The way Lena’s line “it makes me so sad that people like Kostas and Bridgett who have lost everything can still be open to love, when I who have lost nothing cannot” lives rent free in my brain
The way reading that just changed everything for me and makes me wanna watch this, absolutely feral babe x
Literally one of my favorite lines ever. The writers of this movie were not pulling their punches at all lol. It’s so good!
Yeahh i cry too actually ❤
I never understood the plot lines of how parents get surprisingly remarried and didn't tell the children. It's so...odd. I remember the sequel to this a bit more than the first.
It does happen to kids, my dad proposed to a woman when I was about the age of the girls and didn't tell me until two weeks later after she said no lol and i was living part time with him
It happens more than you'd think in real life, plenty of people have new partners their kids don't know about and then suddenly they get remarried
No parent should even entertain the idea of getting engaged without their child having the opportunity to form a relationship with their stepparent to be. It should never be a surprise to the child. Big no no!
JusticeforCarmen ! Her dad did not handle that situation well at all
america ferrera deserves a come back Carmens story line hurts so much because of how real it is for so many mixed hispanic kids who have divorced parents or parents who have split we always feel so broken because of the cultural devide that happens and sometimes it gets extreme
GUESS WHO’S IN THE BARBIE MOVIE!!
12:30 you are correct. In fact Kostas was a close family friend that they kept pushing on her, she went swimming in a lake, he got caught watching her, she flipped out, and they shunned him for it.
It only got resolved because she realized the lake was actually a spot HE frequented, and SHE was the one intruding.
You’re so right about the cast’s chemistry!! Even in real life, they are actually really good friends and I think they were planning to make some sisterhood 3.
This movie was EVERYTHING to me as a teenager. It was also such a star vehicle for the 2010s movie stars, especially Blake. I'm such a fan of Lena, haha, I credit my Greece obsession with her.
Yes! The two stores that got to me the most was Bailey having Leukemia and Carmen’s dad getting remarried and pretty much making her feel left out.
It just find it funny that they cast Alexis (who is a Latina, a white Latina but a Latina nonetheless) to play someone who was Greek
@sewer~rat according to google, her paternal grandfather is Argentinian, her father was raised in argentina from an ethnically dutch-german family and her mother is american but grew up in mexico. she grew up in a spanish speaking household as it’s the only culture her parents really knew and she didn’t speak english till she started school, so she considers herself Latina.
I agree that Bridget is GORGEOUS and I don't know how Lena's beauty was described in the books but Alexis looks straight from a PAINTING. Like you said, she looks effortlessly beautiful. I love your reactions and your emotion!!
Thank you 🥰
Yes I love her reactions so much! I'm always either laughing or crying 🤣❤
OMG Flash back to 17 yo me and my bestie on her couch, crying our eyes out eating ice cream and cookies. Did not expect our monthly movie night to turn to tears with this movie. Another big one was A walk to Remember!
A Walk to Remember KILLS ME
“I hate being an adult and looking at these movies so logically!” Haha, I felt that in my bones! 😂 There are so many movies that I LOVED as a teenager and now when I rewatch them I’m like … ooh no. 😵💫
I love that the 4 actresses are still friends to this day in real life.
I don’t know how else to say this without sounding pervy lol but I think Bridget is beautiful from a younger girl’s perspective whereas Lena is beautiful in an adult way. Like Bridget looks like a Barbie doll and the quintessential bright, shiny, popular girl that we all knew growing up so I think most of us at that teen age saw her as the most beautiful for that reason. But Lena has that classically, understated beauty that isn’t always appreciated when we’re younger but yeah looking at her as an adult and seeing just how effortlessly beautiful she is, is like a dream and a goal and I could totally see how everyone would be enamored with her natural beauty 😍
I totally get what you mean! I think you're pretty spot on
@@SophiaPhannn lol okay good, I couldn’t think of how to say it without sounding like I was creeping on teen girls haha it’s just my child eyes didn’t appreciate all forms of beauty back then lol
Exactly!!! I thought Bridget was gorgegous. Now that I'm a bit older (30) I see the beauty in Lena as well.
