When I was a kid, everyone gathered around the tv to watch 'The Wonderful World of Disney'. It was the highlight of the week, well that and Saturday cartoons, and a great way to get ready for the school week. I never tired of those shows. It's really sad that kids today no longer have shows like this that had shows about bravery and the hero's journey, the importance of family.
Every Sunday night the family got together and watched “The Wonderful World of Disney” followed by “Daniel Boone”. That was in the 1960s. Wonderful memories. I was always so pleased to know that Walt Disney and I both had December 5th birthdays, I adored him. I can’t believe what has happened to the Disney company today. Sad. But I was lucky enough to have these old memories.
In Australia, it was also broadcast at 6.00pm on Sunday nights, right through the 60’s. It was interrupted one night, with news of the death of Winston Churchill. 1965. Funny that I still remember that.

Interesting that it’s a Sunday Afternoon memory for you. On the east coast it was a Sunday evening for us. Marlon Perkins on Wild Kingdom came on at 7pm, followed by The Wonderful World of Disney at 8p. “In Living Color” of course.
Thank you for posting the beauty of Walt Disney!👍. As a senior citizen I was one of the fortunate ones growing up when Disney was the way Walt Disney intended it to be. I never thought I’d live to see such times as these with the world so upside down. It’s just mind blowing to me. Rest in peace Walt. We’ll remember how things were meant to be.
You've been brainwashed by right wing propaganda and culture war bigots who attack Disney for selfish political gain. Walt Disney was very tolerant and open-minded, he would never have joined your fascist anti-LGBTQ crusade.
The Walt Disney Company was never a right wing organization. It's films championed the little guy, the rejected and males who were gentle and sweet, not macho. Disney himself was nothing like the Evangelicals of today, he had no time for church or religion. The anti-"woke" fascists who attack Disney today would have Walt's contempt.

My mother said Walt would pause before going into discuss business with her dad and he’d kneel down and look at her dolls all set up along the floor and ask, “Well Cyd, what’s the story here?” ♥️
Growing up in the 1970's I remember watching The Wonderful World of Disney. In Chicago, it came on Sundays at 6 pm. Great show we looked forward to watching. Thanks for posting.
What a joy to see this old style animation! This was back before CGI, can you imagine how genius and creative you had to be? Now it's all code. Big deal.
The woodcut artwork yes.... I love the dark gritty nature of the old animated films this is from a time when animation was still considered a Mastercraft of Storytelling

