I’m so excited that I finally was in Lancaster on a Tuesday. Definitely worth a visit, sadly we didn’t come hungry. Next time will for sure. I do believe I prefer Green Dragon, but both are wonderful.
Ha! Yes 😀🤩👍. Only the locals and/or loyals know how to say it right - my grandparents and great grandparents had a thick Pennsylvania Dutch accent so I grew up hearing it the right way - they used to go over most weeks :). It’s a cool place 😊👍
Roots and Green Dragon are the best thing about Lancaster County. Tourists definitely need to visit here to get all the Lancaster County delicacies that are twice the price on Rt 30 and 462.
Thanks for commenting, Michael, yes Roots is pretty spectacular in volume and prices. My family has been going for 4 generations:). I really look forward to trying Green Dragon someday!! I’m pretty sure it’s record breaking :)
@@thecardsaysmoops3 I believe you are right about the Green Dragon. I looked them both up quickly. The Green Dragon has about 60 acres and 90 vendors. I don’t think Roots has as much acreage but they do have over 200 standholders. So the are both big in their own respects ☺️👍 Have a great time on your visit!
Thanks for this video, we come here often. We especially like coming here right before the major holidays. We have brought several friends along and all of them loved Roots. It’s over a 2 hr drive for us, but well worth it. Take care.
Roy, what a great idea to go before holidays! I’ve actually never done that bc we always go in summer but I think I will have to try this for sure!! Thanks for commenting ☺️👍😊
I love Roots! I'd much rather shop there than any other mall or market. I know personally about 1/4 of the stand holders there so it is like visiting good friends every Tuesday. They are so down-to-earth and grounded, true salt-of-the earth. Not to mention the food is absolutely delicious! God Bless all there.
Great video! We enjoyed roots. This brought back great memories, bologna sticks and the mead (honey based wine of the Vikings). Looking forward to our next trip.
That was great. Would like to get up there when it’s a bit cooler. My 92 yr old mom wants sticky buns and a shoofly pie. Lol. Need to get a pie that isn’t dry. Advice on the best stands would be appreciated.
Oh how sweet that you get to take your Mom there! Yes I think Fall is a great time to go, cooler and lots of color around! When I was at Roots it was awful hot! But still fun :). As far as recommender stands for Shoo Fly Pie, I have not tried them all but out favorites are Countryside Bakery inside, between buildings one and 2 (right in the middle) and an Amish run stand right outside building 6 - if you walk straight out, you would walk into it. It’s right across from the entrance. I don’t know the name 😆🤪 but we have bought goodies from them for many years. If you like the wet bottom shoo-fly pie, you could double check that they have that kind 👍☺️ As far as Sticky Buns, I would highly recommend Mary Janes Bake Shop in building 3. Hope you get to go soon!!
Thanks for bring back such great memories. UA-cam put your video in my recommended list after I saw the one made by ResslerMania. He also does a lot of collaboration videos with other UA-camrs in your area. Have you ever worked with him? Anyway, nice tour. 🙂
Hi there and thanks :) No I have not heard of him but will look him up :) I live out of state but visit as often as I can (and get lots of pics and videos). LOVE Lancaster! Thanks for commenting 😊
Hi James, the address is 705 Graystone Road in Manheim PA 17545 It’s basically Northwest of downtown Lancaster and southwest of Lititz. I have lots of videos on my channel if you want more info to help plan for your trip 😊😊👍👍
It’s an AWESOME market - almost everything you can imagine, they sell here. So this was 2021 so I think some people just weren’t ready to sell again bc of COVID or they stopped their business bc of Covid. That’s my guess
@@ElleLiving Make sense. Thanks for the great introduction to Roots. I can't wait to explore it. I can't believe there were so many meat places in there.
Do you know why they are only open one day a week? Doesn’t the perishable items like meat and fresh vegetables have to be packed up again and taken home when they close up? It seems like a tremendous amount of work for only one day.
