This isn't directed at you but in fragrance reviews in general, I never understand why anyone would be interested or concerned with how a fragrance smells right after you spray it on knowing that that smell is only going to last, what, less than 30 seconds? The most important to me is the mid and end dry down because that's the scent you are spending your day with not the opening. Many people complain about openings but openings to me anyway are not why I am wearing a fragrance. Yes I understand first impressions are important but if you are going to judge a fragrance seconds after you spray it on you are going to be quick to not give the fragrance a chance to do what it is intended for and that's to wear it for the day. You aren't going to find that many if any frags that smell the same as right when you spray it to 6 hours later. So simply put the first minute or opening is the least important or even not important at all unless you are respraying every 5 minutes. Anyway this is just my rant and it's not directed at anyone it's just something I have noticed in the fragrance world as of late.
I definitely see where you're coming from and for clarity, my review isn't just based on what I smell on camera. Becoming a fan of fragrances is an exercise in indulgence in many ways. Why do we care about bottle design as if it'll be draped on our neck instead of sitting on a dresser that no one will see. I personally don't put too much weight on the opening, but I can see why some may, so i try to make note of it. I'll speak for myself, but one of the personal joys of wearing the fragrances is the first hour or two before my nose becomes more and more desensitized to it and that first spray represents the fragrance at it fullest for the wearer(This fragrance is a perfect example). Practically speaking, especially with cheaper fragrances sometimes you'll pickup something that is unfavorable that maybe slight in the drydown but the fact that your smelling for it can taint the wearing experience. Definitely an interesting conversation to be had and I appreciate your insight.

Thank you for your detailed review! You may have just articulated what I can’t stand about so many of these BR540 ‘clones’. I’m just gonna say it: Oil Perfumery is the only dupe of Baccarat worth trying for those like me who don’t appreciate how many of these houses duping BR540 just amp their clones up in a suffocatingly heavy way to the ends of the earth and back. (I’m not sponsored by OP By the way, this isn’t an adverts I purchased all OP oils with my own money and I’m not an affiliate I promise lol). Oil pErfumery’s version of BR540 and Extrait smell the closest and give the most nuanced beautiful version of how these fragrances are meant to be perceived, in my opinion. They’re quiet, understated, but still bold and make a statement. So many times I’ve bought decants (and in 2 cases, full bottles) of dupes that make me turn me head from the general direction I sprayed so quickly, I get whiplash and my nostrils burn and my nose is turned into past tense just based on how frustratingly SCRATCHY and SYNTHETIC they smell. That part of them just overpowers any and every other note in the fragrance, and each time I’m thinking ‘nah that’s just gonna be the opening. Let me wait for the dry down and then that will go away.’ But it NEVER does. I’m just like, whyyyyy 😭 I can’t stand overtly loud fragrances, which sucks because I’m currently waiting on Untold to arrive at my doorstep. Just from hearing your thoughts and description of it, I can tell it’s gonna be going up on my Mercari pronto 😂

the reason you're smelling alcohol opening is because its an alcohol carrier that the fragrance is being preserved and delivered. the alcohol will disappear in seconds its not part of the scent profile.
Correct, while I don't put too much weight on it myself because of those reasons, it is still important to note as even between the 2 one is way stronger.
Following the strong recommendations of the Fragrance Apprentice, I managed to find a sample of Allsaints Sunset Riot & did a side by side with BR540 from the Mecca store. He's right.
Ive been using untold for 2 weeks now and im really really enjoying it! I need some advice, should i purchase a back up bottle and keep it till i have completely finished the first bottle i bought or just use it till its finished and then re purchase? What is your advice?☺️ tbh im leaning towards more on the side of using my bottle completely then re purchasing once im finished with the first but i am just slightly worried about re formulations😩
Depends, for me,my enjoyment of fragrance is exploring with my senses and even if I like a dna I can find a twist in other fragrances to fill that need (But also I’ll probably be hard pressed to run out of scents). But a rational take would be to wait 6 months or until it’s half full (whatever comes first) to commit to a second bottle, seeing as the scent profile is prone to nose blindness I’d give a little time and your risk of a reformulation is low.
@@leemillion5161 thats the best advice i have received even tried looking up on google for some advice and forums! Thank you soo much Lee😃 i will either way 6 months or till the bottle is slightly more than half way empty as i have allot of fragrances im sure it will take a long time😁
Thank you, this was the comment I've been looking for. My bottle of Milestone does this weird "sweating" thing if I don't use it for a couple of days, which is my only gripe about the scent. My take is tainted by the fact that I'll wear whatever(and recommend anyone wear whatever they love), although I'd like to think I'm fairly astute to perceptions of gender conformity within fragerances. With that said, I'd fence sit and say, like BR540, it's unisex. The sweetness screams feminine, and maybe a few years back, it'd only fit that, but with the gourmand focus in male fragerances it's not a hard sell that with it's notes that it's a male fragerance as well. If I was forced to choose with untold, I'd say masculine as it's not as effervescent as it's more like the extrait, which brings more core notes to the front.
Have you had any funny or embarrassing reactions to fragrances you’re wearing? And have you ever had any funny or embarrassing reactions to fragrances others are wearing?
Its profile is like a half step between the extrait and the og and is the closest dupe I've smelled. Its longevity is 8+ hours, although some people become noseblind to it quickly. Overall, A+, if you are obsessed with the DNA, then you'll still find value in the original, but for everyone else, this replaces it.
Dapper Fragrances, Alexandria Perfumes, USA Inspired Fragrances and Dua Fragrances all have GFS dupes, but I’ve never tried them (I prefer GFG) so I can’t speak to the similarity.

There's three possibilities I think are likely if you buy from a reputable store: 1. Bad Batches 2. Time for maturation 3. Nose Blind/Smelling to closely I think it's probably more from 3, as with the original BR540, the best it's ever going to smell will be on someone else as you can pick up all the details wafting in and out. I had to rely heavily on spraying strips with both of them to fully compare. Funny enough smelling the og side by side smelled almost like nothing but the initial alcohol smell. Although, as mentioned in the video, compared to the original after drydown of a minute or so you should be able to smell a substantial base smell of sorts close to the skin so if you don't get that you may want to reach out to the place you bought it.
