    Thanks for pointing out the differences. I had no idea of the 2W and 3W versions, before watching your video.

    Very nice review. My 2W is my first Chromebook. Still enjoying it. I have no need to update at this time. In another year or 2 the differences should be much greater, and I will consider an update then. Thank you!

    • @tac-com2574
      @tac-com2574  2 роки тому

      Yeah, if you already have the 2W, there's no need to upgrade.
      The upgrade is rather small. Worth it if buying a new Chromebook, but not worth the extra dough if you're happy where you are.

    Had a 713 since Dec 2022. Didn't realise the different versions. Believe I have the 3W based on chip and disk and port locations. Love it. I'd never go back to Windows if I had the choice, but this is my daily driver and used a lot more than my Surface Pro 4 (yes 4).

    Excellent video. Great content. You should be getting more views. I was your 100 thumbs up. My only suggestion is if you're not moving around you don't need auto focus on. Turn it off and your blurry shots will go away.

      Yeah, I couldn't get the focus oggle on my Webcam to work :/
      Most stuff is being shot on my phone now though, so it should be less of an issue....hopefully :)

    I have these. My work gave be a W2 a year ago, and I just bought a W3 to replace my Windows8 laptop that kept getting hacked into. The only differences I noticed (before watching this video) where the ports (it was nicer to plug in power to either side), and the fingerprint reader (I live in the UK). My top tip (being "desk kit" for me) is to add a USB hub to both.

      I'm not really using much power when using mine, so it doesn't kick on much - and even then, I've usually got the TV on or something... So it's never really been too noticeable.
      That said, I know some have complained about the noise. Maybe I got lucky? Or maybe they're stressing it a bit more.
      So sorry, it's hard for me to really give a complete answer :/

    Great review even if I'm way behind. Just picked up a used 2021 model which should arrive shortly. Your video confirms my decision, as the benefits of the 2021, especially used, make it a great valuie.

    The 2021 model blows the 2020 model out of the water on speed. Considering you can get the 2021 for about $529, it's a no brainer. Spend the extra money. The ONE downside is the speakers. They're really not very good, nor loud. If they improved that, it'd would be perfect. The next closest chromeook in terms of being this fast is an Asus and it's 1k+ price. And it only has a 1080p screen. But it has better speakers. I'll take that trade-off everytime. And I'm sorry, but the U.S version doesn't have a fingerprint reader, and I could care less.

    Are the weight and dimensions exactly the same between the two devices? I tried out the first one but it seemed quite chunky.

    • @tac-com2574
      @tac-com2574  2 роки тому +1

      They're not exactly the same, but pretty close. The newer one does "thin out" a bit near the front.
      What do you mean by "Chunky"? Could it be the 3x4 aspect ratio that's throwing you off rather than the 16:9 that most are used to?

    Have you tried the chrome extension volume master? I've tried it with other Chromebooks and it helps . Also if you could add some sound samples when comparing sound . As well as some video samples on both .

    • @tac-com2574
      @tac-com2574  2 роки тому +1

      I haven't tried that extension, I'll take a look.
      I thought about doing some side-by sides for audio and visuals, but it just wasn't worth it - or it didn't seem worth it.
      For video, the screen brightness always blows out the shot, so it's hard to tell good quality. Also being I'm recording with either my phone or a C920 webcam, the video quality kinda lacks and is hard to tell the difference.
      For audio, I've seen a few videos where they do back-to-back comparisons, and again, it's sorta hard to tell and didn't seem too valuable.. You always need something to "baseline" it to, and not everyone has the same phone/computer/TV that you can use as a baseline. It also is dependent on the quality of the mic that you're using to pick up the audio. I guess a comparison between 2 laptops wouldn't be too bad to say which is "better".
      .
      For these 2 in particular, the sound is certainly better on -3W. Still not amazing, but when comparing back-to-back, it was certainly better. Visuals were essentially the same. I didn't notice any difference unless I literally put them side-by-side and which point the -2W was slightly dimmer (very slightly).

      @@tac-com2574 I finally got the Acer spin 713-2021 model and yes speakers are pretty low it's kind of sad but the good thing is is that the volume master Chrome extension does make it a lot more usable I mainly use it from home so if I need to I just connect to Bluetooth speaker and that gets the job done other than that man I am I'm actually pretty disappointed in the the camera it's so grainy I I wish they just invested a little more in that I mean seriously like smartphones even cheap ones like for example my Pixel 4A 349 takes great selfies it's also good what at you know videos I don't know I I do feel like they drop the ball on that one other than that I actually really like the keyboard feels premium to me the trackpad is I love it it's super smooth it just feels nice and just for notice I usually use a mouse a separate mouse but I've actually use the the trackpad more because it's just so smooth it's nice the screen it's freaking beautiful I can't believe it honestly it's so bright in the colors are so vivid it absolutely blows away my previous Chromebook that I had it was the Acer Chromebook 315 grant you that it had a 1080p IPS panel I also got that one on a great price but there's no comparison the 713 screen is ridiculous I'm trying to figure out how to extend the battery life because it's not as great as my 315 and I can see why cuz of you know the screen is just moving a ton of pixels so I understand that but that's you know kind of when I wanted out of my Chromebook was a long battery life

    This is really hard to buy from Australia and even trying to buy it overseas is difficult. It doesn’t tell you if it is a 2W2020 model or 3W2021 model. Do you know why that is? My husband was saying that it’s probably just because it’s not been released in Australia.
    Thanks for your reviews. I really appreciate them!

      The easiest way is to look at the hard drive and processor. If it has an 11th gen i5 processor and 256GB of storage, then it's a 2021 (3W). The 2020 model has a 10th gen i5 and 128 GB of storage.

      @@tac-com2574 Thanks for your speedy reply and advice! I don't buy tech gear very often. I only research when I need to buy something so I might be missing the obvious. There are a few 10th gen, but only one hit of 11th gen that ships to Australia. The search terms mostly brought up Acer Swift, Aspire and Nitro models, and only old Spin models. Thanks anyway. I put my name on a waitlist on Amazon.

    Does the new one has finger print login ?

    • @tac-com2574
      @tac-com2574  2 роки тому +1

      The 713-3W does not have a fingerprint reader by default - and most models don't have it.
      However, some of the more recent ones are starting to ship with it - but I think they cost extra. I've only ever seen the ones with fingerprint readers available to a few reviewers (early on), and for sale in Europe. It may be available in the US, but I haven't seen it.
      So yes... it CAN have a fingerprint reader. But most that you'll find don't have one.

    DO NOT BUY. You cannot get parts for these. Trackpad failure is a common issue. If this happens, you'll either have to use it as a notebook (i.e. touchscreen only), OR, use a standard plug-in mouse (a PITA). Whatever...GLTA. I own 2 of the W2's, and have had problems with both: Screen on one (under warranty computer was replaced), and trackpad on the 2nd (un-repairable as there are NO FREAKIN' replacement parts !!)

    I own one. Bought it in Sept. 21 - So far: terrible UIX. This laptop struggles to play a video. VLC media player is what you can play a video with. Not working. Video and Audio card is basically broken. Wi-Fi: basically broken. The flip screen, use it as an ipad gets old almost immediately. I never use it.
    Avoid at all costs. ---If you must, get the non Microsoft OS version.