Hi Sue, I could give your the classic response of “that’s the way it’s always been done” but that’s not very helpful 😂😂😄😄. I don’t really know for sure but I do know that there are many markets in Lancaster and they are all open on different days of the week and many of the fresh food vendors rotate around to those markets selling their goods. I also suspect some of their “off” days are when they are working their farms and/or preparing for market days since many of the vendors are from local farms. That is my best answer ☺️👍
OMG you asked about my fav thing...peach butter!! Last time I went to Lancaster (and to this very market) my car was so loaded down with stuff there wasn't room for another pen in it lolol. Almost made my friend hold her suitcase LOL. There was an Amish affiliated company I used to order from, but they are gone now, and I've been looking for someone legit who ships. If you see this, years later, and have been converted to the joys of Peach butter (AMAZING not only on breads, but to top pork & skinless chicken before cooking. Seals in moisture & the flavors are great. I do the same with Apple & pumpkin butters...I can get those more easily here in MA) Oh how I wish I were closer. BTW found this video as I was telling a friend how much I miss Roots. She was going nearby, sadly not on a Tuesday.
@@ellenw391 your comment made me smile!! 😃 ☺️😍 It’s easy to stuff our luggage or cars with all the goods from Lancaster for sure!! Your story was so funny 😂 As far as peach butter, have you tried Kauffmans Fruit Farm and Market. They ship - have a website. Also, maybe Stoltzfus Meats/Market in the town if Intercourse. They also have a website and ship all over 😃 How often do you go to Lancaster?? Thanks for your fun comment!
@@ElleLiving Hey there!! Thanks sooo much. Sadly, no luck. I had been to Kauffman's in my hunt before & just doubled checked. I can order as many as I want from them, for 20bux a jar!! Might as well drive there and load up my car again lolol. Got briefly excited about Stoltzfus, as they have free shipping over 100 bux (which I sadly could see spending lol), but no peach butter. They have Apple & Pumpkin, but I can go a few minutes down the street to Trader Joe's and get their pumpkin butter for $2.99 (and it's good lol). Actually used it last night on pork chops. I had thawed some, and commenting to you cemented my dinner plans!! I grew up in NY and we would vacation in Lancaster ever summer. The resort is still there, with a new name. It started as Host Farm & has changed hands many times. My Dad was a avid golfer so we were all happy. Mom & I hung at the pool, went to the daily cocktail/lunch parties while Dad golfed. Then we'd go explore some days. I moved up to MA years ago and it is a terrible drive from here. They say 6 hours but I've never made it in less than about 8 (including a lunch break). Last time there were floods and rain so it was about 10 hrs, and I was with a legally blind friend (the one I almost made hold her luggage LOL). So my trips have gotten farther apart. I wish there was an easier way to fly in. Not helping, in 2019 I had a very major surgery on my left leg. I can still drive PHEW, but longer I leave it down, the more it hurts. So driving that far will be hard. I really hope to make it back...maybe stay over a night or two in NY on the way. Not sure. This summer flew by, so maybe next year? It's been WAY too long!! Plus I'm driving a car with a bigger trunk now!!! Oh the hoarding possibilities are so much better lolol
@@ElleLiving PS I still hope to find a better shipping situation. I had the card to my favorite roadside stand, and they ship!! They carried a few local brands. Also, the best cinnamon buns I've ever had, which is saying a lot since I've been going to Lancaster most of my life! Sadly, I had massive pipe bursts in my home a year ago, and so much vanished including those cards (which were in a stack with some forever good Disney passes). I was so annoyed!! So I know there are some options, just not sure I can find them again unless I get back at least one more time
@@ellenw391 oh my! So sorry about the pipe bursting! How very sad to lose both Lancaster contacts and Disney passes!! 😫 2 of my favorite places, btw 😊 Well I’ll try to keep an eye out for that. Actually maybe I’ll ask my UA-cam community- someone may have a contact for that!! Hope you get to make it down too. Sorry it’s difficult to do so. Hopefully u can enjoy videos too when you can’t be there. I would also suggest the channel “Quiet Places” as they also make Lancaster UA-cam videos 😊👍

Good to know! I have yet to go to Green Dragon! Our Fridays are always so busy! Glad you tried it 😍
I'm so glad you pronounced it the right way! 👍😊 We go every now and then. It's a nice way to spend half a day leisurely.
