @StuartThePilot  6 років тому

      Hey - usually the headset works fine for me. Check the connection plugs in the warrior at clean and free from dirt. Also make sure you adjust the squelch which could be the issue. Thanks, Stuart

    • @coopapalooza
      @coopapalooza 6 років тому

      Aye I turned the squelch down but it seems to be fine with the headsets that the school provide. This might force my hand for a new headset 🤦‍♂️

    hi, do u know what age you have to be to start learning. I'm 13 and really wanting to start at Inverness flight school.

    • @StuartThePilot
      @StuartThePilot  6 років тому

      Hey mate, I think you can start your lessons at 14 but can’t go solo until 16. You can then get apply for your licence when you turn 17. Check with Inverness though to be sure

      Hey if you're interested in flying gliders check out the Highland Gliding Club at Easterton. They fly at weekends and are a really friendly bunch. In gliders you can legally fly solo aged 14 and get your licence at 16, and your gliding experience can count towards your PPL.

    I want to become a pilot and have 0 flight hours. I’m doing a-levels in computer science, maths and business. I would love to be a pilot. I’m from England. How do you think it is best for me to become an airline pilot. I’m 16 at the moment, about to start sixth form.

    • @StuartThePilot
      @StuartThePilot  6 років тому

      Hi George, Best thing to do is search on google to find your local flying school and ask to speak to someone there about your ambitions. They will be able to give you info on costs etc and book you in for a flight to see if you enjoy it. Keep me posted! Stuart
