The reason why Hedder's original actor had to leave so early into production was drug issues, because drugs are a big no-no in the land of the rising Sun. In the original broadcast version of of the first few episodes which were exported, they kept his original performance until they could reshoot with the new actor. The original versions of episodes 1-3, 5, & 7 are lost to time now outside of the US broadcast recordings of those episodes.

Kenji Ushio was lucky that Toei nor Asahi TV didn't permanently ban him
He reappeared again in some of Toei Tokusatsu programs in 1982 up to 1985

Thanks for making this. I really enjoyed watching Battle Fever J. Hedder and Salome were great villains. Battle France and Battle Kenya managed to bring a lot of fun to the team with their personalities.

I hope they bring it over here, and they dub it at some point. The 1st ture Super Sentai show.
Before the year of 2022 we still confuse about their colour for the costum because they each have another colours were dominate not only in the line in their suite...
But in episode 47 on Don Brothers series we can watch that the monster or we call them hitotsuki representation of Battle Fever J have 5 colours on his suite...

This video was produced after rewatching the series, taking several notes on each episode, referencing multiple Japanese tokusatsu and Super Sentai books, and supplementing that with research across numerous websites & forums based out of Japan.
This info was then combining with primary knowledge of the period the series was produced in and the programs that led up to it. I've been watching these shows since the 1980s and am generally familiar with the pop culture and popular influences of the era.
I didn't reference anyone else's reviews or history-of videos when producing this episode.

My favorite Super Sentai from the 70s and so far one of my favorites from the 70s because I ended up pausing my marathon to watch One Piece so this number could increase. An interesting thing about this series is that it has one of Machiko Soga's first appearances, if I'm not mistaken she debuted in 5 Nor 3 Kumi Mahougumi. And I love Maria, she's one of my favorite Sentai characters and a great replacement for a character who didn't have much presence. And your ED is one of the best for me

Thanks for your question. Even light-hearted series can have dark moments or story arcs so I don't really have strong thoughts on what series should be labeled as such. Maybe a topic to consider for a future video though.

From metal hero series for example I heard the gloomy Metalder and Jiban
For me, Liveman takes the cake.
First episode alone they had a ball to brutally kill 2 people in front of the main character, The ENTIRE academia students in the spaceship gets killed with the Volt's invasion, and the Livemen's professer got killed in said invasion.
This was the first episode and the killcounts was so high.
