IRONMAN Mallorca 70.3 2024 - BRUTAL Conditions

- SUB5 SURPRISE 😳 🙌🏻
That was one of the toughest races I have ever done, with 31 degrees average temperature it was certainly going to be tight to get that time I wanted….and I managed it with 6 seconds to spare 💪🏻
The swim was beautiful! Calm, clear and no waves 🏊
Bike was tough with head winds for the majority of the route and being baked by the sun on the climb, I did loose some time to collect my carb bottle after a pot hole but still averaged 22mph over the whole course ⛰️ 🚲
The red transition carpet was like running on lava!
The run was BRUTAL! My legs felt rock hard but held a good pace for 2 laps, the final lap hit me hard and I had to stop for a few seconds to gather my thoughts before progressing! I knew it would be touch and go for that sub5…I really didn’t think I had it when I crossed that line 🏃🏻
I’m so extremely grateful for all the support on course from all Welsh clubs, it shows the amazing community we have in 🏴
And the icing on the cake was seeing my dad finish his first ever triathlon 🧁 👏🏼
Now let’s party! 🎉
Great video. I've signed up for next year's race. It will be my first 70.3.
@@TonyPurcell-xs2gc good choice!
I remember you passing me on the bike and thinking the colour of your bike was epic! Congrats on your race!
Thanks Laura! Where did I pass you? 🤣
@LewisfromUA-cam on the climb!! Not sure exactly where, it felt like it went on forever haha
@@laurabardsley6205 I LOVED the climb, so much fun! I found the last 10 miles to be absolutely brutal!
@@LewisfromUA-camThis! the headwind in that last 15k back to alcudia was horrible
@@jaymk265 agreed! And the windy roads feeling that you were going in circles 😂😵💫
Great video! I did this race too, and fully agree with you. Damn hot race, and no wind to cool us down. Also, tagging myself at 17:30. I remember seeing you filming, and you inspired me to do a quick vlog after you! :) Well done on a great time. Mine was 5hrs 53. I also got stomach pains at the start of the run, and it took me until 7k to shake it.
Great race Lewis, and maybe see you at another race! :) I will do this race again next year and try to achieve sub-5!
Thanks Christian!
Haha nice good spot, I do like to share the opportunity with others, tons of my followers have entered for next year already!
I think the heat played a lot with people nutrition, and fluids being warm didn’t help!
What’s next for you? 🙂
@@LewisfromUA-cam Next stop - IM Copenhagen on Aug 18th. Dead flat, amazing crowds, and my hometown. Goal is sub 10. So a 13 week training plan starts now, and more weight loss. Going from a 5:53 to a sub 5 x 2 is a mission for me! :)
How about you? Whats next?
PS I will also shoot a video about this Mallorca race. But it will take me a few weeks to get it filmed and edited. Credit to you for getting this out so fast! :)
@@paynetalent seems like Mallorca was a great warm up race! Good luck! 🙌🏻
Congratulations!
Thanks!
Great video Lewis. Can I ask what bottle holder do you have on your front cockpit?
Hey Terry!
It’s actually the metal bar that goes across to hold the Extension bars in place. There’s a hold in it that I then used to put a bolt though and hold a plate on. The plate had screws for the water bottle to be screwed into.
It came with spares box for the bike.
@@LewisfromUA-cam I’ve been having a look around and think I could achieve a similar result using one or the profile design bta bottle holders with Garmin mount.
@@terrycurtis260 on my old road bike I did exactly that! Used the profile design bottle holder in the middle of my extensions 🙂
Great video, well done , savage time, especially in such tough conditons.
Genuine question, but how do i stay in a pack ,but still not draft. Thinking of doing a triathlon for the first time, but don't want to be disqualified
Hey Stephen!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
I normally look at the middle road markings and use that as a way to keep the distance in-front, I normally leave 2/3 while line road markings to make 100% sure.
@@LewisfromUA-cam thanks very much
@@StephenCowley-zo2rq no worries!
Pants on fire 👖🔥
It was not average 32degrees. Didn't go over 25 all day.
Watch showed me average of 32 degrees with a max on top of the col of 34.8! 🔥
The pharmacy in town was also showing 31!
@@LewisfromUA-cam you need a new watch, mate. Anyway, great performance and great time.
@@nelsonbarnez5891 I wish haha! Cheers bud 🙏🏼