So accurate and spot on
I kind of give Bridget’s dad some flack. I respected that he tried, at least. Still needs work, but he wanted what was best for her.
Carmen’s dad did not try once. Made me so angry.
I wish they kept these sweet moments between Carmen and Paul because they did get along gradually and Paul was the nicest to her. I really wanted to see them more in the films.
And thinking about it, I feel bad for his other family because Carmen was sprung on them too, but to be fair, they should have known earlier. But still, carmen did not need to be treated like pre-cinderella. She did nothing to them. She just wanted her dad.
Carmen's and Paul's friendship in the books was one of my favorite things! I thought it was really sweet. Sucked that they didn't really develop it in the movies
Oh I did read the 5th book where they're adults so if ur wondering what happens
SPOILERS!!

Lena is just being an artist and she and Kostos are implied to reunite after growing as people, Carmen is a successful actress and breaks things off with her jerk fiancee, Bridget is still impulsive and has bad coping mechanisms, she like still ends up w/ Eric and with a baby on the way, and for the whole book Tibby is dead, she like passed away of a degenerative disease and left her boyfriend Brian with a toddler. The entire book is the remaining 3 dealing with their grief and trying to rationalize her death and what to do with their lives.
The only issues that I ever had with these movies/books is like almost every time the girls have sex something bad happens or they feel like super guilty and I always felt like that wasn’t a super great message to be sending. But it does feel pretty on par with the early 2000s.
Like it doesn’t necessarily feel like a commentary on younger girls and older guys (cuz it happens with multiple of their relationships), but that like if you’re a good girl you won’t have sex, if that makes sense. I could be wrong, it’s been forever since I’ve seen/read this story but that’s always the vibe that I got.
Oooh I don't think I noticed that when I was younger. I do see what you mean though--especially when I think of Tibby's and Brian's pregnancy scare 😭
I guess so. Or maybe they should not have written them to have sex.
I don’t think that’s the narrative they were trying to show. They were showing very similar and relatable situations, I can count so many girls I know who rushed having sex at a young age because they thought it would make them “happy” or the guy would like them. Bridget had no support and lack of father figure, and was navigating through the grief of losing her mother to suicide. I’m assuming she felt as though having sex would make her feel special, complete, all her troubles would go away etc but when you’re having sex for the wrong reasons, and at a not super mature age It’s not always the best idea.
As for Tibby, she didn’t feel guilty about having sex? The condom broke and it ruined the entire moment for her and stressed her out. She didn’t know how to address her feelings properly or how to handle the situation in general. Come on? I’m sure there are many girls out there that had a pregnancy scare after having sex for the first time etc. I think they showed relatable storyline’s.
In all honesty was sex necessary? Probably not, but they showed story lines so other girls could feel not so alone.
THIS MOVIE WAS EVERYTHING TO ME WHEN I WAS A EARLY TEENAGER! not gonna lie i still love this movie soooooo much, for sure didn't helped that i was/am obsessed with Blake Lively as well, makes me proud to be a fan of hers since The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and see how far she has come. Thank you for the reaction actually it's been a long time since the last time i've watched this movie and the nostalgia was reeeeal!
I KNOW. I love Blake Lively's movies. I haven't seen America Ferrera or Amber Tamblyn in much recently, but Alexis Bledel is SO GOOD in The Handmaid's Tale
@@SophiaPhannn I recommend you check out America in her sitcom, Superstore. She's great and absolutely hilarious in that series. Worth of try 👍
5:27 Book difference #2: them trying on the pants didn't happen in the store. One of them bought the pants and they tried them on in that girl's room.
