I have played this game and yes some of the odd hand comments I left in are there as funsie foreshadowing for people who know the story, but please don't spoil it for others following this series as their first time through!
I love how Kodaka subverted expectations from the get-go, I heard Sayaka got a lot of marketing attention and they seem to set her up as Makoto's right hand girl (and potential love interest), but NOPE, she becomes the first victim!

Not just them, that type of thing is always my favorite part of playthroughs of this franchise. I always love when a player's off the cuff jokes end up accidentally foreshadowing exactly or nearly exactly what happens

I love how the revelation progresses. First it's in disbelief, then the SURVIVING STUDENTS: 15 screen comes up and it finally sinks in to Dan that Monokuma ain't fuckin around
I love how Dan and Arin had already deduced who the murderer already was, yet they couldn't deduce how to actually play the trail until several tries. God, I love this playthrough.
I wonder if they'll keep figuring out who the killer is before the trial. Not saying they aren't master detectives, but to be fair, the one they got so far had the victim quite literally spell it out for them. I assume it'll get more difficult to deduce down the line
It does get harder and even this one was only so dead easy because the twist was designed for people who are a bit less intimately familiar with the romani alphabet among other things.

I am only feeling protective of Kyoko's voice. They'd better remember that Dan has been doing her voice, since Dan caught her kuudere vibe right off the bat. "She doesn't give a f*ck~!" She's basically a female Edgeworth.

In Makoto's defense, the letters L-E-O-N were still in english in the japanese version of the game. For Japanese audiences, his name was written in a different language's alphabet. That's why Makoto didn't piece things together sooner.
And in Japan, it’s more common to refer to people by their last name (Like what Hifumi does), so that could also be a player in how they didn’t figure it out sooner ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Dan's been taking hilarious advantage of the sprites with wide-open mouths. So every time Taka's mouth is wide open, Dan makes him shout super long. I love it!
Made all the more hilarious that they put that much effort into the first character to die. I was grinning with anticipation for when that first body discovery hit.
Lol same, I was so happy that Arin got attached to Sayaka so quickly. It made her death even sweeter. Plus, the fact that Dan asked if the deaths and killers are randomized means that they probably liked Leon a lot as well.

I was just thinking that! I watched the anime and her character was just so BORING. I actually liked the Italian twist they put on her character, it made her WAY more interesting to me and I actually listened to her dialogue to see where they threw in a “Mama’s Ragu” or “spicy meatball”

I'm absolutely loving this series so far. This compilation is just the thing I needed. Side note, I kinda want them to do this where they play through one chapter, do a small series like their Mario Party right now, and do another chapter. I mean I really love Danganronpa, but just to kinda avoid burnout.
Oh absolutely, this worked out perfectly. I believe Arin said on stream that they already finished Chp 2, but I’m really LOVING this upload style. 🥰 The alternating between a whole chapter, and then a chill series is really fun. I hope they do Grump’s Dream Course, Frolf, Monopoly, Wheel of Fortune, Hollywood Squares, or one of those other VS games.
@@wesleypatterson2989 I personally don't think so. I beat it in 9 days, but I had a lot of free time back then. Yet at the rate they're going, their gonna go over 50 parts and that's quite the time sink with each video being 30 minutes or over. So yeah, on your own it'd take less than a week, but GG would probably take over 10 weeks.
The one time the guys forgot and Arin voiced her, I panicked. Dan has her demeanor down pat. She's such a serious and mysterious character that Dan must continue voicing her.
For the guys watching this blind, don't take it too seriously, is an anime high school with a killer Bear full of references. Wacky things happen, don't think it will be realistic. Go with the ride.
Yeah, you hit the nail on the head. Hell, the pink blood, jokes during serious moments and Monokuma in general are there specifically to tone down the nature of everything. This game series does lead to the creation of the Zero Escape Games which is more serious, so maybe they'll play that.

