      I think this was Ronnie's protest around the rule. The foul and a miss rule was introduced as a way to stop professionals from intentionally missing snookers in a way that would result in safety, it was never meant to reward good snookers with 40+ points in fouls. Where a player is genuinely just trying to hit the ball, my belief is that a foul and a miss shouldn't be called, although determining that can be hard. This rule has completely baffled amateur players in Clubs everywhere, and alot of clubs have introduced variations now.

    The most WTF moments for me involved the miss rule. You can tell I have not watched snooker for many years because many clips (not just in this video) focus on players missing and having to retake the shot. I remember that did happen when I watched snooker but it was rare. Here, you can see frustration on the faces of players who have landed in a near impossible situation and cannot get out. Sure, they could knock the ball around the table and hope that it hits what it needs to hit, but how is that in any way entertaining? Instead, players end up being penalized 12-20 points until they get lucky. Also, since it seems to me that the referee gets to judge whether a shot is a miss, it is clearly open to bias. I bet this is probably something some people have argued about for years, but if your top players are protesting it then clearly something is wrong.

    • @TheMoonRover
      @TheMoonRover 2 роки тому

      Yeah, the miss rule was intended to stop top players from playing too safe and repeatedly missing as a result, the idea being that they must make their best attempt to hit, regardless of where the balls end up. It was never meant to reward near-impossible snookers in this way.

    • @nickllama5296
      @nickllama5296 Рік тому +1

      It used to be, in the early days of the miss rule, that you needed to make an honest attempt at hitting the ball, and if you did, the referee wouldn't call a miss. Nowadays it's just lazy. Miss a snooker? It's a miss.
      The rule specifically stated, when it was made, that "A miss will be called if a player, by fouling a ball, gains an advantage."
      Now the rule is "IF YOU SNOOKER YOU GET A MILLION POINTS LOLZ"

    • @SaddyTaz

      ‘I was having a lot of problems at home, with my family life,’ Ronnie told Eurosport. ‘I didn’t even want to be near a snooker table but I had to go and play because it’s work. ‘I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind at all. A few matches before that I wanted to shake the guy’s hand and walk out because I didn’t want to be in that environment. ‘I wanted to play but obviously there was a lot of stuff going on in my head that was upsetting really. That could have happened three of four matches before Hendry. ‘I just was out there playing Hendry and thought “I’m not going to win this match, I’m not feeling it, I don’t want to be here, I just want to get out of here,” I shook his hand and off I went. ‘There’s times now I’m sitting there thinking I’d rather be at home, I’ve had a bit too much travelling, but I wouldn’t do that again.’
