    As an user of both multi-efxes, I go for NUX MG30, which is more dynamic compared to the Ampero. The Ampero might be easier for getting a decent sound, but the feedback of MG30 is way more better than the Ampero. Although dialing a good tone in MG30 could be a little difficult, the result always comes out perfectly, especially with some third-party IRs.

      @@TaylorDanley Did you try out setting up pre-eq or output eq? I've changed mine to lower the pre-eq input trim a little bit down (to have more knob range from clean to distorted) and pushed the lows in output eq up for more bottom end. This definitely evens the default to more bottom end which makes setting up tones a bit easier to my taste. Before doing that I often pushed the lows in the EQ block.

    In my opinion the Nux MG-30 is a lot more "musical" than the Ampero. Maybe it's generating more overtones or better overtones, like a tube amp compares to a solid state one. The Nux is like the tube amp. The sound of the Ampero is just brutal noise to me, the Nux is music.

    At first glance you’d notice the nux cutting throught the mix more so you’d assume the nux is better but if you listen a bit closely the nux has that dominant digital hissing sound while the ampero amazingly kept it under a manageable level even on high gain tones. In terms of digital mfx/amp+cab sims, i always try to find a device with minimal hissing on high gain sounds because it bugs me when you turn it up and you hear the hissing and in my opinion the ampero did better on this one. The shrill hissing reminds me of those old zoom mfx pedals hahahahaha

    The nux may have an effects loop but isn't the whole point of modelers is having all of the effects in the unit so it's in one convenient package? Of course, with that said, I do run a drop tune and a wah pedal ( since I use the pedal on the ampero as a volume control so I can have both at the same time) in front of the ampero.......but that's it.......
    I also thought the Ampero sounded better. I'm sure that has nothing to do with the fact that I currently own one...........

    • @aptfx
      @aptfx 3 роки тому

      You can use the 4 cable method to connect it to your amp.

    • @neilthomas8329
      @neilthomas8329 3 роки тому

      You can also run your favourite preamp (preamp pedal or your amp's) into the NUX MG-30 Return and use its IR loader and post-effects-loop effects.

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  3 роки тому

      Yes, but with an FX loop, you just have more routing options which is nice if you ever want to use a real amp, or other gear in conjunction with the unit.

    • @kcrich1310
      @kcrich1310 3 роки тому

      @@TaylorDanley So if you have an amp and cab instead of having a big massive pedalboard with tons of pedals you could run your small compact modeler through the power section of the amp then to your cab? Yeah, now I can see a use for that..........

  • @aptfx
    @aptfx 3 роки тому +4

    I had scrolled down to the comments and reading those "Ampero" sounds better while listening to the first Ampero part... which sounded quite fizzy to me. Then the first chugs of the MG-30 where hit and thought WOW.... scrolled up then 😅. One little tip on the MG-30 - depending on you taste it may be a valid idea to just push the bass in the global output eq a bit up. I think this will be a more satisfying default for many metal heads. @Taylor Danley: Did you setup pre-eq and/or output eq to anything else than the default?

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  3 роки тому

      When I did my review, I setup the global eq and boosted the low end dramatically. IMO you sort of have to if you want an even signal out of it. In this one I was just trying to get something without having to deep dive into too many parameters, I didn’t want to have to eq each one, but the mg30 absolutely DOES need to be eq’d to compare

    • @aptfx
      @aptfx 3 роки тому

      @@TaylorDanley I think a video about how to setup good metal tones with the MG-30 would be interesting. I would argue that you could make anything to chug with the knowledge and finesse on how to do it. In my experience, for metal, the MG-30 straight out of the box without tuning the global eq for e.g. more low end could leave a mixed impression. If one does bring out the low end though it really chugs af while keeping its quite organic/dynamic clear nature. When played with it first days I thought reducing the treble might be what it needs but I think I might have just fooled myself by making it actually to loud to bring out more bottom end which overemphasized the high end. Now with the bottom end boosted it sounds more even with full bottom end while retaining clear highs and mids. Reading that you might came to a similar default setup reassures me in that. :)

There's no way I'm buying a Nux (I usually practice alone and it's very useful to me). Yes the dynamic could be better, but to the other side, lack of connections and poor loop, in a device almost 4 years newer...
