I know i would have loved his music if i had heard it back then, i like it now. There was such a huge array of music to choose from and different styles were normal.
Just discovered Dennis Wilson's solo stuff recently. Sometimes have mistaken a song for Wilco when it plays on shuffle. He was really great and underrated.
Notice Karen is smiling in all the pictures, but Dennis right next to her isn't. She was married to Robert Lamm from the band Chicago prior to being married to Dennis. Maybe she was just after rock stars, I don't know, but she was a model and actress, and she had one huge hold on Dennis. He once said in an interview while they were divorced after the 1st time(married her twice), that if ever he had 2 lovers, it was music and Karen. Their 2nd marriage lasted 2 wks before divorce was filed again.
Maye McDonald Dennis at time of death was married to Shawn Marie Love. Illegitimate daughter of mike love although mike denies she was his daughter had a son Gage named for Dennis’s dad Murray whose middle name was Gage.
This solidifies my theory on each member of the Beach Boys Brian- The Brains Carl- The Heart Dennis- The Soul Mike- The Voice Al- The Bond Bruce- The Body
The opening music to this section is from " Be With Me", Dennis' masterpiece from the 20/20 Album. When I bought it & 1st played it, " Be With me" just so knocked me out, I must have played it 30 times in a row. It is just gorgeous, & was for me, a perfect offset to Al's folk-country feel on " Cottonfields", Bruce's beautiful " The Nearest Faraway Place", & Carl's brilliant " I Can Hear Music". One of the greatest strengths --musically--of The Beach Boys, was just how different the 6 of them were, & yet, how it all could blend so perfectly. If only drugs / alcohol hadn't ruined everything ! I saw Dennis with Barbara, & I recall how much in love they were at the time --[ '71 concert, Santa Monica Civic ] --SHE was his best influence. Wolfsky9
When you color outside the lines the collective will try and pull you back, Dennis was a rebel. People don’t like to be around things that are different they can feel threatened out of their comfort zone and reminded of what their not doing themselves ( taking risks to see how far they can go ), which could result in rejection.
Why does it seem that only recording artists go into the studio, and "magically" the music gives them all this bonding, and the energy to stay up 2 days no stop? Its as if music, done with the right people creates the ultimate profession everyone longs for: A vocation where your love and your job is the same, in an atmosphere youd rather not be anywhere else, with PEOPLE youd rather be with than anyone else. Plus it allows you to keep going eg-(James Brown,Frank Sinatra) till you are 88 yrs old!
Web, you have a point. Why wasn't all this "sex symbol" stuff released when it could have made them more money? Most fans never knew a fraction of what they are showing here. What a waste.
I am a huge BB fan and I think POB is better than PS as well. That vulnerable guy inside that macho armor. His songs are just heartbreaking. He reached places Brian could only dream of.

@25Robbo25 the song is be with me from the beach boys 1969 album 20/20. the CD reissue is a double play from 1990 with 2 albums, friends-20/20. don't know if it exists anymore but if ypu can find it on ebay or whatever it is well worth the money. it includes a few dennis wilson gems and is probably my favourite beach boys CD. hope this helps
Of course musicians express themselves (in every way) though music. If they are addicted &/or alcoholic -especially if all around them are enabling, they will spiral-out of control until they straighten-up or die. That's all. Yes it's tragic. And unnecessary. -especially when they have everything else already. I'm afraid it's his own fault.
@@barron975 , Dennis Wilson did not write that song. he didnt sing it on the original recording either. he would sing it during shows while half fucked up on drugs/booze . thats it.

So beautiful rip 💕💕💕
Dennis seem to be a free spirit. Dennis and the water are one. G9 Dennis swim into heaven where you are bound and do your thing.❤🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤🎸🎸🎸🌈🧒🎤🙏
Damn finally taking the time to do a Dennis deep dive and jeez
He was great singer just like brain wilson

I have a feeling "The Dude" was a tribute to Dennis.
I agree! I didn’t care for the movie but the character reminds me of Dennis.

@random666777 I hope you know his album Pacific Ocean Blue!!!?!
Yes, but u must admit he is the snappiest of them all. 🥰🤪😇💞💋💙💯
I can now see why Mike Love was so damn jealous of The Wilson’s...especially Dennis!
You know it!
True!!
I'd be pissed off as well if the Wilson's were destroying a good thing ...can't blame Mike love really

Does anyone remember Karen Lamm not me. Love Denny though just a young teen thru these times
Love Pacific Ocean Blue, I'd recommend it to anyone whose interested in great music.
Antonio Skyrunner it is, and his voice is terrible from years of abuse. It’s still a great album. Could you imagine if he took better care of himself?
Brian Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Carl Wilson = The Beach Boys!
You might like Mike and Al’s choices in the course of the band but they are complete core Beach boys
Al > Mike

In fact Brian pinched 'Riversong' and regurgitated it into 'Rio Grande'. I would blame Eugene Landy for this.
