Dan that’s not true what you said, “No one’s here to watch dogs.” My husband Tom and I are having fun watch your dogs they are so adorable. Love to see them walking around with there chewy bones. Laying on their blankets together. Their adorable! Your furr babies are a HIT! Love them!! 😁😁😁😁😁❤❤❤❤
Yes Dan, your 151 cam was in L79 350 HP 327s, with 11-1 domed pistons, and it made the rearview mirror rattle so you couldn't see out of it haha! I'd keep that cam, but then, technology marches on... The timing gear set is all-steel which is special high perf. The usual gear was nylon and die-cast pot metal which would shed teeth. Those heads do have the big 2.02" intakes. I wonder if it's a small-journal steel crank 327 short block? Measure the stroke and see. Check casting or forging parting lines on crank. "010" on rear of block says 4" bore. It's also an earlier, good solid casting. You'll likely have to re-seat the valves as they may have lost their seal? Check that any valve springs that were compressed are not weak, after years of sitting compressed. Nice that it has tri-5 motor mounts. If it's overbored it might be up around 10:1 compression, more with shim gaskets. Those heads have 62cc chambers or smaller as they have no doubt been milled to clean up at least. They're 50 years old! You really don't have to have 4 bolt mains, but you can install splayed bolt caps at the friendly local machine shoppe. I hope you go back to Chevy orange! Good luck; really nice engine you have there, any which way you build it!!
I got a kick out of the dog and the "stogie". a year ago I found a collie cross out ice-fishing and brought it home because it appeared to be unclaimed. He LOVES his fake bones and wanders around with it in the "stogie" position a great deal.
It would have run great just the way is was. I would have checked all clearances and replaced all the gaskets and broke in the OLD cam and run that puppy for years. There was zero reason to pull it down.
Wow, what a great buy you got Dan with that car. It's good you now know exactly what you got, but that's one that would have likely been just fine to fire up and run. It definitely was all new and never run! Yeah take John and Cecil's advice and put it back together with the better cam and double roller timing set and put it in the 55 4 door for a GREAT sleeper!
You should be between 10:1 -10.5:1 compression. Deducted some for 2nd set of valve reliefs. Put it back together with steel shim head gaskets to gain some compression.
That doesn't happen to often, nice SBC score, good stuff, nice seeing the dogs hanging out with you guys. Years ago I used to have a couple dogs that hung out with me in the shop. One had a bad habit of carrying off my screw drivers while I wasn't paying attention and chew the handles(Snap On)
Dan A guy that has a four post lift would have a nice engine stand somewhere. It would make it nicer. Yes and roll your tool cart over to where you are working LOL
Don’t waste your money on a new cam . You will find the 151 cam to be a great street cam and a blast to put your foot into from time to time . Or stop light to stop light . I’m am old hot rodder and I’m telling you that cam works great on the street .
Great show keep up the amazing work be safe my friends God bless all faster safer Way to see more of the Dan go works of art rolling in a driveway near you
Hey Dan , if the cam you took out of the engine is equivalent to the 151 that they used in the hot 327 engine it will make a nice and very street able engine . That cam is a little hot for a 283 but works fine in a 327 or 350 engine . If you use it in a 283 it really doesn’t come into it’s own until you hit about 3000 rpm .
Us old guys may have less hair, wear glasses and maybe even hearing aids , this one definitely does not stink. Just sayin. Enjoyed the video! Nice engine. Great heads. I'd get rid of the plastic oil pump gear. Change the timing chain set to a double roller, but I would probably run that camshaft. Particularly if you are on a budget and struggling to make your mortgage payments. That's a pretty nice set up and will make pretty good power with a thump. Especially with fender well headers and Thrush mufflers. Just one opinion . In the end your call. Be happy and enjoy. Yours truly , the old but not smelly guy
from team chevelle It is a pretty darn good "old school" cam and works great in a 327 providing good mid- and top-range power and torque with a pleasantly lumpy idle.