Honestly (even when i love anime) this game is one i'd never play. The writing is dumb and the dialogues are painfully redundant, but played by the Grumps, this has been one of the best recient series in the channel.
Thanks to this, i hc'd that Sayaka is half-Italian or has Italian heritage or something. The mental image of her freaking out whenever one of her classmates breaks spaghetti will never go away.
That's part of the fun of the game, what makes you think about it after playing it. Later events and character decisions peel back layers of earlier parts and make you see them differently.
It's definitely easier to get into it when you're the one playing and can progress at your own pace. Having already played it, I get alternately frustrated at the guys for not figuring out fast travel, etc. but am excited to see which characters they choose to hang with during Free Time.

Ngl, this is probably my favorite Grumps play through. It’s somehow just naturally funny ever single second. The game gives so many opportunities for jokes between Arin and Dan. These compilations make me die of laughter.
This is one of those game series that I initially didn't enjoy because of the slow pace, but after giving it a second chance I can't help but truly enjoy the utter madness that is this game, the characters and the way Arin and Danny react to every bizarre thing that comes their way! :)
Maybe I'm in the in the minority, but love Arin's default protag voice 😂 Especially since most if not all male anime protags are bland as hell, devoid of personality

I'm absolutely loving this series so far. This compilation is just the thing I needed.
Side note, I kinda want them to do this where they play through one chapter, do a small series like their Mario Party right now, and do another chapter. I mean I really love Danganronpa, but just to kinda avoid burnout.
Oh absolutely, this worked out perfectly. I believe Arin said on stream that they already finished Chp 2, but I’m really LOVING this upload style. 🥰 The alternating between a whole chapter, and then a chill series is really fun. I hope they do Grump’s Dream Course, Frolf, Monopoly, Wheel of Fortune, Hollywood Squares, or one of those other VS games.

@@wesleypatterson2989 I personally don't think so. I beat it in 9 days, but I had a lot of free time back then. Yet at the rate they're going, their gonna go over 50 parts and that's quite the time sink with each video being 30 minutes or over. So yeah, on your own it'd take less than a week, but GG would probably take over 10 weeks.

The one time the guys forgot and Arin voiced her, I panicked. Dan has her demeanor down pat. She's such a serious and mysterious character that Dan must continue voicing her.

For the guys watching this blind, don't take it too seriously, is an anime high school with a killer Bear full of references. Wacky things happen, don't think it will be realistic. Go with the ride.
I personally think V3 had the best references with the Monokuma theater from that game, I loved it haha.
Yeah, you hit the nail on the head. Hell, the pink blood, jokes during serious moments and Monokuma in general are there specifically to tone down the nature of everything. This game series does lead to the creation of the Zero Escape Games which is more serious, so maybe they'll play that.
Thanks for saying so. Viewers either are comfortable with suspending their belief and rolling with the anime tropes, or they're not. Giving it a fair chance is what matters.

Honestly (even when i love anime) this game is one i'd never play. The writing is dumb and the dialogues are painfully redundant, but played by the Grumps, this has been one of the best recient series in the channel.
I love how Arin’s voice for Makoto is suspiciously similar to FriendArin from their Doki series

Looking back at the earlier moments is kinda creepy when you know what happens later.
That's part of the fun of the game, what makes you think about it after playing it. Later events and character decisions peel back layers of earlier parts and make you see them differently.

It's definitely easier to get into it when you're the one playing and can progress at your own pace. Having already played it, I get alternately frustrated at the guys for not figuring out fast travel, etc. but am excited to see which characters they choose to hang with during Free Time.
Now the wait for an animated to be made from any of these episodes.

Ngl, this is probably my favorite Grumps play through. It’s somehow just naturally funny ever single second. The game gives so many opportunities for jokes between Arin and Dan. These compilations make me die of laughter.

This is one of those game series that I initially didn't enjoy because of the slow pace, but after giving it a second chance I can't help but truly enjoy the utter madness that is this game, the characters and the way Arin and Danny react to every bizarre thing that comes their way! :)

My favorite joke in this entire lets play is Celeste having an existential crisis over Dan's paradox bet.
It’s crazy how much they nailed some of the things that happen in the game, like in the episode when Dan calls out Sayaka and some other things I won’t say in respect for those that haven’t played the game. And this is just the first chapter!
