In my opinion, Schumann's Piano Concerto is one of the difficult Concerto to play because the general interpretation carries a risk of being mediocre, BUT NOT UCHIDA. In this live recording I hear the degree of involvement is deeply felt, there is such wonderful musicality in Uchida's playing that sings to our hearts... IT IS A GREAT PERFORMANCE, SHE IS UNDOUBTEDLY THE VERY OUTSTANDING PIANIST OF TODAY. BRAVO MAESTRO !!
Not many pianist plays like she does - absolutely beautiful! It moves me to tears! The orchestra is in sync which is hard to do because of the very fluid romantic phrasing. This is what I call a "great" performance that moves souls!
I don't know whether there is a more intelligent pianist than her. People say much about the genius of Horowitz, Argerich, Rubinstein.....for me this is another level, where the heart and the brain intertwine as equal partners, creating perfection.
The Wonderful Orchestra!!! The Wonderful Pianist!!! Warmth, color, light and flavor! there is much to savor and i savor every note. It is a memorable play of hints and flavors! Bravissimo!
beautiful resonance in the hall ad of course it's because madam Uchida plays so beautifully and the orchestra goes in a wonderful harmony with sir Rattle.
I saw Mitsuko Uchida in 2004 and Lang Lang this year with the Berliner Philharmoniker. The philharmonic is simply awesome. Great sound !! I even went to the rehearsals of Mitsuko Uchida she is a real genius
Robert Schumann is one of my favorite composers, and this is just outstanding!! I played Schumann's "Northern Song" today at an honors piano recital! He's great!=D
it is not a raincoat! it´s silk! and setnever, get away from here and let us enjoy with what pianists and fans love...MUsIc!!!! Ms. Uchida..God has a special sit for you on heaven.
Dame Uchida designs her own concert outfits, several of which are as eccentric and silly as the one you see here. To further comic effect, she is sometimes to be seen adjusting the fit of these outfits with safety pins, mere minutes before performing. But no matter. Once she has taken the stage, Dame Uchida produces some of the most magical and fascinating sounds to be heard on our planet, and nobody who lets these sounds entirely into their heart really gives a shit about what she is wearing.
I saw the Berliner with Mitsuko Ushida in Paris last night. It was a fantastic concert. What an orchestra and Mitsuko Ushida was superbe in Beethoven's 4th piano concerto
There's something very spiritual about Ms. Uchida's playing that maybe she herself could not phantom. She simply is being herself but such ego does not exist in the music ego at all. Quite a privilege to hear such talent!
Nowhere in life do I see more racism and misogyny impersonating elevated criticism as I do in these comment sections. Her facial expressions. Her rain coat. Her quintessential theatrics. If all you managed to gather from this illustrious 3-minute video clip was a list of meaningless, superficial critiques -none of which, by the way, concern her stellar musicianship-, then it is you who lacks the nuance, the sophistication, and the worthiness-- not her.
This is the most beautiful Schumann I have ever heard! She is the best and has the deepest understanding of the composer. We are blessed to have her performance! :--)
Never thought I would make a comment that was not positive about this truly great pianist who has given me so many wonderful music moments. Here she looks as if she is wearing a polythene wrap, so unbecoming. Who told her she looks great in this?
Your mind has spoken. "Igudesman and Joo" have done it, created something unique, and I hope that more of the younger generation can appreciate the beauty and complexity of classical music. It would sure be wonderful if people could compose music in this style but I am afraid that the environment nowadays with the new genres of music have made it almost impossible (I hope you can understand what i mean), but nonetheless classical music as you said can get a visual makeover for the "youngsters"
They both play the whole concerto. This is the 3rd movement of the previously mentioned concerto and i think you've seen Argerich play the 1st mvmnt. But i've seen more than one video of Argerich playing the 3rd mvmnt (same as this one) here on youtube.
wow Mitsuko Uchida!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 si oir a schumann es genial, oir su concierto para piano es un orgasmo seguro directo a mis favoritos
@robertosald We understand very well and we are working on this already. It is however, a long-term project as several legal issues need to be resolved.
I think she intentionally delayed to get extra reverb-like effect to add bravura to this triumphant moment. And maybe because the soft waltz rhythm follows next, so she just wanted to sound a bit more Viennese style, which usually adds extra delayed accent to waltz.
This is one of the finest performances of this piece I've heard.
これ以上のシューマンのコンチェルトは聴いた事がありません。何度聴いても涙が零れそうになります。
通して聴きたいんですけどねぇ。
The sound combination of the piano and orchesra in this piece is sublime!
Mitsuko is a genius pianist!! Bravo!!! Thank you so much for uploading!!!

ohhh... Uchida. I was lucky enough to see her perform this piece with the Lucern Festival Orchestra with Claudio Abbado conducting. Unforgettable!
Not many pianist plays like she does - absolutely beautiful! It moves me to tears!

The most exciting 3 minutes I've ever had!
Yes! Goose Bumps!!
The Wonderful Orchestra!!!
The Wonderful Pianist!!!
Warmth, color, light and flavor! there is much to savor and i savor every note. It is a memorable play of hints and flavors!
Bravissimo!
she is amazing!
I love how Uchida gets surprised with the chord at 2:40
to put a performance like this behind a paywall is criminal. it's too good to be so exclusively heard.
I'll bet if you ask, the musicians would say they appreciate the money they are paid for entertaining you, your highness.
She's one of the greatest, if not the greatest, pianist today. An incredible communicator.
My favorite!
beautiful resonance in the hall ad of course it's because madam Uchida plays so beautifully and the orchestra goes in a wonderful harmony with sir Rattle.
She is my favorite pianist shes is the queen of piano i love her style

Sublime!!! Thank you!!!
yeah madame Uchida is the most talented and her tecnique is so clear and sir simon is awesome
0:41......the little piano solo makes me travel to another dimension....it´s awesome!

Yes!! She is a true Artist!

the best version so far
She is GREAT!!!Berlin Phil. are the best!!
favoloso,che accenti che gioia ,grazie
Sheer beauty and elegance! Thank you!
I love that intro its brilliant. its not about what she wears by the way, its the music that is important.
There's something very spiritual about Ms. Uchida's playing that maybe she herself could not phantom. She simply is being herself but such ego does not exist in the music ego at all. Quite a privilege to hear such talent!
Mitsuko is beautiful, and so is her music!

Asriel Meemurr maybe telonamacintosh meant that if uchida were a caucasic man there would be less comments of this kind (sorry for my bad english)
Stupid ppls everywhere. Never cease to amaze u.
This is the most beautiful Schumann I have ever heard! She is the best and has the deepest understanding of the composer. We are blessed to have her performance! :--)