The one thing that caught my eye were the double humps on a late model head. Then you said "492" I knew right then that you had a good little motor. Flat tops with 4 valve reliefs, screw in rocker suds with guide plates? There was no way this wasn't going to be a good motor. You took the heads off and I saw what we called back in the mid 70's as a "TRW" motor. The final clue was the "TP151" cam. BINGO! You have a SWEET little street motor. I sold countless "TRW kits" when I first started selling parts in '76. You'll love this motor with just a little bit more cam in it. The 4 door 55 is just begging to have it in it and cruising the back roads of Albert. Can't wait to see what car it lands in.
Nice heads. Double hump heads with bolt holes, Screw and studs and guide plates, a 555 lift cam would go good with those heads if springs can handle it
Years ago I bought one of the first set of dart Windsor heads and brought them onto the plane in California they xrayed them and didn’t even flinch when they went through. Bought packing tape and yellow rope and made handles for them. I carried on and my brother the other. Did I mention these were iron and flipping heavy. We put them and our luggage on a cart in Calgary and when we pushed it it was pulling the carpet up. 🤣😅
The 492 heads were the next gen camel humps. Same dimensions but had accessory holes. The old hot rod heads were the 461/461X heads. But you already know that since this was filmed days ago 😂 honestly a set of votecs would really wake that thing up into a good runner. Don’t beat me up guys lmao. I like the old ways of going to junkyards and salvaging. A decent book to have is the Chevrolet interchange book. Every part number that matches other part numbers. Pink rods, steel cranks and pre 86 blocks. Preferably 3970010 with 020 010 under the timing cover 😁
I bought someone a small v8 model engine to build. It's exactly like a real car engine, it's just miniature. That's excellent for learning how to build real engines! It runs on gas just like a real engine and everything, it's cool! 😊
The pistons look like old style TRW 10:1 compression should be raised letter inside by wrist pin .It's good to check it out and clean it up maybe rotate and wipe cly walls.wait a minute my info is from 70s am out dated and dont know anything anymore I can't even change my cars oil anymore with out help , almost 70 years old still content and remember my name ,guess doing ok .love your channel.
492’s came in various sizes, if it has screw in studs and guide plates they are 2.02/1.60 valve , can be straight plug or angle plug. Pressed in studs can be 1.94/1.50 350/300 horse head or 2.02/1.60 valve same as 350/350 horse head
When I worked at Chevrolet in the 70's and 80's, we sold bunches of the 3863151 cams. Just a mild hydraulic street cam that has a slightly lumpy idle. Did you check the deck height, pistons to deck (closest to zero is good)? You want about .035" from the top of the pistons to bottom of head surface, including the gasket thickness. The shorter the stroke, the more critical this becomes.
I remember in my 64 Impala i had an oil filter that size with a bolt up the middle of the housing. They were trying to be retro? Bad idea with an important system such as oil. Nice engine !! And i get the blue paper towels in the box and in a cabinet and give the wife plenty of white ones .
Back in the day 202 heads were the one to have you lucky shit. The valve covers you have over on the 305 ci are what belong to that motor LT-1 valve covers.
I used an Isky cam on a mopar 360 build, I was very impressed with the torque of the finished engine. I don't know that I'd automatically put new valve springs in it. I didn't get a good view of the springs, but they looked like they were already HiPerf springs. I'd test them, first. Incidentally, I believe LT1's came with pushrod guide plates. I think, there is a chance somebody could have used too long a bolt to attach oil pump, so make sure that is not the case, because it can distort the rear main bearing cap and cause a brg failure if they did. Otherwise, it looks like you scored a nice engine, minus the mouse droppings, of course.
The "Cheap Junk" 20 years ago was better than most of the "Good Stuff" available today.