Gotta love Disney's old teams of animators who did everything by hand up until Toy Story uncorked the CGI genie for Disney. The old animators put time, effort, and care into every line drawn back then.
At least I am not the only who feels that animation was forever destroyed when hand drawn animation was replaced with computer graphic imaging. Hand drawn animation took time, care, a lot of love, more human and more effective. Computer graphic imaging animation feels cold, phony, artificial and doesn't even feel like the characters in CGI have any human characteristics which you could see and feel with hand drawn animation.
I prefer old animation but CGI sculpting isn't easier, that's not the deal with why traditional animation looks better. It's actually a problem of texture and movement, CGI will never have the "fingerprint" of the illustrator. Traditional animation has the imprint of the strokes over analogue materials. It has a texture you could feel through the screen, illustrations had actual layers you felt you could dive your hands into, and cameras gave off this granulated look in harmony with actual "in place" lightning, which gave an overall feeling of warmth, like touching wood. Unfortunately, plain crystal screens from our phones will never imitate the feeling of touching wood or paper, no matter how many textured screen protectors you make. That's basically the problem. CGI requires just the same effort and understanding of techniques and physics as tradicional animation, but it will never imitate texture as reality does. Besides, traditional animators had one project at the time and were expected to take a prudent time to do the job. Now CGI animators are being exploited. But my point is, both styles require skilled people to the same degree.
Thanks for running these two items together. I saw them first in the early 1950's (in black and white) and again black and white 10 years later, since we didn't have a color set. I've often thought that this biography of Irving belonged with this rendition of SLEEPY HOLLOW. The Disney animation is still remarkable,, and Washington Irving remains one of America's most likeable and congenial literary companions. He was certainly the master of the weird tale and the ghostly story. His other writings are a treat, too.
I love the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I always loved Walt Disney's stories of real animals like mountain cats and raccoons. We watched them on Sunday nights. 😍
He's a good man. Perfect? No, but look at all the good that came from his work and for how many years. The woke idiots are ruining it, but Walt built it well enough, that it's taken 30 years for them to tarnish it
This was perfect... good for kids and adults alike. I had no information on the life of W. Irving, and this was very insightful!! It's always interesting to know a bit of history on authors and what drove them to write classics.
I LOVE the bio of Irving! I gather the narration was from Irving's works. As a writer I can identify with all of it! The bits about the legends and ghosts were based on stories he heard as a boy, I know that!
Disney never did anything for money, but frequently risked much financially to materialize his vision. He actually borrowed what he required to complete _20,000 Leagues,_ because he wanted the squid battle re-filmed after he spent thousands on it. He believed in what he did, did it well, inspired his people to do better than even they believed they could, and our childhoods were greatly enriched because of it. His successors were seldom worthy of his legacy. Especially now.
What a wonderful gem. This was prime-time viewing back when I was a kid. It's hard to imagine such simple, yet entertaining, storytelling being put on TV or the internet today.
This is wonderful! Washington Irving was such a great writer. Hopefully more people who enjoy Sleepy Hollow will read the rest of The Sketch Book. A delightful read!
Old Man: You know they say the whole valley's haunted by the ghost of a Hessian soldier whose head was carried away by a cannonball at White Plains. Some say he's an omen of death, others that he drives a carrage in which he traps the souls of those who are going to die. And others say he comes riding through here every night searching for his lost head Why I've lived here all my life and I've seen him riding through here a hundred times. Irving: Wow what did you do? Old Man: Screamed like a little girl, ran like lightning, and spent the last twenty years hiding under my bed crying my eyes out
Thank you for showing this Wonderful show!! 😊 Wow when a child could wonder around a big city ( without to much trouble) And some REAL History in there as well! 😊😊😊😊
Walt Disney was known for being a highly demanding person when it came to reach the highest standards in the movies his company produced.Had he lived 30 years longer, history would be the same but with the everlasting quality he always demanded.
This was in my recommended feed early this morning. I thoroughly enjoy these kinds of meandering visits in history. In this case it's two different periods in one! A look at early America through the lense of the 1950s. It also reminded me that i have trio of Irving's books, two were printed in 1903 and one (the Sketchbook) in 1908. Inside the cover is the name Greta Blossom, written in pencil along with some other notes. Chapters to be finished, definitions of words, page numbers. There's also a scrap of paper so old that it's turned brown and is as brittle as a butterfly wing. She also scrawled some notes on it, everything in cursive and about as sloppy as you would expect from a child (only slightly better than my own current handwriting 😅) I'm so disappointed in people today because they don't appreciate these tiny scraps of humanity. Greta wrote no dates (none that I've found anyway) so i have no way to know if she acquired these books as first edition or much later. I dont truly know if the marginal notes are all hers or some other person. One may only speculate! She's a total mystery. Either she or someone must have been a very well read young lady or gent! They checked off each chapter in the table of contents. How many kids today can lay claim to such a victory? I think it's time for us to turn off those phones and tablets and hand our children actual books and have them read out loud every evening after dinner..... it will only improve them.
It’s easy to see how after multiple generations of technology dependence how books could be lost/destroyed for some modern conveniences and yet with one click or a solar flare it’s all gone. Since there’s nothing new under the sun it makes one ponder past highly advanced civilizations.
This was really entertaining! I've read Sleepy Hollow many times, but didn't know anything about Washington Irving. Sunday nights were definitely Disney nights at our house.
I wouldn't say "destroyed." A better term is "lost their way." They can find the right path again. In the 1970's, Disney produced a bunch of films that flopped. BADLY. The Number One fantasy film producer in America had lost its ability to produce a good movie. Nothing lasts forever. It would take another decade or two before Disney finally found its mojo again. They started producing hit after hit after hit. Now, the company has hit the brick wall of wokeness. This won't last. It will take time, but Disney will be back because of UA-cam providers like Keeping Walt in Disney. They recall a better time. They serve as a reminder of what was once great, and can be great again.

Remember waiting for Sunday night at 7 to watch the wonderful world of Disney. Loved the "scarecrow" series. Now enjoy Disney movies with my kids and grandkids.
Beautifully animated story of Washington Irving! I wish I could get the whole Legend of Sleepy Hollow cartoon on UA-cam or find it on DVD. It's my favorite visual retelling of the story, especially with Bing Crosby's songs. I was a kid living in Ossining, NY in the 1960's. I rushed home on Sundays to watch Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color. My family had a black and white TV set, but it didn't matter.
Oh wow! What a great memory! The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is on Disney+ as the second part of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. It’s available on dvd or Blu-ray as well!
The language and the story told here. This is the way kids used to learn and half the time they didn't even realize that they were learning, they were just having fun watching a cartoon.
I finally recall watching the shows when they're on TV originally but I don't remember ever seeing the Washington Irving introduction before the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
We were just at Disneyland two weeks ago. It was beautiful and our family loved it. Whatever else can be said, we had a wonderful experience. All thanks to Walt Disney.
Another Disney show I didn't see when it first aired because I was too young. I've got the movie made from Sleepy Hollow and Mr. Toad combined but never knew this preamble piece on Washington Irving existed! Thank you for bringing it to us. 😊

