MPL and the Concord Music Group are proud to announce two more landmark instalments in the multiple GRAMMY-winning Paul McCartney Archive Collection. On 2nd October, 2015, Paul’s early ‘80s back-to-back classics 'Tug of War' and 'Pipes of Peace' will receive lavish multiple configuration reissue treatment including exclusive 2015 remixes of both the entire 'Tug of War' album and the 'Pipes of Peace' classic collaboration with Michael Jackson 'Say Say Say,' a treasure trove of previously unreleased tracks and never before seen video, and much more.
Released in 1982, 'Tug of War' was Paul’s first album following the break-up of Wings and his third solo LP overall. Hailed upon its release as “exquisitely crafted” by The New York Times and a “masterpiece” by Rolling Stone, 'Tug of War' went to #1 in no less than nine countries. 'Tug of War' yielded such classic tracks as Paul’s #1 duet with Stevie Wonder 'Ebony and Ivory,' the top 10 single 'Take It Away,' and of course 'Here Today,' the conversation Paul never had with the late John Lennon that remains a staple of Paul’s live set to this day.
'Pipes of Peace', Paul’s fourth solo album, followed in 1983 and continued Paul’s early '80s run of platinum records. Singles from 'Pipes of Peace' included the title track and of course Paul and Michael Jackson’s timeless 'Say Say Say,' a multi-format global chart-topping smash continually cited as a landmark of that or any year--as recently as 2007, Vibe magazine rated 'Say Say Say' as one of the greatest duets of all time.
As with the GRAMMY-winning 'Band on the Run' and 'Wings Over America' Archive editions, Paul personally supervised all aspects of these releases and their various formats, which include:
'Tug of War' will be issued as a 2-CD Special Edition comprised of the 2015 remix of the entire album, plus a second disc of bonus audio featuring eight previously unreleased demos of both album tracks and outtakes 'Stop, You Don’t Know Where She Came From' and 'Something That Didn’t Happen,' as well as demo and solo versions of 'Ebony and Ivory' and more. The 'Tug Of War' 3-CD/1-DVD Deluxe Edition adds the original 1982 album mix and a DVD featuring original music videos for the album’s singles and the brand new 18-minute documentary 'Fly TIA-Behind The Scenes on Take It Away' featuring previously unseen archival footage. In keeping with the award-winning Paul McCartney Archive Collection standards, the 'Tug of War' Deluxe Edition will include a 112-page essay book and 64-page scrapbook, while the strictly limited run of 1000 Super Deluxe sets will arrive in a limited edition acrylic slipcase with five hand numbered prints of images from the Linda McCartney archive.
The 'Pipes of Peace' 2-CD Special Edition is made up of the original album plus a 9-track bonus disc with such exclusive gems as a 2015 remix of 'Say Say Say' by Spike Stent, unearthed demos of three album tracks and outtakes 'It’s Not On' and 'Simple As That,' the previously unreleased 'Christian Bop' and more. The 2-CD/1-DVD 'Pipes of Peace' Deluxe Edition features a bonus video disc comprised of the original promo clips for all three of the album’s singles, plus previously unreleased clips from Paul’s film archives. The Deluxe configuration will also include a 112-page essay book and 64-page book that takes the reader behind the scenes on the 'Pipes of Peace' title track video shoot.
Both albums and their companion bonus audio discs will also be released as 2-LP 180-gram audiophile vinyl editions complete with gatefold sleeves and download cards. The newly remixed and mastered 'Tug of War' and remastered 'Pipes of Peace' will also receive standard and Hi Res digital releases, as well deluxe digital and Hi Res releases featuring all bonus audio.
The Beatles were sure lucky to have such a genius producing them.
Yes, luck is the right word.
You mean Paul right?
Yes, as were Gerry and the Pacemakers
And George was lucky to be producing such geniuses.
If Martin was a genius, rather than just a very good producer and specialist arranger, it's funny that his own orchestral/classical compositions (he wrote enough to fill 2 CDs) have been almost entirely forgotten. They are never recorded or programmed in concert by major orchestras (or any orchestras, come to that) and only one piece has any kind of following today. That is a glorified fanfare called Theme One, and that's only really known because Van der Graaf Generator recorded a cover of it while they were goofing around in the studio waiting for their singer to turn up.
There is one double CD available of Martin's orchestral work and it's basically a Martin family vanity project. The music reveals that, whatever his talents, Martin had little if any flair for melody.
Give credit where it's due!
Paul is like the hyper son and George is like the patient father helping him make the complex Airfix model at Christmas!
Absolutely, lol. Nobody handled Paul better than George Martin, their working relationship was so special ♥️
George Martin was born to produce The Beatles. He is the fatherly voice of taste, restraint and encouragement.
IndyDefense
What an excellent description. It sums it perfectly.
Nice.
Goldfish ~ Yeah,
Well Said my friend, if you haven’t already seen it before,
Check out the amazing documentary footage called =
“THE WINGED BEATLE”
The extended version is the best,
It’s one of the best films about The Beatles to date and is a must see for everyone that is a true fan of the Beatles.
YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED
Wow...you have defined his role incredibly well !!!
Restraint? I don't think so!
I could listen to GM talk all day. A voice that could never offend.
I just read Paul's statement about George's passing and how he orchestrated the strings to Yesterday. Brilliant man, George. The world is better today for his contributions. May he rest sweetly in peace!
Always seemed Paul and George MArtin just clicked and that Paul loved George and George really liked Paul the best of the Beatles.
Probably because Paul was the one most interested in learning about production and also had similar musical interests.
John wasn't the only perfect collaborator for Paul
It was destiny; George Martin was in the right place at exactly the right time. He was BORN to be the producer of The Beatles. That's all there is to it.
Luck is the major factor.
Just life pal, just life.
@@Vlasko60And your point? Everything in life is luck to a certain degree. Meeting them may have been lucky, but the rest was not!!
@@lisadc4681 Sorry, but ultimately, it's all luck, which is a destiny of sorts.
I have no doubt whatsoever you are correct. Those above who have said it was 'luck' have no comprehension of the higher order of life.
The one true fifth beatle!
@Jim McCracken But c'mon, Neil had nothing to do with their music!!!
That’s all true, and Neil was essential to their success. But George Martin was in the studio with them the whole way. Nobody had more influence than he did.
@@handle-schmandle Their first sound engineer Norm ( Normal ) Smith was influential as well. Later he recorded under the moniker of Hurricane Smith.
@@jamesdunn9714 I didn't know that; thank you.
Sir Paul McCartney should release a DVD with all the recording sessions of Tug of War
I'm so dreadfully sorry that George Martin has passed on.
What a wonderful man he was, that 5th Beatle!
Let's put to rest the question of who the fifth Beatle was now and forever it's George Martin, he alone collaborated developed shaped and engineered every song on every album enough said . Rest In Peace sir George and thank you for the beautiful music !!!!
Yep, and a Beatle (and they really have the only legitimate say) pronounced that IF anyone deserved that moniker, it was George Martin. Puts an end to that discussion for me. There were many key players, without whom, the Beatles might not have done as well, fate brought many people together for the magic, but only George Martin is in the running for 5th Beatle.
No wonder Brian Wilson had a nervous breakdown. It was basically he alone trying to do it all while competing against Lennon, McCartney, and Martin. Martin was VITAL to The Beatles being so well produced and their songs/ideas being fleshed out in the studio. John or Paul would come up with the core idea for a song/lyrics and then show up in the studio where all your mates can join in to add their bits and you also have world class producer/engineer to make the recording process easy for you. This is not to diminish The Beatles, but to RESPECT George Martin!!!!
RIP George the epitome of the perfect English gentleman. Fitting that he passed over on the total solar eclipse. A legend in his own lifetime.
From what I've gathered over the years, it seems to me that of all The Beatles, Paul had the best rapport with George. They were on the same wave length. Lovely relationship.
Well you know George didn't like his tie, to start... ;-)
@@keykrazy haha, very true
It is my opinion that their bond was also due to ( of the 4) Pauls musical ability and ambition to progress.
Martin and McCartney , what they can do together is magical. Superb talent .
Beatles and George were a match made in heaven. He made them , brought out the best.
The best writing / production team one could ask for! Sir George is retired now, so I just want to say thank you!
He's dead
Ron Williams
He wasn't when I wrote this, thank you very much.
Very inappropriate aggression.
RIP George Martin, and thank you for producing so much of what awesome music we now have.
The best musician, and the best producer.
Thank God I could live in the same era with them.
RIP GEORGE MARTIN, MASTER OF SOUND, MAGICIAN, LOVE... ♥ HELLO, GOODBYE
Such a gentleman Soul.. Thank you so much for all you´ve gave us.. George Martin RIP
He reminds me of the guy that produced all those songs by the band from Liverpool in the 60’s.
Oh to have been a fly on the wall here to see these two in the studio.....pure genius at work ~ Rest In Peace Sir George ~
Keep undercover is my favourite song on the album Pipes Of peace. It is my privilege and joy to watch this song 'coming into life'. I think that George Martin was the best producer EVER.
A pair of musical geniuses! Just look at the mega body of work over the years & you'll agree!
George Martin....In a class of his own....Destiny brought him and The Beatles together.
RIP George Martin, Your music and contribution to the Beatles will live forever. Right now a beautiful light is shinning all around the world, Much Love to everyone.
again thankyou paulie for sharing your life with us your fans who love you and care about you
'Keep Under Cover' was probably the best song in my opinion on the album Pipes of Peace.
+breezebro But ELO should remind you of McCartney. There's so much of ELO that is Beatle inspired and in my opinion contrived. Hell, Lennon called ELO the Beatles Jr.
+breezebro Really? John was all crap after the Beatles.
+MrMustard1993 that makes for a rather ironic title then.
+BonelessSalmon
Based on that mat misinformed statement, you've clearly never heard the 'Plastic Ono Band' album. Go buy it.
His stuff was crap between 1972 - 1979.
