Well support them by using alternative transport in the days they are on strike. Then support them when they return to work after winning better pay and conditions. People on minimum wage are probably not unionised. That’s how their greedy bosses can get away with paying poverty wages. And it’s the government that sets the minimum wage not the train drivers

Did you not watch the video??? It's not about pay. It's about terms and conditions, meaning that the companies and the government want to implement reforms that will make it unsafe for passengers and for workers. It is the unions who are standing in the way of this tyranny in order to keep us all safe. Maybe you should consider thanking these courageous men and women risking their lives FOR US. And all they want in return is more pay, fewer passengers, shorter working hours, no redundancies as all jobs are important and necessary, lower fare prices, for Labour to be elected, and for the government to take back over the railway. That's what's fair. Please tell me what is so unreasonable about that. I see nothing mutually exclusive in their demands

@@Invictus357 I’m not talking about army wages, you referred to Japanese train drivers at 11k which is wrong as there wages are influenced by many thing like age, sex, line they work on types of train. I was taking the lowest wage at 55k approx. It just amazes me that people are comparing different jobs and there pay. But if you wish to compare was anyone forced to join the forces did they know what they were signing up for, don’t get me wrong I admire those who serve but comparing a specific job which may have its own merits on better pay is just wrong. But I’ll point out a fact before the railways were privatised a train drivers wage was 12k a year with add ons like night rates ect bringing up to around 18k once privatisation occured all these add ins were included in basic money and less conditions. So here we are some 20 years later and with modest pay increases where conditions have been given up the wages is where it’s at, also there has not been any pay rises for 5 years. Again you compare to Aus do remember it’s more expensive out there compared to us. There are 3 sets of key workers on the railway, drivers, signalmen, track workers, now isn’t it funny the two other groups sorted out there pay claims very early on but the rest of the Rmt were still in dispute a very good move by the government because without all 3 groups no trains can run in other words divide and conquer, some thing military you can appreciate

A ten year old kid could drive a train. It's not like in the days of steam when you had to generate the power to propel the loco. A train driver shouldn't get more than 45 thousand tops.

£65k to drive forward and backwards, bet it’s much harder and stressful to drive a bus in London!
I’d let them keep on striking until their pay was comparable to nurses, no annual pay increases until they reach parity.
They are oversubscribed for train drivers and it’s low skilled compared to other public sector roles where a degree is required. Unions are in clown world

being a train driver is not a highly qualified job its the equivalent of being a bus driver but less hazardous, you only move forward and backwards on a fixed line no weaving in and out of traffic or avoiding pedestrians at rush hour, they are very overpaid and should be taking a massive reduction in pay not a pay rise. that does not include the free friends and family train journeys and the 4 day week.

I look at the difference between driving a train and driving a 40 ton articulated HGV. A train driver doesn't have to steer and he doesn't have to negotiate busy roads and avoid hitting other vehicles. A train driver doesn't have to reverse into tight spaces or comply with a plethora of road traffic regulations. Bearing this in mind, I wonder how the average remuneration for an HGV driver compares to that of a train driver.

Jobs which have poor conditions are often hard to fill. Train drivers on the other hand are jobs which are really hard to get into because of the numbers of people that want the job. Which suggest its seen as " good job" despite what the unions keep saying 😮

@@glenm2825 My kids' school stayed open throughout and most of the kids who attended were kids of people who were working in a local hospital where COVID was (apparently) rife. The teachers recorded lessons for those kids who did not attend and uploaded them in the evenings. When you add up the hours unpaid work a teacher does the leave doesn't come close to it and that doesn't account for the time they spend in school during that 'leave'. How do I know? I've done it and left, partly because of it! Granted there are plenty of bad apples (activists rather than teachers) but as you have ably demonstrated, you find wankers in all walks of life.

These clowns are why rail should never be renationalised. Why should people who never use the rail network have their earnings stolen to fund their demands or underwrite the losses their actions create? If the operator fold then all the staff should lose their jobs, if they want to work for the next operator it will be on reduced terms or the dole. Their militant actions should have consequences and that consequences should be that the operator fails and goes under like any other private business. People who don’t use services should never be taxed more to pay for pay rises or underwrite losses. If the operator wants to cave to their demands, it should also fund it via price rises which people can either choose to pay or not. If they walk away and the operator goes under, tough.
