Brother this must be by far your best upload by all means. Needless to say the empathy anyone should feel towards Cambodians and their tragedy. Spread love and peace!
I am considered a tuff, strong man, or was in my younger days. I have now retired in Cambodia. I still remember my first and only visit to one of The Killing Fields. My reaction was the same as yours. I will never return to any sort of Killing Fields ever again. It affected me badly. But I will always remember and never forget what happened in this beautiful country to such amazing people who suffered so badly. Though that terible time in her past history, from that regime. ❤
I'm sorry for Mr. Sam's great loss. Being in Cambodia I'm sure you go about aware that so many older person you see have horrible memories of the genocide. They may be smiling but the hurt is still there I bet. Thanks for the video.
Cheers mate. That’s true. Everyone who’s 50+ has gone through a lot of horrific times. Let’s hope this will NEVER happen anywhere anymore ❤️ thanks for watching again 🏆
Mr Sam a fantastic guide with so many painful memories of what happened there however comfortable enough to relive it all in these tours he does. I was getting rather emotional for him and I could clearly see, so were you, big time. Top video Chai. Thanks for sharing mate 🤩
Ey Steven, it was an emotional day with laughter and tears. I feel so fortunate I met Mr Sam who’s the perfect person for this video. 🤗 no no, thank YOU for watching again 🙏
WOW, what a touching video. Thankyou for uploading it. I really learnt alot. Thanks to your video's , Cambodia is now high on my list of places to visit. Greetings from Perth Western Australia.
Thank you, Chai for showcasing this story. It was such an emotional story to witness from Mr. Sam. He told such an amazing story and a genuine one as well. Yes, to this generation many Cambodian still have this emotional scars and lost someone within the family; in my case, my grandfather. That's why the people is so friendly towards others since most of them are carrying this traumatic experience. And yeah, everything in the country is not as bad as the posts or comment section would have you to believe. Btw great vlog as usual, chai. Cheers.
Thanks Champ, I've been to Cambodia but only to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap and did the Killing fields tour in the capital but you forget that this terrible and sad event happened everywhere in the Country. I remember being there and having a conversation with a young female backpacker from the USA who was complaining about the infrastructure and stuff and said to her "For what these people have gone thru and endured in the last century from French rule, bombing by the US during the Vietnam war and then Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge, I think they are slowly re-building and are amazing people."
Thanks mate! Ow man, I can feel a bit of frustration about the girl from the US and I don’t blame you. Cambodia is doing very well and it’s only getting better from here 🙏
Omg, my heart can almost not stand to hear this, but also it's so important to tell the stories. ❤️ I feel for the Cambodian people so much. Thank you for this great historic lesson. You are awesome.
I’m amazed how a lot of local Cambodian speak English, especially this man as your tour guide, not only tuk tuk driver but knows lots of Khmer history. Great
Lost many family members too. My uncles and Grand dad were in the Police. Never knew my dad, and I only learnt recently I used to have an older sister who died at a young age. My mom was a teen but somehow survived on her own long enough to flee the country. Many families were torn apart. I need to go back one day, and learn more about where I'm from. Stay safe, thanks for sharing ! ❤
I am sure he's none like a normal tuk tuk driver. His level of English expression with lexical and grammatical aspects, historical presentation, he must have been sent for abroad training or used to be one of the governmental officials. Hands down for this very humble man.
I lost my Mom and my two brothers not to far from there during that time. It was so sad to go back and I was crying when you guy recorded in front of the Temple. Mr Sam he is good of telling the story. My tears start dropping and trying to finish your video, but it is painful to finish it hit me so hard. I wish that we never break apart like this again. We all need peace and love for all, Thank you for sharing Chai.
I know just how overwhelmed you were, Chai, while hearing about the atrocities at the Killing Caves. I visited the killing fields and heard and saw similar accounts of the horrors. I cried like a baby for those poor people who were treated so wretchedly and lost their lives at that time. Even now, again, my heart is heavy as I see your experience. This is madness, and still, to varying degrees, it continues. Peace to you. --Brad in Chiang Mai.
I am loving your video contents Cause i like to see more deeper in Cambodia This is the root cause of Cambodian culture I love to see more different contents of Cambodia. Thanks for your hard working. Keep up my friend
Wow what a moving video - Mr Sam has great knowledge and sadly personal loss & experience about these areas . The details are terrible but I’m glad he is able to share this with everyone, Excellent presentation my friend 😞👋😎✔️🙏
Thanks mate, I couldn’t make this video without you watching it so appreciate you’re part of this journey. I hope many people will see this video so people know a bit of the terrible history and see what the country is rebuilding from ❤️💪
Thanks for sharing this video. As a young generation of Cambodia, I have been passed down the tragic moments during the Pol Pot regime, which killed roughly 2.4 million people just for five years. I really felt sorry for the suffering they had and the loss of loved ones, but I wasn't so emotional until I saw this video. May the world full of peace and prosperity!
I salute you that you have done a great help with our tourism in our country. I hope the ministry would give incentive for example visa free for people who make content and provide a guide for helping making the video.
When I was young, my mom always told me stories about how difficult and cruel people were at that time. The stories always ended in heartbreak and tears.
Gripping and incredibly dark saga. Unfathomable inhumanity. Chai, much appreciate how you ask the questions and dig into the stories in your videos. Another excellent job.
What an incredible guide and his story! He is so eloquent and strong. The poor Cambodians have suffered so much! I am glad those nasty evil people are now no more. You're so right! It's worst than animals! Humans can be so cruel and evil. God bless you and Mr. Sam. ❤❤
I hope at some stage humans will be better than we are now :( horrible things like back then are still happening. Thanks for watching and you message 🙏

There is definitely a palpable heaviness in the air in Cambodia, in comparison to Thailand, for example. That generation is still alive, the ones lucky enough to survive. The prison museum in PP is quite an experience but an emotional experience and difficult to take in.
During the king Shihanuk regime Cambodia was quite develop and ahead of other southeast Asia countries. We have our own factory like producing Car, wheel, rubber, and export to other countries. Hello, there are a few things missing indeed. Actually some crucial parts. I have good reason for this and I only hope I get people curious to check out more of Cambodians history 🙏
I can explain it to you! At that time, the Soviet Union and China were confronting each other. China wanted Vietnam to choose either China or the Soviet Union. Vietnam of course wanted relations with both. Vietnam signed a cooperation document (alliance) with the Soviet Union. The incident made China angry and at the same time afraid of Vietnam's influence on Cambodia. Since then, China has provided military aid to the Khermer Rouge to attack Vietnam's southern border. That is why Vietnam attacked the Khmer Rouge, and at the same time China attacked northern Vietnam to support the Khermer Rouge. Of course, China did not achieve its goals and suffered great casualties in northern Vietnam .The Khmer Rouge was destroyed by Vietnam and the Cambodian people escaped genocide ! America and Europe say Vietnam invaded Cambodia and supported the Khmer Rouge at the United Nations! Vietnam was economically embargoed by the US and its allies until 1995! That's why the world owes Vietnam an apology!