When you said “one problem doesn’t minimize another” that made me think about the saying that says something like “a person can drown in 20 feet of water or 20 inches of water, trauma is trauma no matter how insignificant it may seem it can still kill you.”
my question is why so many of these love interest are grown men? kostas has no reason to be in uni, you can do the same exact story but he's the same age as her, he just goes to a boarding school faraway, it has no reason to have an age gap like at all. bridget at least I get why it's the case, because it needs to show that she's not coping with anything well and she's chasing this thing and it relates to her character but like, why was he even entertaining it? and why would the author even write that they might have a future together? if you need to make her sleep with an older man and want to have this story of her first time being bad and linked to a lot of trauma she doesn't wanna deal with, don't imply a future for them, cut the guy after, something idk
I think they did that because Bridget felt worse after finally sleeping with Eric. She didn’t feel “complete” and I think she didn’t get any proper closure either. Eric gave her that closure, he basically chased her down, how many situations can we say a guy would do that for a girl after sleeping with her? I think he was only hinting that she is wanted, he didn’t use her, and he would date her. But obviously they both knew that wouldn’t actually happen, he states where he will be going and she literally says “that’s not exactly near by”
they didn’t plan on staying in touch or at all for a future, he was just giving her closure in my opinion, and I think that helped Bridget during this situation.
I loved these books and the movies. I loved the girls friendships and how it wasn’t always perfect but they were there for each other. I also loved how they didn’t always do the right things but later learned from it.
Yesss they felt like actual teenagers
16:20 I’m a year late, but I just realized that visually that scene with Bailey wearing the pants and then not fitting is a representation of how she won’t live long enough to grow into older girls pants. That makes me so sad.
Bridget .she’s a runner she’s a TrackStar she gonna run away when it gets hard .
Underrated comment
8:58 Yoooo same I always empathize w/ Carmen the most Maybe bc she was the only brown girl in the cast But I always cared about her storylines the most and her emotions and feelings and how she reacted to stuff
If you've never read the final book, just know that I read it last year and it WRECKED me. Like, wrecked. W-reck-ed.
Omg I read a synopsis because I wasn't planning on reading it, but maybe I should 😳
@@SophiaPhannn Even knowing the premise I was shocked at parts of it.
ugh, that phonecall scene with carmen and her dad always get to me even after all these years, glad i'm not alone! also i wouldn't be mad at you watching the sequel 👀
33:09 i'm more concerned about Bailey's parents not being there when she dies
I agree with everything you said about this! I related most with Lena, but Carmen's story hits the hardest, Bridget's was the most difficult to watch, and Tibby's was so sad. I also absolutely love the chemistry of the actors and stories about friendship ARE SO GOOD. Despite all this, I've never liked this movie, I guess I always wanted the pants to play a bigger role rather than just seeming to string the stories together. But I really enjoyed your reaction!
Or even kids with one white parent and one POC parent who’s parents are divorced/split can relate to Carmen’s story too. For example, my parents are divorced and I have a white dad and an Indian mum and certain family members on both sides aren’t always the nicest lol.
I'm kind of dumbfounded because growing up I read the book and watched the movie, and loved them both, and yet I retained no memory of Bridget's mother dying by suicide. I must have repressed the memory?? Or maybe it was only ever subtly addressed and I naively never picked up on it?? I'm lightly shook tbh, it makes her story hit so much harder
I just realized Carmen's stepbrother is played by Derek from the the 1st cheetah girl movie🤣
I love your calling out of all the bullshit we thought was normal back then xD
The scene where Carmen calls her dad and tells him like it is makes me cry every time I watch this movie. My dad wasn’t in my life either and remarried now has another child and is more of a dad to her and his friends kids, hearing how his friends kids adore him just hurts when he wasn’t there for me most my life
god this movie is so good! all the actresses are babies but also look exactly the same lol. It is so cute that they are all still friends
20:50 Umbridge was played by Imedla Staunton. The actress here is Beverly Elliott who plays one of the best characters in one of my favorite shows ever Once Upon A Time! She played Granny! I got so excited seeing her in this movie!
I actually am rewatching OUAT rn, and when I looked up the cast, I was like ohhhhh she's granny!
@@SophiaPhannn That's awesome! Yeah she's also been in a couple other things I grew up on.
