Hello! Just some bits about this video:
1. Using XOR gates for levers on both sides of the door: Yes that's the main use I have seen for them, but even when this book was made most people used buttons and t-flip flops because it's smaller, simpler and buttons look better. I was interested in hearing what else this book suggested!
2. Sketching out wiring diagrams for real life programming/electrical engineering: That makes a tonne of sense (I used to do it), but it never makes sense for most redstone contraptions, as just building the contraption would likely take less time than painstakingly drawing it.
MMMMMMMM......... yes
Huh, neat!
Huh
that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying
feel like you would use the drawing if you are working on something complex like a storage where conponenst have to work together. like this system will activate these systems writing this down on paper will give you an idea what you have to work on.
Mumbo's return to Minecraft is in the form of a book review... I've gotta say, I didn't see that coming

NGL, I’d love a Redstone basics series from Mumbo. Starting with explaining simple things all the way up through one of his crazy piston doors.
Oh, yes, 100%. I'm still not sure I'd understand, but I'd love all the silly jokes and whatnot that go along with it.
He actually did this a few years ago which I have just recently discovered. It's called "Hi-Lo tech", and there's a playlist of the series. It is great to watch in order since it starts simple and gets a bit more complex.
I just realized that the levers tip that he mentions for a bit to figure out in what order to link up the redstone is basically the equivalent to using print statements in programming while debugging an error XD great idea Mumbo
this whole book looks like something written by an programmer / mathematician

The Mumbo music, the Mumbo voice, the Mumbo mustache.
What is... something that makes me instantly happy 😊
In regards to sketching out Redstone contraptions, when I used to live with my Dad I hardly ever got to play video games so while I was at his house I would sketch out complicated Redstone contraptions on graph paper, which I would then take to Mom's house to turn into an actual contraption. The unfortunate thing about this technique was that I had about a 65% success rate with my diagrams, as something usually had an in-game niche that I hadn't accounted for!..
I find it so delightful that you picked up the book to relearn redstone, and remembered more than enough about redstone to pulverize the book's contents instead.
Jesus Christ is the propitiation for the whole world's sins. They that believeth and are baptized (with the Holy Spirit) shall be saved; but they that believeth not shall be damned. Those led by the Holy Spirit do not abide in wickedness.
*God is ONE manifesting himself as THREE;* the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! Bless him! *For these three are one.*
As I am led by the Holy Spirit, nothing I state is a lie, but the truth of God. Anyone who tells you differently is misinformed or a liar. They do not know God, nor led by him.
Anyone who *claims* to be a Christian and is against what I am doing, and where I am doing it; the Holy Spirit does not dwell within them, they lack understanding. They know not God, read his word, and their religion is in vain. Do not hear them, they will mislead you, the lost cannot guide the lost.
When you trust in God and cast your cares (worries, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts) upon him, they will be NO MORE!
Know that there is power in the name Jesus Christ! His name casts out demons and heals!
The world is wicked, evil, and of the devil.
I too, was a wicked sinner of the world before I opened my heart to God. I am living proof of God's work and fruitfulness! He is an active God who hears the prayers of his! God's children are set apart (holy) and righteous. The devil is a liar that comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy; that includes your relationship with God!
Open your heart to God, repent of your sins (he will forgive you), and let him direct your path. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands and purify your heart, lest you walk with the devil and follow him to hell.
Typical, a Christian bringing their Dogma into something that has nothing to do with it. You know being dogmatic doesn't actually get people to side with you right?

I do this with Yen still. For the longest time 100 yen was 1 dollar and it made conversion so nice and easy, you just move the decimal 2 spots and then add commas if you need them. 1350 yen is 13.50 dollars; 150000 yen is 1,500.00 dollars. But now 1 dollar is like 60 yen and it's made yen feel more like an arcade coin than a real currency.

Thank you for making this video Mumbo! I'm so happy with your return to minecraft loved the new video
I think the most prevalent use-case I have seen for XOR gates in real life has been multiple light switches for the same light. No matter which switch you're at, flipping it will toggle the light. Sometimes the switch is up when the light is off and down when it's on, but it'll always toggle the light, no matter which you're at.
if i think about this briefly, wouldnt an xor gate fail to do the task here? since if you have the light on at one switch, it can not be turned off at a second switch?, Shouldnt a system that you described be done with One doualedge-Monostable-circuit behind each switch, and all of them running into a flipflop/t-flip that controlls the lightsource? Or am i mistaken here?
edit: ah im dumb, i missunderstood how this gate works, mb.
It is incredibly convenient in staircases! Imagine going down the stairs in total darkness because the light switch is at the bottom floor.
Thank you for that, I've never thought to do that and will 100% be implementing that!
IIRC, that light will turn off when all switches are active, yes?
@@re.liable depends
Iirc, XOR is a parity gate
Count number of 1's from input
Output 0 if even
1 if odd
So all inputs on will activate the light if there are and odd number of inputs, and will turn it off if even

While yes, sketching out your design for whatever contraption is usually a waste of time, when working with computing I have found it incredibly helpful. Since the potential inputs and outputs get extremely complicated it's important everything functions correctly.
Yeah computing redstone follows very simularly to how people in computer engineering and computer science plan their projects
Let's think about it as a birds-eye view or map, you need it to navigate a city, you don't need it to navigate your room
Not the Mumbo telegram bot…
I just wanna say i love your pfp
Yeah, I sketched out a lot when I was designing a craps machine (as in the dice game), since it's easier for me to work with paper.
An XOR gate is actually surprisingly useful for rudimentary, lever-controlled doors, since it lets you use two toggle switches (i.e levers) to control one toggle (i.e a door).
In physical terms, imagine you have a door in the wall with levers on either side. Using an XOR gate means that toggling either of the levers (on or off) will either open or close the door, depending on if the door was closed or opened already.
This is big brain time. I hadn't thought of that
Honestly, bless you for this comment. Love a good practical example to make things make sense
This is exactly the comment I was looking for . The xor allows control from two different locations .
Indeed, but I'd say the better solution to that is to control with pulses (i.e. buttons) and send those into a T-flip flop that controls the door. It's a good use for a XOR gate, and it's how some of my lights at home are hooked up. It's just my personal opinion that says this.
I think you would just use Buttons in that case that control a T Flip-Flop. This would also allow for more than two inputs without having to add more complicated redstone
Love to see you back man, Always welcome to take breaks, but you were truly missed!!!
Welcome back. Liked this video just for its more light hearted approach and having a bit of fun.
The xor or xnor gate is commonly used to lighting in stairwells irl so that the light is always controllable from both the upstairs and downstairs switch. Which one is used exactly is often of little relevance.
Place I use to work for used them in liquid tanks. 2 temp sensors (one at the top of the tank and one at the bottom) in the tank. They were set to a certain temp and when they exceeded it it turned on the stir cycle. If both came on then we knew the whole tank was up to temp. When up to temp, or both sensors were exposed (such as when the tank was empty) we didn't want the stir cycle to start.
Basically used XOR gates with logic latches. Most of the equipment was built in the 70s or 80s, now days everything is just fed into computers.
When I first learned about xor gates and moved to a new house I was surprised that xor gates were used for the lights. It was kinda cool that I knew how they did it

*SPEAK WHEN SPOKEN TO*
The reason XOR is nice for comparisons is because if the two inputs are the same, there's no output, but if the two inputs are different there is. It's pretty niche for redstone contraptions but a common use is for having two levers in different places that activate a circuit (such as for a light source), since changing either of the levers toggles the output
He addressed this in a pinned comment. Most people just use a T Flip-Flop and buttons which is smaller and looks nicer.
