@Irishfootball25 When u hear that theme, u automatically think of those chilly fall afternoons at ur house watching the best college football program there is Notre Dame.
I mean no disrespect to Coach Bowden, he was a good coach. When you examine the amount of talent he had, he really under-achieved. FSU played a largely cupcake schedule save for Florida, Miami and obviously ND. He was given a Natl Title that really should have been ND's in '92 or '93. Let's talk great coach Howard Scnellenberger who really put a program on the map...and Louisville really, even though they haven't won a title.
Maybe one of the worst calls ever, but as a huge ND fan we have benefited from a great deal of good fortune as well. Love the game, love the tradition and competition in the college game. Your obviously a very big fan as well to remember that game.
How many teams in the Bob Davie era did we look to be unstoppable and March right down field for a TD only to let up KO for a score or 1 play for a TD, that would absolutely deflate our spirit.
Well we have plenty of other weapons besides Manti like our defensive line and then Tyler Eifert our stud tight end. I get how our team appears to you but you also have to remember that QB Everett Golson is a first time starter at the college level and we're still in the process of finding our next go to receiver after Floyd graduated so we're still a work in progress but we've been doing enough to get it done for the time being.
That '99 Irish team played in a ton of close games, and this was one of the few that they managed to win. And wouldn't you know it came against the next season's national champions.
ooooooh... the pain of this day.... from the thrill of victory... to the agony of defeat------ If ever there was a time we were gonna beat ND, this day was it-
I'm looking forward to the test...and it will be a very tough game. I do think the ND teams from '88 to '95 were very tough and could compete with anyone. Good luck this weekend!
I know my Irish are a good team, they're a little raw but they are talented. We'll definitely see Saturday and if I were you I wouldn't be getting cocky and writing them off just yet.
Well, this was the start of the Stoops tenure. Although a loss it sure was a glimpse of was what to come. The next year the Sooners won their only national championship under Stoops. Over the next six season the Sooner would play for the championship again 3 time, never winning, but cementing themselves as one of the best college football teams of the decade. How the Sooners have blossomed as the Irish have fallen.
i get what you're saying but like i said...im a miami fan...we took 3 national title appearances from them 89', 91', 92' 2003...they won a lot of big games they beat one of the best nebraska teams in the title in 1993...do you think ND could have beaten that nebraska team? i think it would have been a good game....yes godfather Howard S. put us on the map..if it was not for howard we would be nothing..in all honesty miami was the first boise state. this weekend...miami/notre dame will be EPIC!
Now I feel very old. The game was very different then, but until there is a playoff system in place there will always be doubt. Colorado benefited from a flawed system. At least the BCS uses a variety of formulas rather than a writers vote.
Why doesn't Dick Enberg do Notre Dame games anymore. I think he's better than Tom Hammond and Pat Hayden sounds a lot better than whoever took over this season 2010.
that was back in the day when i couldnt stay up to watch the good bowl games lol my parents would make me go to bed...i missed the 1991 orange bowl vs nebraska because of that but my dad was cool he taped it for me to watch the next day...my mom was not having it lol i hate the writers having anything to do with the process its too bias..i think they should junk the ranking system till about week 5. look at arkansas...they were ranked #8 based on hype.
It didn’t take Bob Davie long to ruin all of the momentum that Lou Holtz had built up in this program. Horrendous hire by the ND athletic director! The ND football program has never fully recovered from it. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say Oklahoma’s 1999 kickoff return team might be the best in NCAA history. At least they were on this day.
Also Jarious Jackson, Tony Fisher and David Givens, those 3 ended up starting in the NFL at one point or another. Why couldnt Davie succeed ??? Oh yeah No friggin D from a Defensive minded coach. Damn I can't wait until we torch him this year. #GoIrish
@Millennials...I get what you are saying, but look at the two QB’s you mentioned, they both just simply sucked. Each of their whole ND careers was a suckfest. At least Jarious Jackson was capable. And speaking of capable...Bob Davie...NOT capable. It’s why I love the people that criticize Brian Kelly. They either have a short memory or are too young to remember Davie, Weis, or Willingham each in their own special way running their respective programs into the ground. Coaching under the shadow of the Golden Dome is not for the faint of heart....or the mind lol
ohhhhh i was 10 years old i watched it live and remember it like it was yesterday to me college football was better back then the games were bigger and rivalries were bigger...colorado was a good team but they were not that good and i do not recognize them as the title holders plus because they had the loss to illinois 5th down against mizzou and a tie with tennessee..what kind of champion is that???
Pat Hayden better than Mike Mayock? Oh good lord. ND is blessed to have a real color guy for once who has real football insight rather than Pat Haydens silly saying's. Now Tom Hammond sucks.
Love how 45 lays a shoulder into the wideout on the reverse! That was awesome. Go Irish!!
I always loved the music intro they played right at the beginning of this vid.
@Irishfootball25 When u hear that theme, u automatically think of those chilly fall afternoons at ur house watching the best college football program there is Notre Dame.
I remember watching this game.
This was the first ND game I ever went to. Still have the gameday t-shirt. GO IRISH!