8:24
Goddddd A lot of Bridget's storylines were like so problematic looking back on them Why was she always paired w/ older men lmao
One, your hair looks great. Two, I LOVE YOU FOR REACTING TO THIS MOVIE. It's one of my comfort films. I will watch it anytime, any day, any where, love love love SotTP. ❤️
Hehe thank you 💖
i used to watch this all the time, and in the special features the showed they did take alexis to shoot in greece which is what inspired the second movie to take the other girls there too!
Ugh LUCKY
I watched this movie later in life and it still wrecked me. Yeah a lot of the time I didn't really like Tibby, she frustrated me but I loved her arch. I did love the story of all of them. I so hope you watch the sequel- tbh it didn't hit me the same way personally but I *DID* love the storyline with Bridget, how it follows up with the trauma of her moms depression and suicide.
Same! I watched both films for the first time this year. The scene between Bridget and her grandmother makes me tear up every time.
I'm not sure your love for this movie was just the nostalgia factor, because this is my very fist time watching this movie (yes, this edited version of the movie) and I'm not a huge fan of chickflix movies, but oh my god, I was crying and raging through this video along with you and I don't know how it managed to have that impact on me
Bridget's line reflecting on the aftermath of her sleeping with that guy actively made me bawl
Same with Carmen's telephone call to her father
I honestly love this movie so much though; it's one of those movies that deserve more praise
1:44 Book difference #1 (in the order i notice them) : Lena was the first one born.
Yeah I don't get why they had to change that detail lmao seems a bit useless
In the companion book, it's revealed Bailey wrote this whole letter of recommendation for Brian to get into this prestigious gaming program or something like that.
OMG I didn't remember Kostos was a lot older than Lena
I actually tried looking up how old kostos is supposed to be, but I couldn't find a clear answer!! So he could range from 18-22 😟
I like her lemon earrings, goes with starting off summer. This movie introduced me to who America Ferrera was (who I also know for being the voice of Astrid in "HTTYD"). Since my mom watched "Gilmore Girls," when I saw parts of this movie on TV, I was like, "Hey, that's Rory!"
Because the movie Summer Lovers spends so much time showing you around Santorini, I felt at home in the Santorini portions of this movie.
i've always thought lena to be the prettiest solely because of alexis bledel ❤️ she's such a classic beauty, looks straight out of a renaissance painting, and on top of that her eyes are so arresting. it's just not fair lol. and i also loved her look the most in the sequel, with the dark contact lenses and the makeup, she looked like an actual porcelain doll 😍😍
tbh alexis bledel is so gorgeous to me. shes the type of girl who is just effortlessly gorgeous without trying too much. so for her getting casted as lena is fitting for me (other than her not being greek lol)
also kostas is about to go to college, so supposedly he's 18. the girls in the first are 16. the coach is already in college, so probably 20 (he also says reach to him when bee's already 20). so kostas and lena are fine for me, i think its the casting directors fault for casting older men to play 18 and 20 years old lmao
I think Bee has untreated Bipolar/Adhd. Especially from her behavior and how ppl describe her self destructive behavior and not being able to sit down. Also they describe her mom having mental health issues and being committed when she was younger
The way i SCREAMED when u said Lena was miscast lol , Girl I wanted to be her and be with her . She's so fucking pretty !!
I WARMED UP TO HER 🕴
I forgot about this movie this was my childhooddd
I remember reading this book series and caring about Tibby the most 🥺
I loved reading the books when I was in middle school and high school. And I adore this movie so much. I also really want to go to Greece and I know that they actually were shooting this movie and the end of sequel in Greece. I love that the actors are friends in real life as well. I definitely related to Tibby and Carmen. The 5th book is really depressing and not as good as the original four. While the sequel isn't great since they combined the last 3 books I really love seeing all the actors in it.
Yeah I only really watch the sequel for the actresses! I hated that they shoved all 3 books into the movie though (mostly focusing on the last book)
@@SophiaPhannn yeah they could have easily made a movie for each book. I also watch the sequel for Jesse Williams (Leo) before he was on Grey's Anatomy.
