Thank you for watching. Make sure to like and subscribe and pass me along to your friends. I really enjoy playing solo games. What games did I miss that I might need to add to my collection.
Wow! Gotta love a channel with less than 1,000 subscribers that does a top ten list and gets comments from several designers of items on the list. 👍
I was blown away by the response. Thank you for watching and commenting
Added both B-17 Flying Fortress Leader and Western Front Ace to my collection this past year. B-17 is more operation than the Avalon Hill B-17 Queen of the Skies, although it has an included mini-gamer that definitely has the feel of QOTS. I fully agree about Western Front Ace. Fantastic game and a real winner. Started with a German pilot, but lost him after his 9th kill. I have a continuing French ace I've followed through to 16 kills already (thank goodness for Sixth Sense or I would have lost him a while ago). Looking forward to trying other nationalities and aircraft. Have just ordered Nightfighter Ace. Expect it will be as challenging and rewarding. On a personal note, by Dad was a P-61 Black Widow "radar "observer" late in WWII. Only made it as far as Hamilton Field in California. In fact, he was a train from Omaha to Hamilton Field after joining up with his crewmates when Hiroshima was bombed and had arrived at Hamilton just before Nagasaki was bombed, so for him, his service ended there.
Thank you for sharing! That is why I love narrative driven games and WFA is one of the best!
Wow! Thank you CC! Great list with some terrific designers on there ... and thank you for the kind words about VLE. I'll be working soon on the next one soon, covering Borodino. Best wishes!
It is deserved ! Love that game. Thank you for watching!
@hermannluttmann1637, good to hear about Borodino, I'm due to put out GMT's Borodino on the table soon, so will be "in the topic" soon 😁
@@przemekbozek Thanks!
Great list! Thank you for the kind comment on the cover of British Tank Ace - that's one of my pieces of art (along with the cover of American Tank Ace)
Your art is amazing! Do you sell the prints? I would love to frame a few of those for my game room. I am also doing a quick video about Book games and PNP games. I have never played them, I think I need to give them a chance.
I have been looking at Vive L'Empereur and considering giving it a try. Your description of and passion for this game convinced me that it is worth bringing to the table. Thx!
You will not be disappointed - Tell Hermann I sent you 😂
that pacific tide cover is very cool... love the line of carriers with all of the planes... jus a moment frozen in time forever... just awesome..
I love that cover as well. I also enjoy the American & British Tank Ace covers as well.
Thanks for sharing. Great list! Enjoyable , fast paced video.
Thank you for watching!
Great video. Trying to get RAF and The hunters on the table. Thanks for the inspiration. Happy New Year.
Thank you for watching! I love RAF
Hell of a list, and you obviously have great taste in wargame UA-camrs! Seriously though, some real bangers on there. 👍
Thanks for watching, Love your channel
@@CardboardCommander I appreciate that! And well done with this list, seriously. Keep it up.
Love the fact you only profiled games you own. I only own 'Pacific Tide' . Like you, I plan to acquire 'Enemy Action Ardennes' and 'Field Commander Rommel', so I was relieved to see them on your Wishlist; I want them to be good games to play solo. One that was not well received as a game, but I enjoyed immensely, was 'Corvette Commander'; one to consider, perhaps.
Yeah - I hate to speak on games that I have not played. I am really looking forward to getting Combat as well. - Thank you for watching!
I like how you factored in games you own, your wish list, games you need to get to the table, and games that you can't wait for. I ordered Carrier Battles: Philippine Sea recently from Compass Games as my first foray into solo wargaming. So many of these games look great, but Enemy Action Ardennes, Enemy Action Kharkov, The Hunters, and Vive L'Empereur look particularly fantastic. Time to start saving up...
I look forward to seeing your thoughts on Carrier Battles: Philippine Sea! Western Front Ace is a hoot! Thank you for watching!
Nice vid. I haven't got any of these, not much of a Smith fan tbh. I suggest you get into GMT's Fields of Fire who's Deluxe edition is out soon and Compass' Combat!
I tried FOF and it did not resonate with me. I am going to try Combat. I just ordered Market Garden. Thanks for watching.
A really solid list, thanks for filming!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing. I have all the DVG Valient Defense games because of creators like you helping me get the best of the best. Your wish list resembles all the cross-references I've done for the best solitaire war games. Well done!
Thank you for watching! I really appreciate the kind words
Nice list. That said I can add one correction to it. B-17 FFL is not a remake of B-17 QotS from AH. The remake of that is Target for Today. My current favorite Solo game is "Combat!" from Compass Games followed closely by "Warfighter WWII" from DVG.
Thanks for clarifying that. I have been looking at combat. I have heard good and bad about Warfighter. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the future depletion of my savings account! British Tank Ace looks awesome!
It looks amazing! I can't wait! Thank you for watching
Wow!...thank you sir for your podcast and for making me aware of all sorts of Games more to my liking!! Keep up the good work!!