George Martin, you will forever stay in our memory. Your'e such a remarkable person, one of the greatest in the music industry.
holy shit this is amazing they are both aliens aren't they
Yeah, and one's a dead alien's secret replacement lol. Amazing.
@@boggybogallow ha ha
RIP George M
If there's a Heaven, then he's arranging the harp players.
Barnaby ap Robert Of course, with George and John.
Wonderful albums and SO wonderful to see the two of you back together and with the same rapport. Thank you for asking him Paul. I know it was worth it.
I'd love to make music when I see footage like this. A great duo!
RIP George .....thanks for the memories you helped several generations now make and "finetune"....there will never be another Beatles or another George Martin ❤🎼🎶🎵🎹🎻🎷🎧🎵🎶🎼
Happy 90th birthday George Martin!
Got "Tug Of War" for Christmas. Fantastic! The remixes and remasters are fabulous!
We're lucky the Beatles had such an amiable, patient and talented man to lead them in the studio. The sound they made may have taken on a completely different take if his ear hadn't been pliable. The world lost a talent in part responsible for decades of important music for everyone that breathes.
4:55 - 5:19 hilarity ensues! lol
Nice glimpse into the inside scene in the studio.
The Beatles is a collaboration of five great musical mind, they can’t be that great without the other. A quintuplet conjoined to one heart and mind.
Beautiful team-work. He was a very kind man.
R.I.P Sir George. Thank you for the music!
The Beatles never would've happened without George Martin.
They would have, but it wouldn't have been the same.
I so wish there was a film on him. He was a fine man.
What a great pair!
Loved this clip. Thank you
Two genius together!
The last bit is fantastic! Love it.
4:57 Paul turned into a velociraptor
Uh oh, you've started another Paul/Faul rumor.
Paul is dead, replaced by a velociraptor
Rick Astley my overlord
Now *there’s* a conspiracy theory that I can get behind!
R.I.P George. North London's finest 👍💯
Neat to see what kinds of ideas were thrown about to make all those songs.
This was fantastic
Bye Martin. We were blessed to have you here.
He brought and encouraged the best, elegant, sophisticated, unique part of the Beatles
what a great rare outtake from the past.. thanks for uploading, regards from vienna.
RIP George Martin. A true class act. You will be surely missed..
I really enjoyed the concept of "throwing one away" at the end; when he did a and take George M just urged him to do a bad one to shrug it off.:)
プロデューサー、ジョージ・マーティンさんとのLPレコード制作・音楽作品に1980年代、中学生の頃の私は非常に感銘しておりました。「Keep Under Cover」 を久し振りに聴きたくなりました♪
Ah, George the old shoe that fits !! Awesome footage thanks so much for posting. Love to see these two bouncing their noodles off each other.
very wonderful video
George was a Genius
♥️🌟💟👑👑
What a gentleman. I so admire him . R.I.P.
God Bless, Sir George Martin
There will never be another George Martin.
Amazing!!!
5th Beatle. (Could be considered 6th Pete best first drummer) but definitely a creator and collaborater with john, Paul, and George. He played the piano on the song IN MY LIFE written by john Lennon. It was so intricate no other beatle could lay it down, so Martin came from behind the glass and showed the boys how a true classical piano piece should be played. They all respected him greater after that.
Mikail Stacy huh
Just Greatest persons! Loveem both!
The gentleman's gentleman.
What A MAGICIAN, SIR GEORGE !...Love You Forever.....
I loved FLAMING PIE - Jeff Lynne co-produced with Paul and Jeff also played on and sang backup on the album and i assume helped out with arrangements - I wish Paul and Jeff had worked again together on a Paul solo album because they succeeded brilliantly on FLAMING PIE
Rest In Peace Sir George Martin.
Wow the sound quality is mind blowing and it's on a film..!!??
Amazing! DOS GRANDES
superb.
The greatest musician of all time. While the rest of The Beatles would retire by the mid seventies, only Paul would consistantly continue writing, performing & touring with his newly formed Wings with its ever changing line up.He would continue touring, writing and performing with a new line up through the eighties, nineties the millennia to date. And impossible feat achieved by no one -- not even Dylan or the Stones.
Nikhil Bavdekar huh
Both Dylan and The Stones are still doing it, Nikhil. And Wings officially ceased to be in 1981, though they had been inactive by early 1980.
Rip George. Love 5 ever
Must have been so bittersweet for Paul and George when making their first album together since the Beatles ( exception being Live and Let Die single) that when making what became the Tug of War album John was murdered. It turned out to be IMO Pauls best album since BOTR. RIP Sir George.
Happy 90th birthday George Marin!
wish I could find a producer like George
dear God, Paulie!
R.I.P. George Martin!
This is such delightful footage to see. Keep Under Cover is one of the few very brilliant songs on Pipes of Peace.
In my opinion there are only 4 brilliant tracks on pipes of peace, those are: the title track, say say say, keep under cover and so bad. The rest of the album ranges from mediocre to horrible... Cough cough "The man"
+Matthew Corcoran
So you think Here Today is mediocre???
OropherThranduil Here Today is on Tug of War. :)
PogieJoe
Oh sorry, i got that mixed up...
I just love that Song. :D