I can't see Alexis Bledel without seeing Rory from Gilmore Girls haha
To think Blake was 17 when filming and probably like 16 when cast, she does not look like a teenager lol America looks more like a teenager than her
Blake Lively literally has not aged LOL
I had the great fortune of going to Greece when I was 16 and it is so beautiful! On our first day in Athens, my friends and I were walking in the market and this stray dog just kept following us for an hour. It was so cute! Wish I could share pics but a year after the trip I jumped into a pool with my phone in my pocket and was never able to retrieve the photos. A lesson was learned the HARD way that day.
I’ve been to Greece on a few occasions and I remember being so excited my first time cuz I grew up on this movie. Greece is actually gorgeous and if you ever do get to go I recommend going in the spring or during summer. It’s absolutely beautiful
Oh my gosh, I LOVE this movie and the books!! I was obsessed as a kid, I always wanted a sisterhood like them. I related most to Carmen's story because I have a dad like hers, where he was partially there in my life but then suddenly surprise! He got married! I have a stepmom now! And I was always excluded or made to feel that way. I cry every single time she calls her dad up and tell him how she really feels because I never got that catharsis (until YEARS later) but I feel it so hard and America acted it so, so well.
Book difference #5: Bridget's mom died when Bridget was 11, not older like in here
If you haven't seen them yet, you should check out A League of Their Own and/or Then and Now. Both fantastic movies!
I love this movie and the relationships of the girls! I was so excited to see you put this up, it feels like a deep cut from childhood, I haven’t seen anyone else do this movie. I think it does capture family problems in a realistic way. Also I LOVE your lemon earrings 😻 can you say where you got them??
Etsy!
How you are watching it as an adult is how I responded as a teen 😅 so I never had nostalgia for this movie due to always reacting to the age differences in the couples and stuff, etc. So it was really fun to see your responses and get some secondhand nostalgia and feel the magic in their friendship. 💜💙 I do love how they're there for each other always.
"Is it really them [Lena's grandparents] you're scared of, or is it something else?"
"Yeah, it's the age gap."
Gurl I died 💀 but those were also my thoughts with Bridgett and Lena's storylines
Blake Lively: exists
Me: my heart, my brain, my spirit, I cannot handle,
DOOOOD I STUMBLED UPON THIS MOVIE IN LIKE 2015 AND AS A KID, I LOVEd IT.
The concept was confusing when I was a kid tho?
this is the bond and variety the rinx live action deserved im so mad
Omg don't even mention that abomination, I was so disappointed by that live action 😭
I'm soooooooo late to this, but TSOTTP will always be one of my favourites 💖, and i also love that because of this movie all five actresses are best friends IRL 🥺😍 !!! .
I watched this movie so much when it came out! I was like 11/12, just going into middle school. Loved the books too. I feel like we don't talk about this movie enough. Love that you did this!
When I was younger I LOVED the movies and books. I really liked their sisterhood and wanted one too. Lena was my favorite, but I remember being annoyed with her changed story😂 I don’t even know how many times I read those books, but thanks to them it started my love off reading. I have recently been thinking of rereading them, but I have been afraid to read it through my adult eyes and ruin my fondness for them. Maybe this video is a sign that I should do it anyway.
Anyhow thanks for a lovely video😊
I often think about that too when it comes to revisiting old childhood faves because my adult mind is so much more judgmental now 😂
@@SophiaPhannn With age comes wisdom and a couple of ruined childhood faves🥲😂
"Yeah is the age gap bro" i almost choked on my water
I forgot Bradley Whitford was America Ferrara's dad in this movie lol
SAME LOL I was like huh why does he look familiar
absolutely loved this vid!!! but PLEASE do sisterhood of the travelling pants 2! would love to see ur commentary to it! ❤️
Bro I did NOT appreciate the deep emotions and plot lines when I saw this movie when I was younger. I remember it being a little... fluffier. It's got depth 🥺
10:08 he was just 1 year older than her on that movie 😆 but Blake's coach was 8 years older than her irl.