Dan that’s not true what you said, “No one’s here to watch dogs.” My husband Tom and I are having fun watch your dogs they are so adorable. Love to see them walking around with there chewy bones. Laying on their blankets together. Their adorable! Your furr babies are a HIT! Love them!! 😁😁😁😁😁❤❤❤❤
I have 4 dogs of my own and love the way his dogs try so hard to spend time with him even when laying on bolts on a cold shop floor.
More DOGS, less good enough shabby work.
Yes Dan, your 151 cam was in L79 350 HP 327s, with 11-1 domed pistons, and it made the rearview mirror rattle so you couldn't see out of it haha! I'd keep that cam, but then, technology marches on... He is for sure doing the right thing by taring the motor down to make sure it's alright instead of believing it's good
I love how Danelle can find anything in two seconds on that cart piled with tools!!
I like when you have the dogs there with ya both.
God bless You Dani for sneezing. 🤧 I’m not religious or anything but I’m also not rude like the “talent” … lol. It’s a pet peeve of mine 🙃
The talent is not rude, he's a sasquatch, you can't bring a squatch to a dinner party, they don't fit in. Ya gotta groom you a simp for that, my dear.
Cry harder, cupcake
Love the puppies! Oh ya the rest of the video was good too!
Hey Chevy is always user friendly. Easy to work on. Which cool man. You got the best lifeline with John and Cecil.
Puppies! ❤ I love animals and they always make the most gooder videos, better! 😊
Once you said 492 heads, I knew you got goodie!!
400 hp
Is more than most folks can handle. Keep doing your thing.
F. The knuckle heads. Y'all make me smile. May God bless you and yours
Comp has done me right since 1982 you I still wonder about!! Bless you DanI
Dogs are cute. We are here for them 😂😂
I got a kick out of the dog and the "stogie". a year ago I found a collie cross out ice-fishing and brought it home because it appeared to be unclaimed.
He LOVES his fake bones and wanders around with it in the "stogie" position a great deal.
Small blocks and big dogs how could I go wrong! Thanks for a good time.
Right? 💯
That engine is clean! Glad you didnt get lied to about it!
It would have run great just the way is was. I would have checked all clearances and replaced all the gaskets and broke in the OLD cam and run that puppy for years. There was zero reason to pull it down.

Here we go again with another great video from DD speedshop
You should be between 10:1 -10.5:1 compression. Deducted some for 2nd set of valve reliefs. Put it back together with steel shim head gaskets to gain some compression.
Our puppy likes when you show your dogs in your videos. 😋
Love the dogs
Damn it man. As much as I watch your show you got to just love the old 5/8 9/16s and 1/2-in wrench motors and cars
I knew Dan would get jealous of the dogs at some point :)
Good Deal !!! I like the color of the motor, they call me Mellow Yellow, quite rightly !!!
Never been any click bait on this channel best channel on UA-cam
That doesn't happen to often, nice SBC score, good stuff, nice seeing the dogs hanging out with you guys. Years ago I used to have a couple dogs that hung out with me in the shop. One had a bad habit of carrying off my screw drivers while I wasn't paying attention and chew the handles(Snap On)
Dan, Daniel, my brother!!! ... Nice engine! Your buddy did you right! Great video! Signed - Cancer guy 😊
Yes. Yes I do love dogs
Hey Danielle, I'm an old man and I do not smell. Thank you! LOL.
Now that's funny right there.😂
I am too (Old man) , and I do smell !!! 😅😅😅
More Franklin and Steve content! 👍 FS Speedshop
Looks like you got a good motor on you hand there Dan. Looking forward to seeing it run. 👍😎✌️
Franklyn is such a smart dog he knew whear the pry bar was before anyone else lol 😅
a box is just a poor mans bin, thats some real wisdom right there
Very nice Dan and Dani looks like a good Motor
Dan A guy that has a four post lift would have a nice engine stand somewhere. It would make it nicer. Yes and roll your tool cart over to where you are working LOL
Roll the cart closer to where you are working!! Dani says😆😆
Don’t waste your money on a new cam . You will find the 151 cam to be a great street cam and a blast to put your foot into from time to time . Or stop light to stop light . I’m am old hot rodder and I’m telling you that cam works great on the street .

