Patras Suburban Railway: Cab Ride Agios Andreas - Rio (2020)

Patras' Suburban Railway started in 2010, right after the closure of the rest of Peloponnesian rail network (exception: Katakolo - Pirgos - Olympia line). Since then, it has been proved to be the most successful rail service in Greece, while helping the locals travel between home, work, school, etc.
It stopped its full service on the 6th of April 2020, due to the new high speed railway line Athens - Patras that's being built. This has created many discussions, as there are many opposing opinions on the new line's path and the closure of the suburban railway.

Stadler - Bombardier GTW 2/6 meter gauge, train sets 4510 & 4508.

Ωραίο βίντεο, και σπάνιο (ως cab ride view δηλαδή της γραμμής αυτής). Κρίμα που δεν παίζει και ο ήχος.
Έχω πάρει το τραίνο αυτό ουκ ολίγες φορές, το πρόλαβα μέχρι και όταν μεταφέρθηκε η αφετηρία από τον σταθμό του Ρίου κάμποσα μέτρα παρακάτω προς Καστελλόκαμπο. Άντε να τελειώσει η σύνδεση με την Αθήνα και η υπογειοποίηση που ακόμη συζητιέται παρά τις δηλώσεις του υπουργού. Μα υπογειοποίηση του σταθμού Άγιος Ανδρέας; Περίεργο λόγω του μεγάλου χώρου του.

Hi, is there still a rail connection south from Patras to Olympia?

Hi, unfortunately not. There was a rail connection between Katakolo - Pyrgos - Olympia, but it's currently being renewed so there are no trains heading to Olympia for now. It is roumoured that soon works will begin to restart the rail connection between Patras and Pyrgos, but I wouldn't bet on it currently.

@@Steroumel Hi thanks for update I travelled all round the Peloponnese by train in 1970s and it was great. Even if it was to come back it wouldn’t be the same but it could be a great tourist attraction. The Covid has created another situation which nobody really knows how it will change everything in future. Best of luck and stay SAFE. David