Ahhh....the Disney of my youth...Walt would be heartbroken over its change.
The language and the story told here. This is the way kids used to learn and half the time they didn't even realize that they were learning, they were just having fun watching a cartoon.
Watching Wild Kingdom, then Disney, Sunday nights. Great stuff.
this was Disney at its peak....Make Disney great again...
Very rich animation and narration. Must had given children lot of hope to find their way in the world.
The Wonderful World of Disney was always a Sunday tradition in our home growing up. Fond memories thanks for posting. ❤
I finally recall watching the shows when they're on TV originally but I don't remember ever seeing the Washington Irving introduction before the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
I love this man, Walt Disney was a truly genius!
We were just at Disneyland two weeks ago. It was beautiful and our family loved it. Whatever else can be said, we had a wonderful experience. All thanks to Walt Disney.
We still have wonderful experiences at the Disney Parks! If you look for the good that is what you'll find!!! I agree with you...thank you, Walt!
Another Disney show I didn't see when it first aired because I was too young. I've got the movie made from Sleepy Hollow and Mr. Toad combined but never knew this preamble piece on Washington Irving existed! Thank you for bringing it to us. 😊
Growing up I had no father but every Sunday evening Walt would be on my TV screen introducing a show or talking about his dreams for Disney world .........for one hour every Sunday I would have the best of father figures. ❤️☮️🙏
Me Too! Sure loved Uncle Walt . . . I did a high school paper on him. Wish I had all the books then that I have now. A favorite is ‘How to be like Walt Disney’ Best I’ve ever read!!!
Poor Walt, rolling in his grave over what his legacy has become!!
If he was alive today seeing what became of his iconic business would kill him.
Old Disney, so much better then now.....
17:20
(The Headless Horseman cackled)
Bing Crosby: Man, I’m getting out of here.
Walt Disney: Man, I’m getting out of here, too.
Risë Hickey (Me): Same here.
My sister and i used to stay with my aunt and uncle on weekends during the summer, walt Disney and a bowl of ice cream or sherbet, those were the days
Walt Disney shared with us the life, the experience, the inspiration and the childhood about “Washington Irving.” One of the great Writers of the Past!
My favorite face to see on a Sunday night!
I enjoyed watching Wonderful World of Disney Sunday nights, my family went to Disney World after it opened and it was the best time i ever had when I was younger.
As a resident of Tarrytown I can say with 100% certainty that we don't have old western bumpkins who tell stories to little children while fishing.
Thank you for posting this. I love Disney nostalgia❤❤❤
All of the old Disney movies were innocent and fun. Thank you for the wonderful times.
Disney was such a force for good. Seems so long ago now.
The music is always perfect- every element is “crafted “
Description of the beauty and legends I grew up around!
That's Walt Disney himself!
Nice focus About Washington Irving!
Bing Crosby too!
Great line up🎉
Back when Disney was magic instead of...whatever it is now
I was thinking the same exact thing
Woke
@@raywideman7157woke equals 💩
Thank you!
It’s called Woke. And it’s NOT family friendly. I hope the ghost of Walter Disney haunts the current CEO and board of directors and gives them nightmares at night.
Thank you for making this content available.
This is probably the best possible counter to the malicious campaign of destruction that the woke have waged for years against Walt's amazing creative legacy. Well done.
❤😃👍
Walt was a good cut clean person
And an antisemite.
Loved me some walt disney when I was a kid miss them Saturday & Sunday
Guest Starring Ben Franklin, without Amos. The art in this is very well done and has an air of some of the Disney live films.
Wow... The animation and artwork are absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing this.
Oh, how I miss the old days of the 70s and 80s. Those were the best times.
I didn't know alot of this, this is fascinating 💛🙂🇺🇸
@@tiffanygrever8092 I discovered this for the first time when I posted. Fascinating, right? I’m so glad Walt told us these background stories!!
When Disney mattered! Doesn't today!
We all miss you, Walt. We are sorry for the state your company is in now.
Don’t be sorry. His company still makes millions.
@@BrentWilkins7777if all you care about is money. The pushing of woke ideology has ruined the brands legacy
What an insult to Walt Disney and all his dreams and efforts especially now
Not as much as I miss him
Unfortunately your comment shows right under the video for me and just pretty much ruined it. Can’t you keep your own ideology out and enjoy the show? 😕😖🤯
Thank you! I've never seen this before. And what a great idea for a channel. Can't wait to check out more!
Just so beautiful and dreamlike. True magic.
LOVE WALT DISNEY ❤
I'll Always Love you Hayden Panettiere
Say look at those little ones dancing to the rythm of the music
I am the same age as you. How well Disney's adventure and history stories shaped my desire to see the world and appreciate our country.
Wow. The legend of sleepy hollow is one of my fav Disney shorts but I have never seen this before.
We miss u mr disney your films and tv shows are so legendary and very special to our memories as kids and even as adults who still love cartoons
Gotta love it, all our favorites on 3 channels, sometimes 5.
I'm not sure about yall but I just visited Walt Disney World and I was treated well and had a good time. I still would love to see how it was then as well. Disney forever