I'm so happy for you kids to have made it so far entertaining us old hill Billy hot rodders
That engine is mint, for sure, the DD Speed Shop surprise for the day. Really cool. Cheers!! 😎
Sit ubu sit!! good dog!!
Sedan powerplant.. thats my comment below letting you know what I think.. Dan there😉 that was a cool buy
Awesome find Dan. It's about time you get a good engine!
Could be built too be similar too the 375 HP 327 motors put factory in Camaro's , Corvette's and SS's back in the day !!! 😅
I vote the motor goes in the blue 4 door!! Budget engine build and a DD speed shop run stand.
Wow you are working on it ❤❤❤❤❤
GREAT deal that included that motor. Would love to see you rebuild that one. Would ALSO be cool to see you eventually get it on a DYNO.
Us old guys may have less hair, wear glasses and maybe even hearing aids , this one definitely does not stink. Just sayin. Enjoyed the video! Nice engine. Great heads. Another fantastic video Dan and Danni
from team chevelle It is a pretty darn good "old school" cam and works great in a 327 providing good mid- and top-range power and torque with a pleasantly lumpy idle.
That’s hilarious the dog even sneezed on the video, maybe there both allergic to you lol
Result on the Small block, easy freshen up and you have a sweet little engine.
Love the show. Tell Dan to keep influencing
I knew you idolized me and all, but to name your dog after me! I’m flattered
It's a good motor that you got there.Dan. Also I love your dogs there beautiful indeed. Keep up the great work you two. Okay.

hahahaha. trying to get the poor mans bin off the stairs has me rolling. nailed it!
Dan you got a good motor new Isky cam new cam bearings check heads n everything for your 57 2 door HT build
Those 492s are an over the counter hi performance head they are great castings
The L 79 was a factory 350 horse 327.
L79 That is one awesome camshaft the 151 292 duration 447 lift

Your the dog !!! A lucky dog!
My God is laying with his head on my chest, 115 pound fur baby, I love dialogs more then most people lol awesome video as always, happy holidays ☺️
Love the dogs.

Thanks for the video you 2.
I came here for the dogs 😂. It’s probably a TRW engine kit, good stuff, just throw a roller cam in it and down the road it goes
Never had a problem with a Competition Cams camshaft or lifters
BUT, haven't bought one in 40 years....
Can't beat a small block!!
That's a good cam
Looks cool so far man...

I would defiantly put that motor in the 4 door "55" after you do a Craigslist paint rebuild and put that 305 in the "57"!
I love. The surgical. Precise. Lay out. O f. The. . Parts on. Clean mats!
the 492 cleans up nice if you like porting cast heads
Marry Christmas in 2024 .from Gordon WALKER in Mt Morris Michigan
I’m highly disappointed you didn’t use that wildfire hoist as a engine lift
Heaven forbid anybody sneezes around you Dan! you should apologize to her!
151 cam is what I have in the ol 40. It's the 327 350 hp cam. It's got a decent lope to it.
Thats a sweet engine. Those 64cc closed chamber heads can brought to true potential if ported and 3/4 polished to match the intake and gaskets.
When I worked at Chevrolet in the 70's and 80's, we sold bunches of the 3863151 cams. Just a mild hydraulic street cam that has a slightly lumpy idle. Hello Dan n Dani
It’s an old comp cam so it’s good
You’re dogs are cool
I'm watching with my dog,Winter. My name is Peter, so there's four of us watching. John, Cecil, Peter, & Winter.
The 492 LT1 heads came with pushrod guide plates & 2.02 intake & 1.60 exhaust valves................
Dan and Danni you'll always had my views...
Hey Dan&Dannie
Gope you are doing well.
Take care😊