Thank you for watching. I do appreciate it!
I own manila and vive l’empereur, which is also my favourite. Recently placed an order for d-day at omaha beach 😊 thanks for the suggestions that are quite different from what you usually find recommended. Regards from Switzerland.
Thank you sir for watching! D-Day at Omaha beach will be by next solo game.
Amazing list! Getting Vive L' Empereur soon
Thanks for watching and you won't regret it!
Thanks for posting this. I will check some of these out. BTW I have enjoyed playing Lanzareth Ridge. And Enemy Action Ardennes is a blast. Very repeatable.
Thank you for watching! - I need to get L Ridge
Nice list. Thank you. I did a lot of proofing for the Rinella games. They are good, tight, well-produced games. Cheers.
Love his games.
Nice approach, breaking the top ten action with some other interesting content. Greg is gonna love this list. I have a lot of his titles and enjoy them all immensely.
I saw a guy on another channel doing that and I thought it worked. Thanks for watching
I agree with almost everything you said... well done sir...
Thank you for watching!
Excellent video. I hesitate a bit with Gregory Smith Games. I love Hunters, but was disapointed with Interceptor Ace. Now I don't know in which category falls Tank Ace and Western Front Ace...
Your No1 pick I didn't know, so I will check it out. Btw "Vive" in French sounds more like "we've" in English.
Western Front Ace is amazing and one of my all-time favorites. Thank you for watching
Great list. Especially your top 3
Thanks for watching!
You pronounce l’Empereur in ONE word. 😀
I still have to play that one. But it has indeed a fabulous designer/developper.
My personal solo list :
1. Enemy Action Ardennes. The only 10/10 of all my 500 games played. Words fall short.
2. Atlantic Chase. Incredible how you can design a pure solo game about sea combat with hidden movement. Brilliant. I bought all ships in 1/1200 scale already.
3. The Panzer series from James Day. BUT you do need Exp 4: France 40 to include the solo bot rules. Or the Desert stand alone game.
4. Split between DDay at Omaha and DDay at Tarawa. John Butterfield quality and you can see the built up towards the Enemy Action series here.
5. An oldie: Conflict of Heroes with the Eastern Front solo expansion. Co designed by the Eickerts AND John Butterfield.
If that CoH design was published by GMT, every other solo game would have been cancelled… But helas no one came even close to this. Instead the 3rd edition had hex numbers mismatched and so you need to find the 2nd edition of this amazing co design by John Butterfield.
Apart from the Hunter I do not like Gregory Smith games. They seem just dice rollers. No tactics or strategy required like you do in Butterfield games.
Thompson games I like are Undaunted but ONLY the solo expansion Reinforcem. and Pavlov’s House which is the ultra Tower Defense game.
The best 2 player solo games: Panzer series by GMT- ASL of course - The Grand Tactical series by MMP (Race for Bastogne is awesome) - The Battalion Combat series by MMP (The last Blitzkrieg) - and Bolt Action # with my 3D printed miniatures.
After 46 years of wargaming I concentrate mainly on the Ardennes, the France 40 battles and Normandy.
Keep wargaming !
Great list. Just getting started on my own collection. In your opinion, what is the difference between "Enemy Action: Ardennes" and "Enemy Action Karkov"?
Thank you for the feedback on pronouncing places. I am bad about that, but if that is the worst thing I do, life is pretty darn good. IMHO.
I love Butterfield games, but also like the Smith games. They are different approaches and that is what I like about them. I enjoy all of the 40 series games for solo play as well as ASLSK. Thanks again for the feedback - Thank you for watching!
@@CardboardCommanderagree
You have interesting taste in games, and you mentioned a few I'd never heard of. So thanks! The Hunters is next on my shopping list (if I can find a deal) as is Western Front Ace. Again, thanks for the new leads.
You will not be disappointed with any of those titles. WFA is magnificent. Thank you for watching!
Nice production value and list.
Thanks for watching!
Great list. I have the Stalingrad game and your list has given me ideas on what I consider next. One that is on my wish list, that I hope to get soon is War Story Occupied France.
You will enjoy Stalingrad. I will look into War Story.
If you like the Hunters you'll like Raiders of the Deep too. Same system, but set during ww1. Nice top 10!
Thanks for watching, I will have to look into that.
Great list of games!
Thank you for watching
Looks like a lot of David Thompson DVG games on your wishlist. LR is on mine as well.
Yeah, I really need to try a DVG game. Just need to do it I guess. Thank you for watching!
I have I, Napoleon & Western Front Ace. Both been on my table at least twice. Great fun. HARD to win!
They are both great games and yes.. very hard to win. Thank you for watching!
I took Pacific War 1942 with me camping last summer. It is a fun little solitaire game that passed the time when stuck in the tent during a downpour.