Notre Dame deserved at least a partial national championship
Maybe one of the worst calls ever, but as a huge ND fan we have benefited from a great deal of good fortune as well. Love the game, love the tradition and competition in the college game. Your obviously a very big fan as well to remember that game.

Need more Irish-Sooners matchups

Brandon Daniels didn't look especially fast on those kickoff returns, but my God, his blocking support was unreal.

This makes me feel old. I was at this game.
I was there in 99 and I just got back home from the game this Saturday in Norman.....needless to say the OU fans were impressed with ND. As am I.
My fault Deke Cooper was a Gamer !!!
Now its time to get them in Norman this time around GO IRISH!!!
I know my Irish are a good team, they're a little raw but they are talented. We'll definitely see Saturday and if I were you I wouldn't be getting cocky and writing them off just yet.
hey thanks man

Stoops drops an F-Bomb at 7:45.
i miss the old theme too. they used the music until 2005.

Omg......Oklahoma had a 30 to 14 lead in 3rd QT and could not hold it.
That alright we won all our games the next year 😅
I was at this Game!
Ohhh man that was good one
I miss the old nbc notre dame football theme song thing.
The curse struck OU once more. This curse needs to end!!
one game i will say ND got screwed out of was the 90' orange bowl..i still to this day cant believe they called that penalty..
Now I feel very old. The game was very different then, but until there is a playoff system in place there will always be doubt. Colorado benefited from a flawed system. At least the BCS uses a variety of formulas rather than a writers vote.

OU is gonna play the Irish this year - this should be interesting! GO OU!!!

Back when we could run the ball
Have you not watched this season?
Like if you watched this video to get you pumped for the October 27th Showdown in Norman, OK!!!! #BoomerSooner
Jim sanson tried his best to make Oklahoma win. But jarious made sure hw wouldn't get his way
Also Jarious Jackson, Tony Fisher and David Givens, those 3 ended up starting in the NFL at one point or another. Why couldnt Davie succeed ??? Oh yeah No friggin D from a Defensive minded coach. Damn I can't wait until we torch him this year. #GoIrish

@Irishfootball25
Me too!
How many games did Jim Sanson cost ND? One of the worst kickers in college football history in my opinion.
I do like Mayock
ohhhhh i was 10 years old i watched it live and remember it like it was yesterday to me college football was better back then the games were bigger and rivalries were bigger...colorado was a good team but they were not that good and i do not recognize them as the title holders plus because they had the loss to illinois 5th down against mizzou and a tie with tennessee..what kind of champion is that???
bad call at 8:10 look at his jersey. Pulled it off his shoulder pads.
actually the split t formation was invented by don faurot a mizzou coach
bobby bowden is not overrated....close your mouth....and im a miami fan...that dude brought FSU to prominence when that program was dead!
8-0
#BummerCummers
Special teams were AWFUL in this game.
Pat Hayden better than Mike Mayock? Oh good lord. ND is blessed to have a real color guy for once who has real football insight rather than Pat Haydens silly saying's. Now Tom Hammond sucks.
Bob Stoops is THE most overrated coach in the history of overrated coaches. Followed by Bobby Bowden!
Luck🥴
I was at that game!
