I've been listening to this podcast religiously for a very long time, and this is my first time of actually 'watching' an episode. It feels nice to be able to put faces to the voices I've heard for quite some time. Cheers, mates. As usual, I loved the episode.

40:02 This is so true. I was depressed these past few months and the way I've been able to come out of it was by surrounding myself with people and helping others.

The Barcelona example mostly works for people that never leave their city/village of origin because otherwise it can cause the opposite effect as it can make it difficult to enter new groups of friends as they are often very tightly closed kinda like an enlarged family which is the affiliation-culture that is very prevalent in Europe (especially southern Europe), Japan, Korea compared to the US (and America as a continent) due to a direct medieval cultural heritage.
What I mean is that a European style of Urban design would definitely be amazing in a culture like the US where egalitarianism and meritocracy are very prevalent but in Europe it kind of balances out other big problems and limitations that society has in terms of social openness (especially openness to outsiders)

Loneliness really started when people begun being independent from family and friends when it comes to sheer survival, it's kind of a side effect of meritocracy where you can just be good at your job and be granted an income while your family and friends connection doesn't really matter that much and in some cases even your social skill doesn't matter depending on the type of job.
I think loneliness will improve when society as a whole will improve in terms of politeness, psychology/neurodiversity awareness, low crime, welfare, safety etc because the main causes for loneliness really are social anxiety, rejection sensitivity, trauma, pathological masking (often the result of an undiagnosed brain disorder) and pathological narcissism.
And ye I think that technology can play a major role in alleviating these avoidance symptoms untill society as a whole improve and by the time society has improved we will probably be much closer to a transhumanistic society so it will not really matter that much if you interact with a robot or a human since you'll be partially AI yourself and society as a whole would be unrecognisable.
Edit: For reference, modern loneliness is kind of the opposite of affiliation, favouritism, corporativism, and all the group/family/tribe dynamics in which we humans have evolved into and that still very much the norm in developing countries culture where meritocracy and individual independence hasn't pierced into the local culture yet. As humans we're really not evolved for meritocracy, individualism, and total independence.
During the times when we go to school we're kind of forced into a tribal system which pushes us to socialise, finding friends, a partner and social dynamics in general. When school ends many people end up in job environments with colleagues that they don't like or just too small to generate social dynamics so when friends are naturally lost we often don't have the means and environment to make new ones especially because we're not pushed by basic needs to work ourselves into social dynamics.
Then as mentioned before, problems in society like violence, harsh rejection, high standards, etc and an individual mental/brain problems can make a person slowly fall into isolation and yea internet can definitely exacerbate that because it's generally a safer environment where you have a lot of control on interactions and on how much you expose yourself but that still a minor part of the problem because even isolated people that are internet addicts still want (rationally) to have friends/family connections let alone a romantic/sexual partner

Here the ChatGPT 3.5 answer, I agree with basically all of his contribution beside his take on human evolution because my prospective was purely biological on that without excluding any potential cultural evolution.
I particularly appreciate his contribution in terms of the necessity to engage and improve education on the emotional and socialization aspects which is a really good take that only a very advanced society would begin to implement tbch.
I also appreciate him pointing out that there are a variety of environments/occasions for socialise outside of the job environment (like the podcast host rightly has pointed out with the Barcelona video reference) like hobbies, sports, groups, and other social activities (that are still very hard tho in the case of specific mental or neurological disorders).
      Here his response:
Certainly! While the UA-cam comment raises valid points about societal factors and their impact on loneliness, there are various perspectives and additional considerations to take into account:
      1. **Impact of Technology:**
While the comment acknowledges technology's role in exacerbating loneliness, it might be worth emphasizing the potential positives too. Technology can facilitate connections and relationships, especially for individuals who find it challenging to socialize in traditional settings.
      2. **Societal Evolution and Loneliness:**
The notion that we are not evolved for modern societal structures like meritocracy and individualism is an intriguing perspective. However, society has constantly evolved, and adaptation is a natural process. The challenge lies in finding a balance that aligns with human social needs while embracing societal progress.
      3. **Role of Mental Health:**
The comment highlights various mental health factors contributing to loneliness. Recognizing and addressing mental health is crucial, but it's essential to also consider the broader spectrum of mental health issues and how they impact social connections.
      4. **Community and Relationship Dynamics:**
While discussing tribal and school dynamics, it's important to recognize that community and relationship dynamics can be shaped positively in various settings, not just limited to schools. Cultivating meaningful connections can happen in workplaces, local communities, or interest-based groups.
      5. **Solutions and Future:**
The comment suggests improvements in societal aspects. Additionally, focusing on educational initiatives that enhance emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, and fostering a sense of community could be pivotal in addressing loneliness. Empowering individuals to form genuine relationships is essential.
      6. **Cultural and Economic Factors:**
Considering the impact of culture and economic disparities on loneliness is vital. Social and economic policies that promote inclusivity, reduce inequalities, and provide equal opportunities can significantly influence loneliness levels.
      7. **Personal Responsibility and Awareness:**
Encouraging individuals to proactively address their loneliness, seek support, and engage in social activities can also contribute to alleviating the issue. Increasing awareness about loneliness and its detrimental effects can drive collective efforts to combat it.
It's important to approach the issue of loneliness from a holistic perspective, considering a wide range of societal, cultural, individual, and technological factors. Collaborative efforts involving society, institutions, and individuals are likely key to effectively tackling the loneliness epidemic.

as a tech show you could cover Israeli attack as it was reliance on tech and destruction of cell towers that was part of the failure.
Asoka is terrible and comparing it to other also terrible shows doesn't make it better.