I always take a little game with me when I am out doing the camping thing. Thank you for watching
I really enjoy Mike Rinella’s Stalingrad and Manila games. He has an Aachen game out through ATO magazine using the same system which is really good too. I also need to get Global War to the table and just got White Dog’s Byzantine Empire game as well, so lot’s of good gaming to look forward to.
Thank you for watching! I love Rinella games. They are easy to get into and fun to play with many options and surprises.
Great list and video! I have many from your list and this video is making me take another look at Pacific Tide and Vive L'Empereur which I do not have yet. WW2 seems to be one of your favorite genres. Have you considered Comet from Hollandspiele? It is a solo game about getting downed Allied pilots back to Britain safely if you can. I can't find any playthroughs on this as of yet but it sounds interesting to me.
I have not tried that. I will look at it for sure
I love worker placement and war games and Halls of Hegra is one of the very few that ticks both boxes.
I need to give that a chance. Thank you for sharing
RAF is a great game and should be considered a classic.
RAF is one of my all-time favorites! - Thank you for watching!
great list
I appreciate that! Thank you for watching
Great vid!
Thanks!
@@Conflict_Boardgaming thanks for watching
The Hunters and all its spin offs are solid games. Compass Games has a similar one with World War I U-boats and an upcoming Sensuikan (Japanese for submarine). I recommend Picket Duty from Legion games too.
I love the Hunters. I will look into Pickett Duty. Thank you for watching!
Agreed. I had them all, but have only kept The Hunters & Silent Victory.
@@Conflict_Boardgamingyeah. The Hunted can be brutal. The Med... can't find anything to sink😥
Made 11 patrols each with Hunters n Silent Victory...before getting sunk😮
Following solitaire Stalingrad and Manila will be Berlin, 1945. The game was play tested from late 2023 to late 2024 and I'm just awaiting word from co-publisher Revolution Games on when to get final artwork started. Should be out just before or just after the beginning of summer 2025.
I am really looking forward to it. I love your games, so I am kind a fanboying over Berlin. Thanks for watching.
Enemy Action Karkhov is on my wish list. I have Merrells Marauders and played it a few times. Never won but started to figure it out towards the end d of its time on my table.
I have started to read the rules on EAK. Thank you for watching!
Nice Video
Thanks for the visit
Pacific Tide reminds me of the Navy movie where they go back in time
That is so true. Thank you for watching
*Great title Jerry*
Thank you for watching! I appreciate it
If you are looking for the successor to Avalon Hill's B-17 ,you want Target for Today from Legion. TheDVG game is different
I hear Taget For Today is good! - Thank you for watching!
Subbed.
I've got Corregidor, A.T. Ace, (Merrill's Marauders,) The Hunters, [YES waiting for British Tank Ace n Trench Raid], W.F.Ace.
Played them all. 👍 For all. Except M. Marauder's. It's okay.
I just do not like point to point games.
Love my hexes, areas can be very good.
I am also devoted to miniatures
... Not those huge big games, nope.
Small battles, like 25-200 figures.
On my tables: Storm of Steel from Compass, ROOT, Rebel Fury(reading rules).
Thank you so much!
Kevin White has a few nice solo war games
Thank you for watching
D-Day at whichever are solid games, but they are rules intensive.
Not for the timid.
I like crunchy games form time to time. I need to look deeper into these. Thank you for watching
*British Tank Ace???* Was there such a monster? 🤣🤣
That is too funny! Thank you for watching!
Ardennes Games are alot of fun
I am looking forward to them.
really good list... how are you doing with your collection?
It is getting better - haha
Global War 1939-45, Get this to your table, it's addicting and hard to beat...Also not on your list but also try Jeff Davis from Ben Madison
You are the 3rd person to mention Jeff Davis, so I had some credit at Noble Knight and just ordered it. Thanks for watching and for the recommendation.
My preorder list is small.
Compass: spitfire Ace eastfront World War II quad British tank Ace and Sensuikan IJN submarines.
Have not yet pre-ordered Compass Brief Border wars 2, Halls of Montezuma from fort circle games and Italy 43 and North Africa 40.
Games that are out that I have not bought yet. Hollandspiel Empire at Sunrise (Pacific WWI), White Dog games, the first jihad and Gift of the Nile, both State of Siege games.
I am really looking forward to BTA. I am also excited about Trench Raid. www.compassgames.com/product/trench-raid-solitaire-patrol-command-on-the-ww1-western-front-pay-later/ - Thank you for watching
5:37 I enjoyed imperial tide - because it’s POG Lite. I didn’t play with the bot yet.
I love the game. Thanks for watching
IMHO I found EAA to be more like work than a game. I Have American Tank Ace, Stalingrad AttV, and Manila tSS, all great games.
How so? Tell me your thoughts on EAA
I have global war. It's pretty good game.
1:25 the map is awesome on the Corregidor game
I like the map as well. It is a fun little game
Field Commander Rommel didn't intrigue or inspire me.
I am still on the fence with that game.
Kevin White has a few nice solo war games
what are some of the titles? Thank you for watching