I loved the books as a kid. Read them multiple times! I didn’t know about the 5th book until a few years ago. Got around to reading it this year and I don’t recommend reading it unless you’re ready to have your heart ripped to pieces. I cried multiple times, both from happiness and sadness. It did provide closure to the series, so I recommend a read through at least once if you’re up for it!
Girl, you look so adorable during the sponsored portion of the video. Love the lollipop earrings
Thank you hehe 🥰
I've watched this movie probably like 50 times in my life. I don't think it's all that good but I adore it.
Thank you for this review! Its my childhood nostalgia. Had huge impact on my life. I love it now, I'll love it forever. We need to make this movie shine again!
There's a very big rumor that there's going to be a 3rd movie, based on Sisters Everlasting.
If it's true, get ready to cry.
I sure do love crying with Sophia
Sometimes we just gotta release 🥲
I’m going through a very hard time right now, and I just discovered your channel. Your videos are helping me stay calm and smile. Thank you 🧡 also you are so cute sooo ☺️
Heard of the title quite a few times during my life time. Haven't seen it, not sure if it would be up my alley, but like and support nonetheless
DAMN that sponsorship transition was CLEANNN
😗✌ I've always wanted to do a transition like that hehe
I'd never heard of that movie before this video, and I wish I did and watched it when I was a teen...
omg the anime comment hit me hard lmao. all my summers were me travelling to see granny and watch anime. Watching anime still comforts me even as an adult.
This is where I got my love for Blake and everyone else! Love love love these films!!! No one else I know shares this love for these!!! 😍🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥😍😍😘
P.S. this movie is the reason Santorini, Greece is the top of my travel list!
It's such a contrast having never watched this movie but having watched The handmaid's tale, and seeing Alexis Bledel and Bradley Whitford in this movie together
IKR LOL both are so amazing in The Handmaid's Tale
@@SophiaPhannn i love both their characters, i literally did the Leonardo DiCaprio meme when i saw them in this video 🤣
i watched this at a slumber party in late elementary school and when the scene of bridget making out with the coach dude on the beach happened the host girl's dad was like "haley what is this movie rated?" LOL
LOOOOL it was too spicy 😂
Idk, Sophia. when i was a youngster, i had a crush in Alexis Bledel because of Gilmore Girls. She's quite effortlessly pretty.
OMG I LOVED THESE BOOKS AS A KID I read them all!! :D
In the last book they insinuate that Lena and Kostas got married in the future
i LEGIT watched the first and second movie like a month ago. I was a huge fan of the books and the movies, please make a video of the second one, i feel like there is sooo much to talk about in that one
man I haven't even seen half these movies, watching cuz you're so dang pretty just nodding my head like "oh damn where these pants going? do they even have a passport? what pocket is it in"
when I was a kid and read these books/saw the first movie I related to Lena as the quiet, artsy girl. Got a bit older and by the time the second one came out I was a Tibby/Carmen, a bit fierier and into film. Now I'm old and going through a Situation that parallels the Lena/Kostos storyline a bit and realize I was just Lena, terrified to articulate any sort of emotion, all along.
They end up together in the last book I hear, perhaps I should read it lmao.
The fact this was released on my 31rst bday so I didn’t realize it was out til now and got to watch this as a surprise skipped over reaction. Exciting. From your biggest gay fan lol.
The fifth book where they're adults is highkey traumatizing.
I was 12 when my parents let me go on a school trip in another country (with chaperones of course) so I can't say 15 is too young.
My dad was a diplomat so we lived overseas.
I didn't know that there was a 5th book until you mentioned it in the video. How have I not known until now? 😭
sophia 🤝 me
wanting to go to greece bc of this movie
Can you do the second one 😂💕 just rewatched these and you did such a good job reacting lol
8:15 speaking of miscasts: Eric. He's part Mexican in the books!
