The Junkyard story was simple, direct, and touching.
Education is important, but it's not always necessary for success. OP's dad seemed like a good guy that was loved and respected. My grandad had 16 siblings. He was made to quit school after the third grade to work on the family farm. At 15, he bought a rusty log truck and started hauling logs to the local paper mill. At 17, he got a job at the paper mill, eventually made supervisor, and worked there for 44 years. Though he had little formal schooling, he pushed his children and grandchildren to get a college degree. One day, he asked how my schooling was going, stressing the importance of education. In his slow, country draw he said, "I worked at that plant for 44 years with a third grade education. If I woulda got a fourth grade education, I could've run that place!" RIP Pops.
That would be the day two little simpletons would levy fines against me.
